Outside my field of expertise and hope others can assist. 8)

Bought in an estate today, to a man in the next suburb here.

I'd assume they'd be worth a few $100 or so but that's only a rough guess. "The Iron Lady' seems to be held in Churchillian regard by many, so assume these are far better value than if signed by her predecessor James Callaghan .... James WHO??

The letter dated June 1983 re her emphatic 2nd victory in that month is most interesting.

Why a PM would be handwriting that to Mr Doyle in Sydney is unknown to me, but he appears to be known to her, to get a personal handwritten note such as that?

The "Prime Minister" letterhead is rather ironically on "Conqueror Bond" watermark paper.

Postmarked London July 1st, on "10 Downing Street" inscribed envelope, (also marked "Conqueror Bond") and all pieces are in good condition.

Whether the signed FDC and letter both from 1980 came with it, I have no idea - probably so, as the 46p franking indicates overweight mail, as post to oz was 31p for standard mail.

I remember seeing Maggie mentioned in a Paul Fraser email recently, and found this item offered on their website

http://store.paulfrasercollectibles.com/Margaret-Thatcher-Signature-p/pf212%283%29.htm

just an autograph on a namecard, for £350.00.

From what I know of autograph collecting, I think what you have would be appealing. Signed letters always do better than just a signature on a bit of paper, there's more 'connection' to the person.

Jeremy .. great guideline.

I agree a personal hand written letter on Prime Minister letterhead and a signed FDC are a great deal more collectible than a signed place-card.

Maggie seems hot!

She was a 'tagger'. It looks like she signed anything that didn't move.

You can have this baseball for $900 US.

Paul give me a baseball and a black sharpie pen, and I can run you up one of those in 3 minutes.

A page of handwriting on watermarked Prime Minster office letterhead is a bit tougher to create. 8)

Value? Depends on your politics. From 'burn it' to a million...

Very suprised with the figures you are quoting. She was prolific at signing and as far as I am aware you can pick up a signature, if you want one, for about £30. I recently bought one from a dealer for £25 and a signed Maggie and Dennis Christmas card for £15.

There are a lot of MT signed FDC'c about but not sure of the 1980 one.

Difficult to tell from your scan but my rule of thumb for royal signatures is that it is not addressed to an individual then it is most likely not a genuine signature but a printed letter for mass response to letters received after an event.

But I could be wrong.

Sorry, I cant help with the value :(

But on a technical note, it is a commemorative cover not a FDC as the official issue date for the stamp was 4th August 1980. Your cover has been cancelled 9th October.
