Hi!

I have not seen a cancel like this one before can anyone tell me where it's from or is it a cancel at all?

It is one of the many cork cancels used in St. Helena at that time,

There is a book that lists these and other St Helena postal markings: "St.Helena: The Postal, Instructional and Censor Markings 1815-2000" by Bernard James Mabbett. Unfortunately I don't have a copy.

From Edward Hibbert's book it is described as CNC. 9, Maltese cross in circle, in the section "first used between 1900 and 1902". Examples noted on cover dated December 1901 and a postcard to Java dated January 1902.

Behind the postmark is a great engraved stamp from Perkins, Bacon and Co.
