Here is a FDC from 1999.. I have several FDCs in this Set and they are signed by the Marine Artist John Ford who designed the stamps..

uncadonego - Nice one. I had the pleasure of visiting the Star of India several years ago in San Diego. It's well worth a look if you're ever in that neighborhood.

L'Hirondelle I (the Swallow) was a 200-ton schooner built in 1885, and fitted out as a marine research vessel. It was owned by Albert I, Prince of Monaco (1848-1922), who was active in oceanographic studies. Here is an image of a stamp depicting l'Hirondelle I arriving in port, designed after a gouache by Monacan painter Louis Tinayre (1861-1942), engraved by Pierre Gandon, and issued by Monaco on May 3, 1977 as the low value in a nine-stamp set issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the publication of Prince Albert's book, "The Career of a Sailor," Scott No. 1050.

Esmeralda (BE-43) is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine training ship of the Chilean Navy, launched in 1953. She is currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Esmeralda, printed by lithogravure, and issued by Chile on August 4, 1972 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Arturo Prat Naval Training School, Scott No. 425.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting La Eolo (Aeolus), a three-masted full rigged ship, airmail stamp engraved and printed by Colombino Bros., Ltd., Montevideo, and issued by Uruguay on October 31, 1945, Scott No. C115, SG No. 851.

Here's another one I just located...whoever the yahoo was that canceled this FDC at the post office, he missed tying the 29P to the cover...but it's still a nice piece. Oh the incompetence!!
