Thanks for all the nominations and for all of the thanks. And especially thanks to Australia Post who have continued to provide real support and practical benefits to Stampboards members throughout the years that we have been functioning.

And of course to Glen for starting the whole thing.

And, uuummm, Go Catters. :D

I'm still new over here so my nominations are not as worthy like those of the veterans, but i will join Norm with his nomination. Canada stamper is keeping up the good work on an interesting not so common theme collection and also organizing games like this one where i won, connected to the theme he chose:

Well, this is still early for a May nomination but this month I would like to nominate mcgooley for, Some Advice for Inherited Collections. Although the thread has just begun it is already a very useful source of information for new collectors. In addition, it has the potential to become a recruiting instrument. That is, someone who inherits a collection might become interested in becoming a collector after reading the thread.
If possible, I would also like to add muruk to the nomination for providing the initial idea.

Thank you.

I'd like to nominate a person too.

I'd like to nominate myself, Katchem_ash for my advice on "Documenting your collections" http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=36821 which is great advice for new people in the hobby.

That is a great thread to gain insight into collecting.

Thanks for the nomination, but I would prefer the nomination for Muruk to stand instead. Here is what he wrote on the thread which raised a few people's blood pressure:
muruk wrote:
A suggestion.

It seems we lose a lot of potential collectors by our gruff rebuttals of early enquiries. Notwithstanding that some may be pure spongers, is it our place to judge at first contact? Do we know how things might turn out?

Some members on here have had to have pretty thick skins to stay on board.

Perhaps we could put together a short thread about the value of inherited collections, what's involved in assessing them, or perhaps how to continue them. Perhaps a suitable thread already exists.

Then we could adopt a protocol. Whoever first responds to such a poster could simply say: "First read this thread here <link>, then come back with any specific questions. :D "

No judgement, no rebuttal, no other remarks that could be misinterpreted (or not).

As I said, just a suggestion.

His idea for having a non-judgmental thread specifically aimed to inform non-collectors seemed very worthwhile. All I did was facilitate.

I'd like to nominate:

Leamphil
Why aren't you a member of your local Stamp Club ?
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36965

Stampboards has always encouraged stamp clubs to publicise themselves and their events via the Board. There is even a forum devoted to this topic.

This thread picks up on this and was initiated by a member wishing to revitalise his stamp club and has really shed light on the state of a whole range of clubs around the world.

Various member responses really demonstrates what works and what doesn't...anyone currently in a stamp club could get very good ideas on how to attract and keep new members.

My 2011 Year Book arrived in today's mail.

Thanks Glen, and thanks to those who nominated and voted for me, but particularly thanks to Australia Post for continuing to support Stampboards and collectors with their very generous Year Book donations.

Mcgooley for his initiative to start a thread on "Advice for Inherited Collections"

http://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=37042

Jolly good idea, and his posts on this thread are very much informative too (as are others members' posts too, I must admit, so I'm nominating the Mcgooley for the whole dang thing!)

Catweazle; please don't take this the wrong way.

Having already been honoured once by being awarded for "poster of the month"; I don't believe I have the right to take a second bite at the cherry.

Muruk's tip regarding what - for many people - is the main [or only] reason that punters turn up on SB has merit in and of itself. If Muruk had not suggested it, in the thread which raised so much spleen, I doubt very much that anyone would have taken much notice of it.

One and all, there are a vast number of threads which go un-noticed where people contribute to the overall knowledge of stamp collectors. We bookmark the sites members mention; we do - or do not - validate the research that members have so painstakingly undertaken

Norm... we are not going to be friends anymore if you go around insinuating that I'm of a gender that cannot understand the difference between a stamp and a postmark

Mcgooley, how did your gender reassignment turn out.

All well I hope.

You did go for the third gender, did you not?

As in: Male ... Female ... Convertible.

I'd like to nominate Kevin's "A Visual Catalogue - ALL Australian stamps, 1913 to 2012"
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8394&p=2780130#p2780130

This is a very useful resource and I have popped into it often to locate stamps relevant to my collecting interests.

