How to post images on Stampboards

If you have a scanned image on your computer or you want to post an image from the internet you can load them to Stampboards, via a free image storage program called Photobucket.

To set up a totally free account with Photobucket: Go to http://photobucket.com/

When you log in you will be taken to the Photobucket home page. Select the upload option.

Preset your upload size to ensure images can be loaded to Stampboards- select the 600 X 800 option:

Image

Image

Image

In the upload screen there are options for uploading from your computer or from the Internet:

Image

If you select the Internet upload, just cut and paste the image URL into the post box.
If you select drag/drop/browse select the image you want from the pictures saved to your own computer.
In either case, when the image is saved into Photobucket just double click and links will appear on the right of the screen- color=#000080] make sure you select the IMG code option[/color]

Image

The image is now in a format ready to load onto Stampboards. All you need to do is
copy and paste the IMG code link and paste it into your Stampboards post box:

Image

Hit the PREVIEW Button, and that shows you all is correct with your image and your post. If it is not, you can play around with it BEFORE hitting 'SUBMIT' after which, all members can see your post.

When all looks correct, hit Submit and your image will appear in the post.

***********************************

NB If you have multiple images to load to Stampboards, after you have used the upload function on Photobucket select the option to view your album.

Image

Then select the Organize option:

Image

Select the images you want to upload by clicking on first image and holding shift key while clicking on the last image.

Then scroll to the tool bar at the bottom of the page and select link

Click on the code in the IMG code box that pops up on the screen. You will automatically copy all the selected images and you can then paste them into the Stampboards post box.

Image

************************************************

For those who can't get their head around the new photobucket .....

There is an alternative which is very intuitive you might like to try.

www.IMGUR.com

For heavy users the PRO version ($25 pa) will be more useful. Unlimited images and other benefits.

For the FREE version images capped at 250 that you can edit, but if they are still being viewed here they will not drop off though you won't be able to access to edit after that threshold.

Access http://www.imgur.com

Set up a free account- you need to select 'Public' in your settings so your images can be seen

Image

You can upload from a webURL or an image from your own computer

Choose the auto resize option before you start - 800 X 500 - then all images you load will be that size max .. i.e. the size we use here

Image

Tick the images you want to upload then go to 'Edit images' option and select 'Generate image links'

then select BBC option and click 'Done'

Image

Your image codes will appear in a new box - ready to cut and paste into the Stampboards post box. You will choose of course the "BB CODE" link that starts with [url]

Image***********************************

NB If you have multiple images to load to Stampboards, after you have used the upload function on Photobucket select the option to view your album.

Image

Then select the Organize option:

Image

Select the images you want to upload by clicking on first image and holding shift key while clicking on the last image.

Then scroll to the tool bar at the bottom of the page and select link

Click on the code in the IMG code box that pops up on the screen. You will automatically copy all the selected images and you can then paste them into the Stampboards post box.

Image

***********************************

Please note - NEVER delete any images from your Photobucket account that you have once loaded here, or they will also be deleted from Stampboards - as look like this below!

Image

That is heavily frowned upon, as it obviously disrupts threads, and may lead to a member suspension.

***********************************

Also I urge ALL members to consider downloading the FREE Google PICASA program. Superb and simple to use, and lets you crop stamps, or parts of them from covers or rotate them etc - and then load that up in Photobucket.

http://picasa.google.com/download

Threads like this are GREAT because of the photos:

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1249&start=0

Various other technical tips are in the Tech forum at:

http://www.stampboards.com/viewforum.php?f=18

***********************************

And if you see an image from another website you want to post here, and know it will be OK with them, and not want to bother with photobucket, simply right click on that image, then left click on the "PROPERTIES" link you see and a box pops up.

Then mouse highlight the "address url' you see there, press CTRL and C buttons together. (This copies that url)

That url will look something like this off my webpage:

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s113 ... e/4-13.jpg

And it will nearly ALWAYS have the word .jpg (or .gif) at end as this one does.

Then go to the thread you want to paste photo into, click "POST REPLY" icon at lower left, and press the CTRL and V keys together (= paste") and in the reply box .. and you'll again see:

Image

Simply highlight that with your mouse, and press the "Add Photo" box along top.[b]

And our software then automatically adds little HTML tags like [ img] and [/img]

to either end - so then press "SUBMIT" - and VOILĂ€ .. you get to load great images like this on this site:

Glen

Yea Glen,

I actually like more photos - you also note that most of the better stuff I got from you was because of photo scans - saves me tons of trouble trying to figure out things and asking questions that can be easily said in a picture - they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Cheers

Hi Glen,

Just went to photobuckets like you instructed and did a test of the 50 USA bird and flower set on the favourite stamp forum. It works like a dream and I don't have to switch between websites like what I was doing before this. It is really cool.

Cheers

Glen,

Thanks for the tip - now that's a good idea  !!

Here's my own Penny Black (yes it has my initials - doesn't everyone's!) :

Image

Not a brilliant image (the original is better)

Now to upload some decent Papua/New Guinea (these will go into the "Best Stamp Images" thread) 8)

Glad it was not just me imagining that website was PERFECT for users of a board like this.

I really recommend ALL users try this out.

The more photos we have loaded on this board the more benefit it will be to ALL users!

I have the same question as you sandgroper. The uploading and all that is really nice but don't know how to downsize, make sharper, etc. Maybe just need to explore more.

