Thanks! Now I just need to remember the proper process:

1) scan in at a fairly high resolution (300dpi or higher) with dark background
2) use Editing software (like Picasa) to crop excess and make any changes; save as .jpg
3) upload via Photobucket having set Customize to get 800x600 size and save image in album
4) go to Stampboards forum, choose Post Reply and write whatever text
5) go back to Photobucket, choose the image and copy 'IMG code" (with ALT+C keys)
6) go back to my message and paste the IMG code (with ALT+V) add any other text if desired
7) Click 'PREVIEW' to make sure it looks the way I want
8 ) Never, ever delete or move an image from Photobucket that I've posted here
9 ) If all okay, then click 'SUBMIT'

Even though most of you know all of the above, it will be helpful for me to have this in this forum for future reference.

And if some of it is wrong, please correct me!

Thanks!
Margaret

First attempt at loading a stamp image. My computer has been down, so finally I get to practice.

Seeing the photo above from catnap makes me think that if I scan a whole stock book page there may not be a problem. What is the wisdom?

You can do a full page of a Hagner or stockbook as per this one single photo below, but remember no close detail can then be seen.

Good question. I believe at 800x600 the image would not be sharp. Its how much information(pixels) you have in your image.

This is 800x 600 ... sharp enough detail for you? :)

I got this stamp from the post office around 1985 and kept it because of the defect, anyone know if it is worth anything?

I have a picture, but cannot get it to be inserted. I am trying to determine the scott number of a cut-square that is either a U315 or something else somewhere between there and a U323. Can anyone clue me as to how to insert the picture? I click on the Img link, but all I get are the HTML codes.

Thanks for the compliment, not using photobucket, I opened an account specificaly for this, it wasn't immediately obvious what to do but thankfully it was not overly complicated. I have had a go at getting an avatar up but it has booted both of them. Will keep trying. Getting the right size is proving a problem :(

Yes, hi Brummie, it seems so doesn't it, is there an avatar fairy? as it wasn't put there by my hand? I have an enamel sign (obsolete now) of "licensed to sell stamps" or ""Ceadunuithe Chun Stampai Do Dhiol" from the ROI. It is an official one from An Post and looks fantastic. I would wish my avatar could be this. :)

As an assistant, deputy, substitute avatar fairy - put an image of your sign on this thread and it will magically become your avatar. :D

Magic, hmm, I believe in ghosts too...really!
Me thinks this image might be a tad too big, sorry.
As a footnote, I may be wrong regarding the sign being obsolete, they may now use stickers inside their windows saying the same thing.

Hi Brummie

I actually did before I posted anything else - it was my 'first' stop. However something obviously went horribly wrong in that it didn't work. I have redone the post - so all should be well now

Excellent results for images from a camera, rather than a scanner.

Two comments before you start posting to other threads:

First, many members will have the older type screens and your images would go beyond the right margin in those cases. Best to restrict the width to something similar to your 5 or 6 stamps.

Second, and along similar lines. Quite a few of our active members do not have broadband and are not likely to have it any time soon. This causes their download times to be rather lengthy. We try to assist them by keeping the number of images on any one post down to a low number. There is no fixed limit but for smaller images perhaps 6 is enough while for the full size pictures 2 or 3 is recommended.

Look forward to your posts.

Pat:

You can use the IMG code from your photobucket upload, rather than the direct link/email link and your image will automagically appear right in the thread. Also, read KevinHedley's tips a couple posts above and you will have far more success here. Give it another shot! :D

This is only the practice area. Which forum you use depends on the purpose of the thread. Click on the Stampboards logo at the top of the page and look at the fora headings. Possibilities include "Discuss ...", "Share ..., etc. There are also sell and swap threads but you need to read the rules for those and go through the qualification period.

I am sure that many members will be most interested in your collection.
