o2ke is selling this Hungary stamp for a starting price of $3005.00 and BIN $4070.00...US$ that is! Not a bad looking stamp and it has the date, 1872, already printed on it for easy identification! (of course, not mentioning that it actually came out in 1972!) surely he'll get one right somewhere along the line!!! Item #120919539858.

Image

I'm unable to get the picture any larger...does he do that on purpose as well?

And someone tell me (in simple English please) how do you get those links here to go and view these lots?

Thanks, Anne

Hi Anne,

I think I will get rich by selling them to this guy at a bargain, he can have as many as he wants for only $1000 each.

Here is a 'rare' pair for only .48c on ebay...

Another hopeless chancer

Cheers

We can only wish Spartacus! :? If I thought that he would buy my spares at that kind of price, I would be more than willing!!!

I do think he's silly....but not quite that silly...he only needs one or two uniformed ebay " bunnies" to make a packet!

Now, on that note, I don't have a "connected" pair of that issue....have you got one for 48 cents?

Anne

Regarding the Hungary "1872" stamp, this was first mentioned on this thread back on February 10, where o2ke only wanted USD1,305 for it. Obviously it has gone up in value since then, or he is trying to recover the eBay fees he has ploughed into his junk.

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=379&start=2150

In his entire eBay history, he has sold one stamp and that was for 10 cents, sent post free. He really ought to get a day job.

With my various eBay dealings, I learned a long time ago that when researching items for sale you can not go by unsold, set priced items when determining value. Good lord has this thread proved that more than anything I have ever seen! I am also enjoying this thread, please keep it coming.

On a similar note, on the iPhone app you can set it to view only completed, SOLD, items. I can't figure this out on the website. I can view completed, but it lists everything, sold and unsold. How do you view ONLY sold items on the website?

It has been going for 5 years plus change. I can't see it stopping any time soon. As long as there is eBay, there will be dreamers.

"From stockrocket, we now have six of the little beggars for USD5,500 or BIN USD7,000

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/France-6-Blu ... 20c5b9327d

I won't repeat it but he uses o2ke's exact flowery description as quoted above above, word for word."

  you have to laugh don't you!!!

I emailed stockrocket and asked him about his price...was there something in a specialist catalogue that made these provincial coat of arms stamps so much more expensive than my 10 cent copies?

I see he's withdrawn the listing...and he never even emailed me back :(

Not necessarily.

It's a bit like the monkey proposition.

I saw a mathematical proof recently that if you sit an infinite number of monkeys at an infinte number of keyboards, NONE of them will ever type out a Shakespear play.

How right you are Muruk!

I don't know who was silly enough (and got paid accordingly!) to think that monkeys could do that!

They have several things against them from the start!

1: the monkeys can't speak English

2: they were never taught to read and write

3: and even if they did manage to type "Hi" it is more likely to be a fluke than a conscious thought

All animals can be taught to recognize words. A dog knows "sit" if it has been trained well enough. Our dog recognized CAR and would literally do back flips wanting to go for a ride...we got to the point of spelling it out...that only worked for a while until she learnt how to spell

Actually, when you think about it, our dog was probably smarter than o2ke!

Anne, true, but I bet after a ride in your car o2ke! could probably have it listed on eBay BIN $100,000 before you backed it into the garage...

and that is where the difference lies!

The dog doesn't speak, read or write English so therefore can't list a doggy ride on E-bay

but o2ke CAN!!!! must have been some primary school education along the way!! But who knows what grade???

If someone else had cut it off it would only have been worth 5¢. :D

Of course, the same seller has this beauty:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200766141306

It can be yours for the reasoable price of US$10000, or if you can't wait, why not buy it now for $20000?

Hutch, these are a dime a dozen. I have a spare but my price is not $10,000; not even $1,000..or even $100, or $10.

Give me your email address and I will send it to you for the special discount price of.....wait for it......nothing!!!!

Because that is what it is really worth..well almost..perhaps a cent or two. The addition of a recent Oz international stamp to my collection is worth more than this dog is worth.

I'm slightly confused as to why this seller has "Lost the Plot". If you read through his seller feedback he has sold stamps in the past at reasonable prices. Although one negative does allude to his mental status.

Your classis dreamer. You could offer him less than the asking £40,000 but if not you have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped him with the deposit on his house.

Quote:
old rare stamp collection not had these appraised but by looking on the net briefly I have found a lot of these stamps to be rare and unusual the price is negotiable although i would prefer it not to be as the money made on these will be the deposit for a house any interest on these i will gladly send you pictures if you send me your email address into my eBay account the stamps you see on these two pages are of various country's but they are not all seen as there is probably between 500 to 1000 stamps in the pages of these two books they will be sent recorded delivery or by a personal courier dependant on how you would like them to be sent as they are valuable.

any questions that you may have on these items do not hesitate to contact me

I'm tempted to bid on the one for $1 with free shipping just so he'll have to pay more to ship it to me than the final bid would be. But with my luck he'd just take the buck and not send anything.

Sorry I missed this juicy little item when it was live...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251063486832? ... 500wt_1202

Seems like the GB Oak tree from 1973 (Plant a tree in '73...I remember it well...) on a damaged FDC has gone up in value! I must return to my cast off box and see what I can find

This one will take some beating - ten bucks plus $2.50 postage (!) for something I could mass-produce in less than a minute each!