I refer to this thread more often than my 'real life' catalogue.
If it has been nominated before I appologise for not paying attention

Big thankyou to you Kevin, your hard work has not gone un-noticed and I for one really appreciate the online cat you have compiled. :D

Muruk, from me too. It's an important thread: I hope it keeps going.

He is also nominated for his heartfelt if hopeless endeavour to maintain some standards in written expression.

Your thanks are accepted with gratitude, but ..... iomoon quite rightly won the award for this thread in 2009. See the list at the end of the first post on this thread.

He posted 63 pages, I am simply adding to that, and like others I use the thread quite often.

Actually there is no such rule.

I am pretty sure some folks have won more than once - testament to adding to the the Community data base here!

I am happy for good threads to win no matter who starts them. :)

Ah, manfaefife - I now understand what you mean!

Don't worry, mcgooley. You're right, many members here are worthy of praise, but not all get it.

Having said that, there are many, many threads and posts and members who have been helpful to me over the years (my, has time flown!) yet I have not voted for all of them. I often forget about this thread anyway, and sometimes if I remember it will submit votes for who, I think, stands out, in my opinion, and who has provided something which I can take away and find useful. That thread which I nominated, I felt, was a good idea. (If that makes sense, 'tis late and I'm off to bed...)

Admittedly, I could be said to be guilty of not checking first to see if the one I've nominated who already been nominated/won in the past. But then, as Glen said...

To a novice, like myself, I use "A Visual Catalogue-All Australian stamps" all the time. It is a very important thread to me. Thank you for it :D
I have a link to it on my desktop.

I just posted the following on http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=27114&p=2786643#p2786643

There have been some complimentary remarks lately about the Visual Catalogue - Australia thread and full credit to ewen s for suggesting it and to iomoon for doing most of the work. Since I have taken over there has been invaluable assistance from 1stStamp for which I am most grateful.

However the fact remains that quite a number of the older images are not of a satisfactory standard. Most of them are self-adhesives but occasionally there are gummed stamps like this one ... Image ... found here
http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8394&start=1750 .

Any members having images of mint stamps that would improve our 'list' are invited to post them to this thread so that I can edit the original post. There are hundreds of them so just keep your eyes open. The images should be at the Photobucket size of 320 x 240 and the result will be like this:

Great win, and apologies for the delay in announcing the winner - the Mod vote this month was the tightest I can recall for ages!

As secretary of our local club, I can only endorse the congratulations for this month's winner. Stamp clubs - on the ground - are getting fewer and farther apart, and a lot of knowledge is being lost to younger collectors.

If just a few people who read this thread decide to brave the elements (pun intended) and at least visit a local club just once, they might be surprised at the opportunities, and the scope, that is available.

I would like to congratulate Leamphil as well.

A Stamp Club is surely the best way to discuss stamps with like minded people and should be encouraged to all the younger generations!

In my case, it's nearly impossible to get to a meeting! The closest Stamp Club is just over an hour away through a kangaroo and wombat infested Whipstick Forest. I have no access to a car (hubby works nights!) and there are only 4 people in our district that I know of that collect stamps! Two collect only modern Australian, one collects only New Zealand and then there's me...who collects anything I can get my hands on !!!

Stamp Boards is the closest I have been to a Stamp Club in years!! And I love it!!

Maybe Stamp Boards should be nominated as the best on-line Stamp Club ever!

I know it's early... if I don't do it now, it will pass me by. So when you start again collecting nominations, I'd like to nominate Canada Stamper, for her very interesting and informative thread on organ and blood donation.

I for one, had no idea there was such a plethora of issues across so many countries, cultures, people groups, religions and secular societies. It is truly a need that is a non-respecter of persons.

I have been thoroughly enjoying the education her interesting thread has been providing and if you haven't been following it, you should! I don't know if she plans on putting together an exhibit, but it is certainly well on the way.

Never too early :!:

The more nominations, the harder the job for us as Moderators. But it's one of the most pleasurable jobs of the month selecting the "Best of the Best". :D

So nominate away, guys 'n' gals
