I wonder if these stamps have a name.

And, how many different denominations of these stamps are available?

Thanks

They are Germany (East Germany - DDR) Official stamps issued in and after 1954. They can come in A) Design in minute dots and B) Design in lines.

They come in the following values in Pfennig:

Dots: 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 25, 30, 40, 48, 50, 60, 70, 84.

Lines: 5, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 70.

Further to Norm;
They are 1954 East German Officials. About 20 colours and 2 types plus 2 print types.
Triangular compass cross bar points left and the other, right.
Printed in dots, printed in lines.

If the lines and dots are hard to tell apart, here's another way:

Dots = cross piece of dividers protrudes to left.

Lines = cross piece of dividers protrudes to right.

Most of these stamps are CTO for sale to collectors. Postally used are uncommon, and worth more than the CTO.

All of these look to be CTO.

That's not what my SG says Muruk.

Thanks to Norm, Greg, and Muruk.

Your posts were extremely informative.

I think I understand "dots" and "lines" here. :D The background seems to have either lines or dots.

I think I also understand Greg's identification of cross bar pointing to the left / right. :D

Thanks Norm for listing the different denominations. You have listed 27.

I am a third of the way there. I will look out for the rest.

My SG (2009 simplified) shows the lines/dots - left/right information.

It only lists a value for used, not mint.

It has a comment about the CTO for the 1956 numerals issue (not this one), but my experience is that the same applies to these.

Are you going to try to tell me the stamps shown here don't look like CTO to you? A neat quadrant cancel on every stamp. However, can't be absolutely certain if not on piece or cover. In any case, about £10 set value in these stamps, so not a critical issue.

I don't collect Germany, but have had some accumulations of these that I have onsold. Others will have greater knowledge than I. I'm just contributing to the discussion. :D

Sorry, I mean the dots and lines with the left and right bar.
My SG says that some values have both.

Just reading again and the 20pf Olive comes in both dots and lines.
My guess is that was the most popular one printed.

All the above look CTO to me.

The 48 pf and the 84 pf are the money ones (not shown above) if you find one.

True ... fromdownunder's list shows the denominations that exist in both types.

I believe there are also watermark variants, so anyone collecting these could build them into an intense study area.

The brand-new 2011 Michel-Spezial prices these in 4 formats; MUH, CTO, postally-used, and on-cover. In a very few cases, the CTO is worth more than the MUH stamp.

Some of the 1950s combination first day covers catalog up to €1000.

They start at Mi. #362, and there are hundreds and hundreds of varieties.

And here I thought they were just kid's kollection material.

Hundreds of varities, dots and lines, arrows pointing different ways...sounds like these are contenders for the "sets that will do your head in as a specialty" list. :? From what I've seen though, GeoV 1d Reds still take the cake. 8)

A correction to my post, the Officials start on page 552 in
the 2011 Michel, in their own section, "Dienstmarken."

Also, two valuable forgeries are known and priced, Mi. 8-9, in the "Propagandafälschungen" listings.

They were canceled in blocks of four. Stick any four in the OP together (Appropriately positioned, obviously) and you will have a perfect cancel.

They were canceled at the time of printing.

Nope, I have hundreds of them, mint (always genuine, because of the difference in value used, mint stamps are always genuine), CTO and postally used. None on cover. At least I don't think so.
