I have not had very good luck with "remarkable" curiosities found on the Internet. You have no doubt nearly forgotten by now the "bogus" boar, the kilometre-long supertanker, and other humbling embarrassments.

Undaunted, I will try again: photo of a crocodile shot in the Republic of Niger, Africa. Supposedly about 7 metres long.

Since I like fish and chicken, I would gladly give it a try. No barbequed ribs, no filets, apparently the tail is the delicacy when sliced into medallions across the grain, as the recipe insists.

We know what's for dinner tonight, and tomorrow night, and all next week, right on through next spring, provided you have a 7-metre freezer and a chain saw.

Doug, not impossible for Crocodiles. There are records of the odd 5 metre crocodile in Northern Australia. Slow growing, long lived, animals and with no natural predators (other than larger crocodiles). They were brought to the edge of extinction in Australia by the early 1960s (hunted for the skins) but have been protected for around 50 years. Time enough now for some of them to be getting very large indeed. :D

That 7 metre one is massive !!

I remember seeing a stuffed crock in the Darwin Museum "Sweetheart" that terrorised a community in the 70's.
I think it was around 5 metres or more.

Whilst again the people are well away from the animal, looking at the formation of the scutes I would believe it to be very large in size

Images in the attached thread regarding a different beast are more convincing.

Crocodiles can grow that large but is likely to be a different species.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... agers.html

The one in question is most likely a Nile Crocodile. The largest accurately measured male, shot near Mwanza, Tanzania, measured 6.45 m (21.2 ft) and weighed about 1,090 kg (2,400 lb).

Some information/comment here.

This site hasn't said it's a hoax.

I have eaten croc on two occasions (well, not a whole one just croc steaks). Both times they were cooked with oranges and tasted fantastic. It was in leo's spaghetti bar in St Kilda when they got into doing game dishes. It's also the only place where I have eaten Emu and Water Buffalo.

Their comment: "Probably true".

Just a query on the size and perspective.

The Croc is real, but only about 5 to 5.5m long. Perfectly normal for a large mature Croc.
But if you shot the world's biggest croc, then you should have taken a photo with a measuring tape or some easy to verfiy reference at least.

Why didn't they have someone sitting on it?

 Because they could not locate any available Pygmy.

It is a hell of a lot bigger than the one caught in a Suburb of Toronto this week.

The one in Toronto is a baby!(and an Ali not a Croc) Perhaps just 2-3 years old.
The one from Africa is perhaps 50 years old.
The top end of Australia would have plenty of 4-5m Croc's, pretty well standard size.
