I listed these sold out "Black Caviar" stamp packs for sale here -

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=37997

All Australians know the legendary performance of the WORLD'S greatest racehorse for many decades.

It has smashed all records of the track here, and makes TV News every race.

Australia Post recently rush issued this Deluxe 2 sheet pack, and I am advised it sold out nationally in weeks.

LOTS of the sales went to Mom and Pop type retail buyers, and will never come back onto the stamp market.

Here is an image of an engraved special delivery stamp which I have tentatively identified as depicting Iris, who in Greek mythology is the winged personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, along with the team of four white, fire-breathing, winged horses which pulled the chariot of Helios (the personification of the Sun) across the sky. The horses were named, according to Eumelus of Corinth (a semi-legendary early Greek poet), as follows: "Eous; by him the sky is turned. Aethiops, as if faming [sic], parches the grain. These trace-horses are male. The female are yoke-bearers: Bronte, whom we call Thunder, and Sterope, whom we call Lightning." This stamp was issued by Spain in 1934, Scott No. E14, SG No. E17.

Bayard is a magical bay horse in the legends derived from the Old French chansons de geste ("songs of heroic deeds"), renowned for his spirit, his ability to understand human speech, and for possessing the supernatural ability to adjust his size to his riders. Here is an image of a semi-postal stamp depicting Bayard carrying Rinaldo and his three brothers ("the four sons of Aymon") all at the same time, printed by photogravure, and issued by Belgium on June 25, 1944, Scott No. B385.

I've not seen this one on the thread yet, Austria SG 1425 celebrating the 15th UPU congress, Vienna 1964 and showing a painting 'New horses for the mail coach' (1834) by Friedrich Gauermann (1807-1862). Designed by A. Pilch and engraved by R. Toth.

That is a beautiful stamp nethryk.

A more current postage stamp featuring a horse is this one issued by the Czech Republic on 6 June 2012. It shows St Wenceslas.

Image

Here is the information supplied by Czech Post:

The stamp portrays J.V. Myslbek´s monument of St. Wenceslas, symbol of the Czech statehood, with a tricolour in the background. St. Wenceslas (probably 907 - 28 September 935), a Czech prince and saint, is considered to be the main patron saint of the Czech country and a symbol of the Czech statehood. Wenceslas was brought up by his grandmother, Saint Ludmila, who raised him as a Christian at Budeč castle. As the ruler of the Bohemian Duchy he dealt with several raids led by the Saxon duke Henry the Fowler and was able to maintain the sovereignty of the duchy. He was the founder of a rotunda consecrated to St. Vitus at Prague Castle, which became the main church in the country. Wenceslas was murdered in Stará Boleslav, in the seat of his brother Boleslav who succeeded him as the Duke of Bohemia. Wenceslas was considered a martyr and a saint immediately after his death both for his piety (he grew vines and corn and made sacramental wine and bread by his own hands; gave alms to the poor; took care of slaves and prisoners; founded churches; dismantled gallows and brought down idols) and miracles after his death. He later became a symbol of the Czech statehood (e.g. in the late 11th century Vyšehrad Codex, on coins or Myslbek´s monument). In 1929, the country celebrated St. Wenceslas millenium by opening the finally finished St. Vitus cathedral in the presence of Czechoslovak President T.G. Masyryk and Prague Archbishop František Kordač.

During the naval Battle of Yashima (March 22, 1185) between the Taira clan and the Minamoto clan, the Taira placed a fan atop the mast of one of their ships, and dared the Minamoto to try to knock it off. In one of the most famous archery feats in all of Japanese history, a samurai named Nasu no Yoichi (c. 1169 - c. 1232) rode out into the sea on horseback, and did just that with a single shot. Here is an image of a stamp depicting this celebrated event, printed by lithography, and issued by Japan (Kagawa Prefecture) on February 19, 1991, Scott No. Z91.

If future bills come in the same envelope, I may have more. You can e-mail me if you want me to save one. It may not be several months though.
