Just a random question
Does anyone recognise which country this landscape photo is from ?

source: http://www.lemkesoft.com/content/154/ba ... tures.html

It is a sample photo from a picture editing program, but I am curious about the grass on the roof of the buildings (see red arrow).
What a great idea, I wonder if it would be possible to do that in Australia?

I hate mowing lawns on the ground enough as it is, without having to climb up onto a roof to do it.

Looks cool though.

Almost certainly Norway. The grass roofs are known as "torvtak" and symbolise a love of nature

Thankyou EnasYorl and Brummie !
I knew a stampboarder would know  , many thanks :D

I was thinking UK and that the thatched roofs may have sprouted or gone moldy

So they are meant to be grassed like that ? very interesting.
I wonder if it adds much weight to the roof ?

Yes Tassie, a bugger to mow, maybe just throw a sheep up there

Would most likely not survive in Australia due to our hotter climate, lack of water. Silly thought really, , no wonder no one does it here.
It does look great though.

I thought it looked Iceland...

The grass only works if your snowed in for 6 months of the year!
Extra insulation?

The fire risk in summer here would be a concern!

Fits the bill?

This is Tórshavn, capital of the Faroe Islands.

I can get the gutters on the house where I am to look like the amazon without even trying, storms blow the seeds of plants, weeds etc up into the gutters and the small amount of water in them does the rest !!!

(Sorry ! Muruk I could not resist it.)

Congratulations DCP23 on spotting the Torshavn Location > I was too slow to suggest it! I have earlier b/w photos of similar area but back in the 1950s.
