I'm unable to make out the wording at the bottom of this stamp. I'm also having difficulty in finding out information about it. I suspect it may be a cinderella rather than an issued stamp, and I believe it to represent a Bosnian soldier. World wars or Balkan wars?

I would be obliged if anyone has any knowledge on it.

Hi Huanga,

This is Cinderella as suspected. Made for fundraising for Austrian soldiers in Bosnia during WWI. Not rare or valuable but nice one, and it represents Austrian soldier (but Bosnia was part of empire after all so you could say Bosnian soldier too).

The wording around the stamps says, "For our soldiers in Bosnia" and as Piltronix has stated, it looks like an Austrian soldier. Could be purchased and stuck on a letter much like Christmas seals I believe.

The lone word at bottom left looks like "Emela" which will be the stamp's designer.

The longer phrase at the bottom centre begins with the word "Gesellschaft" - that will be the details of the printers of the stamp.

Oh for younger eyes! Gesellschaft is German for "firm" or "company"...but it normally appears at the end of the word or phrase, not the beginning. Hmmm....

Thank you all, although I'm not sure what Timbres Hmmm.....means? Forged perhaps. That might give it a bit of interest. A forged cinderella of an Austrian soldier in Bosnia. Regretfully no, just the same problem I have. Eyes!

Sorry for my mysterious hmmm...no, I wasn't suggesting forged, just a "hmmm, that's strange." Gesellschaft goes at the end and is usually compounded, i.e: Die Kölnische Rückversicherungsgesellschaft... which means The Cologne Reinsurance Company. Maybe our eyes don't perceive a colon after the word gesellschaft on the stamp.