No, as that is not a link to a thread on this webpage, and has nothing to do with the question about the KGV stamp image. :D

Spending 5 minutes of my own time I located what he was talking about:

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=229

Had sandgroper actually read the original reply to him on the thread in question that he did not offer here as a link, a minute in Picasa clearly solved the issue as he was advised.

No-one minds offering advice to members I am sure, but when it is given and apparently ignored it does make assistance that much tougher.

The original KGV scan was very crooked, with far too much black on either side.

http://picasa.google.com/download/thanks.html

Picasa is a free google program, and to repeat my original advice, to take THAT to photobucket gives us this:

Sorry for the messup admin.

I went back to Photobucket and found the menu to resize as well as rotate but I guess it does not allow you to shift images just a little but complete 90 degree turns.

Anyway please accept my apologies.

sandgroper -- it appears to be 4 or 5 posts up. The works 'thanks for that assistance' have apparently not hit your keyboard, but that's fine.

Have you got Picasa working yet? This thread is about assisting folks to load their scans here.

Just cut and paste the applicable link they give you. Geez.

It must be Ground Hog Day I am sure ... can anyone confirm that for me?

Cmon Glen that's not like you...I've been involved with computers since the ZX80 with 1k memory and I can't post an image...I have one on stampbucket ready (4 times!)..do I now have to go to picala to transfer it to thread??

Or I am I overlooking the simple...I envy the many who say 'yay' how good and easy...

QldCds - it must be Ground Hog Day. I am now convinced of it.

What is hard or difficult about the advice just given to doug above .. to cut and paste the link photobucket helpfully gives you .. for goodness sakes they even have added the [img] code links for you in there!!!!!!!!

I guess they could fly over a live person to do those 2 keyboard clicks for you folks ..... there's an idea .... drop them an email.

hey sandgroper

don't give up yet

once you have registered and uploaded the photo you want, just right click on the image and click copy, then get into the stampboard reply site that you want and right click paste.

You can then type a message above or below the image, the same as you can thru MS Word.

Hi Sandgroper..can I have some scans of the 4ds to check postmarks? email erjjmj@bigpond.com. What are you looking for in KGV?
In my case re photobucket, I have uploaded an image, it's in my album, copied the IMG, but my software does not allow 'paste'...checking whether my firewall is interfering...

QldCds - will have zero to do with software

Simply highlight the correct link on photobucket, click CTRL and c button at the same time, and to paste that here simply click CTRL and v buttons together. Takes 5 seconds.

This is simply copying and pasting but using keystrokes to do it. Worth writing those codes down, as I find them a huge time saver for dozens of daily uses.

To help out a bit, it is also possible to just link to the URL of the image, like so:
<img src="http://www.photobucket.com/THERESTOFTHELINK.jpeg">

Basically, you use <img src at the beginning of the link, then enclose the actual URL within " " and finish up with a >

Hope that helps!

I am 14 years old.

Quick let's catch and keep this one- at 14 - what a future. He's got 40 years at least until he becomes as senile as me. Who was talking about youth and stamps.

Well done!

Did you ask photobucket to size it as large size or thumbnail ... maybe that is why it is smaller?

Thumbnail size ... I noted other posters queried size of the image...learned from them to resize.

Don't collect post-KGV, but thought this one worth keeping...sort of ironic?

The normal size photobucket gives seem to work just fine. Thumbnail is REALLY small as you can see.

I took this from a massive 3 MEG file I made for webmaster to load on my own site, and as you can see the image is about right for these pages.

Actually it is even easier to just use the img button above the message body where you type it all in and put the link to the image in between!

Here's something I found that works and is pretty quick:

Highlight the "IMG CODE" details of the image in Photobucket (details turn grey), hold ctrl C then drag & drop into the post . 8)

I must chime in and say how great it is to see some many folks posting images that I can see from the code are done on photobucket.

Even our older and more basic computer skilled members have with a little work and patience, mastered the system - and that is fantastic.

http://photobucket.com

They have over 40 MILLION users and host three BILLION images.

That company are clearly going to be around for years I am sure, which is great for this board as all images posted today will I am sure still be there in 5 years time, and not lines and lines of :

Image

Where photos ONCE were posted, as I see on so many other boards where some free hosting company has gone bust, and the hosted images along with them!

IMPORTANT ... remember if you post a link from your photobucket account to this board and then LATER delete that Image from your account, the link to here will then be DEAD, and show as a dreaded red "X" as per photo above.

I did not realise that when deleting a few images today. So PLEASE do not delete images that you have posted anywhere here! Or the board will be populated with ugly red "X".

This board will stay as a long term stamp archive - please do NOT delete any image that you have at some time posted here.

Much of this is beyond me. However my Jabiru stamp was appearing in the body of my messages so hopefully it is now changed and will appear as my avator.

Here goes

Thanks Margo but no credit to me. I did not get back to have another try so someone did it for me. Will try again later.

I am trying to get my Magpie stamp up (from Photobucket), not Jabiru as previously mentioned. Although I succeeded before, it is now coming up with a message about an invalid address. Will try again later, probably tonight.

Cheers

KevinHedley,

Nice avatar, why not show the individual stamps on the stamp image, if you have not yet done so.

Cheers
Andrew

Bill you are posting the link to your album -

http://s208.photobucket.com/albums/bb157/billgreaves/

You need to cut and paste one of the 3 lower img links in that album and you are done. :)

Well done ... persistence pays.
:)
Now you need to add the scans to the applicable forums, with a note about the stamps.
