For the 5th Year in a row, this will be back soon. The 2012 Australian Football League Tipping Contest. Six months of fun, well for you, not me, with hundreds of $ worth of great prizes. I have decided to move it from the Bored With Life forum to here this year, so that it will not be buried under counting threads.

We started off in year One with around 35 regular participants. Last year we had over 70. And the first prize winners from the first two years had NEVER SEEN A GAME OF AFL IN THEIR LIFE. So anyone can join in, have fun, and perhaps win $150.00 credit voucher from Glen, or the usually nice second and third prizes, or one of the several spot prizes offered throughout the season.

Last year, we got this:

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26243

Over 2,500 posts and 34,000 views,

Go Catters!

So stay tuned, only a couple of weeks to go, and I need to say Peter, sharpen your sword. I'm back.

Oh, and Go Catters again.

Norm

Thanks again to Norm for stepping forward to volunteer HUNDREDS of hours work co-ordinating and tallying each week's results - a huge effort given how many participants we have.

Delighted to once again offer the First Prize and hopefully our generous dealer members from last year are able to assist as well for 2012. :)

Glen

First Prize: A $150.00 Credit Voucher from Glen Stephens, which can be used to purchase anything from http://www.glenstephens.com/rarity.html that you wish.

Norm is being characteristically modest here...please avert your eyes, Norm...

The Stampboards AFL tipping competition has become an absolute institution over the past 5 years with participants from around the globe.

Many have never actually seen a game of Australian Football (sadly for them) however that hasn't reduced their success in tipping, indeed, it has probably been an advantage not to be slavishly devoted to one team!

As Glen has said HOURS of work from Norm to keep it humming along through thick and thin regardless of how his beloved Cats are faring (although they are usually doing fine it pains me to say.)

Three cheers for Norm and BRING IT ON!!

Norm, I must now absolutely insist that you remove the incorrect (and highly offensive to Hawthorn) reference to Geelong winning the 2012 flag! Not only is that Hawthorn's but, based on recent performances, Geelong may struggle to reach the top 4 full stop. :D

Unfortunately, for you, you will feel the full weight of Hawthorn supremacy very early this season (round 2, I believe), as will Collingwood (a grudge match and the chance for us to get our revenge). :D

Peter, even the slightly partisan Geelong Advertiser has Hawthorn looming as the main threat for this years Premiership.

P.S, I will remove 2012 if you do the same.

Seems like a reasonable compromise. I can add it back in October. :D

I'd be very surprised if Hawthorn & Geelong didn't play off in this year's Grand Final.

Hawthorn will be looking for redemption (don't worry Peter, they'll account for my magpies in rd 1) and Geelong have one roll of the dice left with that core group (Bartel, Stevie J, Chapman, Kelly, Enright, Corey, Hunt etc.)

I looked at the older Geelong players' ages yesterday and there's no reason why they can't do it again. One thing's for sure, if they do they'll be regarded as the greatest team since Norm Smith's 1950s/1960s Melbourne side.

My smokies would be Adelaide and, if they get on a roll, Melbourne. And hard to go past GWS for the spoon.

Should be very entertaining watching the friendly banter between Peter & Norm over the next 6 months !! :D

Cheers,

Robert

I don't know. I think we agree that Collingwood and Carlton are the devil's spawn, don't we?

Or is that simple agreement and not compromise? :D

Edit: This was responding to Norm a couple of posts above. :D

Melbourne? Well, we did only beat them by 78 points recently, I suppose.

I can't remember the last time Melbourne beat Hawthorn. I do remember the 1988 Grand Final though. :)

Do not underestimate the Swans this year, all you Victorians !! Having lighened the rest of the AFL teams load by beating the Cats at the Cattery last year and stopping the 4 year home hoodoo, they will be a better unit this year. We have arguably (and I am sure this will be argued by a few) the best above-head marker in the AFL in the form of young Sam Reid (he needs to bulk up a bit but is a fairly raw but amazingly talented kid) and now that he has a foil up front with some bigger forwards, the Swans forward set-up will be helped immeasurably. Goodes is still a freak and if Kieran Jack is fully fit again, watch out. He's a real midfield dynamo.

Swannies top four and, as Geelong found out towards the end of last year, they can beat anyone on their day.

Garn the Swannies !!

Round 8, 2006 136 to 61, 6 goals to Neitz

And yes, the 1988 Grand Final was a smashup - biggest of all time until 2007 if memory serves.

OK .. have spoken to both Kevin Morgan and Fletches1 and both have again generously offered to support this year's comp.

So for main prizes we have -

Confirmed Main Prizes:

First Prize: A $A150.00 Credit Voucher from Glen Stephens, which can be used to purchase anything from http://www.glenstephens.com/rarity.html that you wish.

Second Prize: A $A100 e-voucher for any of the 25,000 stamp items on fletches1 huge website - http://stampmall.com.au - good for members globally.

Third Prize: Kevin Morgan has confirmed he will again donate an annual "Stamp News" sub within Australia - value $A89.50. (An overseas winner only needs to pay the extra post cost.) Most generous, and thanks for assisting once again Kevin!

And random prizes will be offered along the entire round - if you wish to offer something for a round, or a special reason, please contact Norm.

I am very soon to email members with the monthly email so with any luck we can add a URL where folks can lodge their tips for round 1. :)

Glen

And here it is, a day early.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35505

I will lock this one now, the banter and tips can continue of the tipping thread. Locking this will reduce confusion.
