Peter - the idea is good but your target is way too high! And thanks for your Swiss member drive this month.

It has taken us 3.5 years to get to 7000.

Our figures are accurate and not faked.

We are comfy at how strong the growth is, and getting to 7500 members is a milestone I'll be looking forward to!

I guess we'd be over 20,000 already if we actived all those who signed up.

Most boards do not, and have a huge % of their "member base' as spammer accounts.

When was the last time anyone saw spam on this board?

Why not? As the Moderator Team take a few minutes checking out the IP and location of EVERY new member wanting to sign up.

Brummie does the bulk of it quietly beind the scenes, and members do not see the vast amount of behind the scenes work that goes on to keep this board about STAMPS - and not Viagra, Casinos, cheap cellphones and other scams?

This is the activity log below for less than the past 24 hours.

All the "deleted users' were folks who signed up, but were deleted by Mods before they even had a chance to post, as they did not pass our detailed checks.

We just zap them right up front.

I did see one spam message a few months ago.... but I think it disappeared before I had a chance to report it.

I am recruiting the FIRING SQUAD now.

I think 15000 by 31 December 2011 is a bit high. Especially given the present number. Nothing wrong with ambition!

Is their a graph anywhere of how the membership has grown over time. It would be interesting to see.

As a new member I'll try and get my friends to join. I suppose if we all got one new member each, then the 15000 would be achievable. But I'm guessing most existing members have already signed up their friends.

Having 7000 members will be another great milestone for Stampboards.

How long until we get 10,000 members I wonder?

It's also handy to know that ALL of the accounts here are actually real, and don't belong to spammers thanks to the volunteer Mod team.

Peter .. wish we were all as keen as you .. and thanks for bringing along several of your Swiss friends to join recently .. you have done your bit for sure!

Norm's figures outline the usual pattern .. 500 members each 100 days or so ... or roughly 5 legit new members each day.

I noticed this was part of Brummie's efforts earlier this week over 24 hours - 2 real members and 9 spammers deleted. About a 5 to 1 ratio.

And sadly, that seems fairly typical these days.

So if we just left spammer accounts intact, we would have 40,000 members, and all of you would be reading about as much spam as stamp info!



We get quite a few new members due to the generosity of existing members passing on these attractive glossy cards at clubs, and better still popping one in with each ebay/delcampe lot they mail out.

For anyone with regular ebay sales please contact me and I can mail you 100 or so cards you can enclose in your sendings - admin[at]stampboards.com

These are light, attractive, and add zero to your mail out costs, and VERY often gets a new member signing up with us.

I have new ones being printed now with updated info. So let me know if you can genuinely use these, and they will be mailed.

Peter, I have to agree with others that the target is too high. While we should all aim high in anything we do, the target must be achievable.

Your suggested method to quickly increase the figures is a good one but it needs to be coupled to a touch of reality.

While we have nearly 7,000 members at is a sad fact that 2,900 of them have never made a post and a further 2,300 have made less than ten posts. They are all real members, and they well be regular lurkers, but very few of them would bring in many (if any) new members.

Every now and then I do a quick survey of regular posters and the figure would now probably be somewhere between 200 and 250. If we relied on each of those members to bring four members in two months (as you have done) we might just reach 8,000 by the end of the year.

Personally I would have a problem. I have only introduced one new member in over four years and I simply don't know any one who is a potential member.

So if your very good idea is to become a goer why not aim for Glen's figure of 7,500 suggested above.

Regardless, best of luck and it is so good to see members keen to make the Board grow.

Stampboards member Alanchong is doing his bit negotiating for a Stampbords ad in the next Singapore Stamp Catalogue. Mr Tan of CS Philatelic Agency has been very supportive. This will be great publicity for the board when the 3rd ed of the catalogue comes out next year.

Expect lots of new members from the region!

7342 as I type this, so we will get pretty close to 7500 by NYE!

Close .. in the 7400s, but not quite to 7500.

Remember unlike some boards we only list GENUINE members. Each day Mods ban many spammer accounts that join up but we refuse to activate.

We run IP checks on EVERY applicant.

Often we ban 9 out of 10 new applicants, as we suspect they are spammers.

If we did NOT, we'd have over 50,000 'members'.

Our next big milestone is Birthday 5 on April 1, 2011