I've asked him to clarify the connection to Kiama - should be an interesting reply.

If you used red ink to cancel the stamp, maybe the value will increase similar to issues with maltese cancels.

Not necessarily.

It's a bit like the monkey proposition.

I saw a mathematical proof recently that if you sit an infinite number of monkeys at an infinte number of keyboards, NONE of them will ever type out a Shakespear play.

They could probably knock out a few of the Twilight series in about 10 minutes though.

It actually looks like a very bad photocopy of a forgery but it has then been printed onto slightly pink paper. Quite bizarre :?: Probably cost more to produce than he will ever make....

I guess it's a cut-out from an old stamp album.

Something similar to this one:

To me, it looks like:

It was stuck to an envelope. Someone has tried to close cut it, as charity workers do. The cutting was so close that it followed the perf outlines, but then lost concentration up the right hand side and did a single snip.

OR

They tried to cut around the outline of a picture of a stamp.

Super dreamers are few and far between, but automarkus166 has this rather peculiar affliction. For only USD 80,000 you too can be the proud owner of a handful of kids junk. He also wants USD 25 for postage. That's more than the stamps are worth! Three random scans below.

have been watching this one for quite a while (through at least 5 listings) and have decided it belongs on the Dreamers thread, although I have no idea what went on, except that somebody may have spilled a Banana Cocktail on it:

From seller bullion111, and for GBP 25,000 (never reduced from the original auction maybe a year ago)and described as below and attracted absolutely no interet:

relisted 21/12/11 by Bullion111 a snip at £50,000

and now available again at £50,000 Item number: 251087557442

I include this (now closed) item from perennial favourite o2ke mainly as another example as to how he can mangle English and concepts like no-one else on the planet. I don't need to add that it is a totally worthless stamp:

Excellent long stamp. Ideal stamp hobby gift for someone.

This is a genuine stamp not a reproduced forgeory. Like currency, it is assumed the reproduction of the collection hobby stamp is illegal. I have seen this in stores and featured well in hobby articals.

I also have a reference to this stamp in an informational encyclopedia for collectors. Many of my stamps are featured in a hobby reference encyclopedia.

Stamp collecting is a serious hobby kids love, adults mature. No hate complaints, collector notes are welcome.

I have just spent the better part of 2 wet days reading this whole thread, I have laughed so hard I have nearly exploded several times, bashed my hands on the desk and drive my better half to distraction with my giggling and laughing. Some of these people, are they for REAL!!!!!!!! O2ke and benhayworth take the cake, but all of these overpriced junk lots, are not only 1c junk stamps, but they are all in really bad condition, ripped and toned etc. I am so glad I don't have an ebay account as if its full of this rubbish. Who in the right mind would sell a album of junk stamps for $999100?.
But this Equatorial Guinea stamp is beyond tacky, the girl and Santa have nothing to do with this Spanish speaking Banana republic, at the time all of its stamps were dodgy fakes and this was another one, it was run by Francisco Macias Nguema Biyongo who was convinced he had so much magic power he tried to start the generators running after a power cut. It didn't work, he murdered all his opponents and buried foreign cash in the sand (After it was dug up after his deposure, it had rotted). The currency was Ekuele (I kid you not, made of up of 100 Bipwekele). In 1979 he was overthrown and the current President Teodoro Macias Obiang (A cronie of Francisco) came to power, he is still there, the country is quite rich due to oil, but thanks to mega corruption 99% of the population is at subsistence level. This stamp is in Guinean Pesetas, but about this time the Ekuele came in and after the mid 80s the CFA Franc became the currency (Known as the Franco el Africa Central y Occidente)
This stamp has nothing to do with Equatorial Guinea, it was printed in Europe and was designed for thematic collectors and packets, its sale to thematic collector only benefitted Macias Nguema with a few more Ekuele.
I love this thread and just keep it coming, because I have never laughed so hard in all my life.

Here are two sellers - one from Italy and another from India - who have quite a number of Malta covers, all of which are But it Now.

The first seller: ercolegloriauk from Milan, Italy.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=M ... legloriauk

He has quite a number of nice items that are worth their price (GB used in Malta, disinfected, etc.), a number of items are quite overpriced. An example being:

Image

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300440433119
BIN at £110

Yes, it is an attractive cover, but considering that I got this for $1.50, the price seems slightly high (and this one is a second day cover, possibly earliest use)...

Image

(an interesting thing is that both of there covers were sent by Rupert Forbes-Bentley - see viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37454#p2793151)

The second seller: wowhuge from Mumbai, India.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Stamps-/260/i ... alta&rt=nc

On the other hand, this seller has a lot of covers which are worth $1 in good condition, and in their condition (horribly toned and with punch holes), they are worth somewhere between zero and nothing.

An example:

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280844380799
BIN at US$90

An interesting thing is that the seller ships worldwide but excludes Canada (although only mentioned in the item description and not in eBay's "Postage and Payments" tab).

Once again o2ke has gone where no man has gone before. The price is stupid enough for a stamp that is probably in every Kiddies Kollection on the planet, but the description defies all rational thought.

An Original PRAGA pinky thumb.

Pinkys, or thumbs, become popular from world stamp events. At exhibitions, fans would lable stamps and begin distingushing real stamps from fake in the world.

The exact pinky read 1978 PRAGA. This stamp has been in a collection for around 28 years.

Price: USD 125 or BIN USD 140
