Bill you got to hit that "IMG" button for it to load!

And add it to the RELEVANT thread for the photo of course. Not here.

Stamper......you have....a scanner 8)

You really only need to scan at 300 dpi, that's the resolution on all my scans and it is really good enough.

Love those NZ stamp duty (got a few of them, including the different w/marks)

Thanks Lakatoi

I will alter it down to 300 dpi.

I am now trying your suggestion of Black Hagner in scan.

*sighs* at how long it has taken me to find the cropping facility.

I do not agree that for SINGLE stamps 300 is all we need. (for covers that are larger 300 does work) 600 gives a far larger image ... useful for when showing flaws etc. I even use 1200 a lot.

Stamper ... download the free google PICASA system . . that is what I use for EVERYTHING.

It took me less than one minute to crop and straighten your scan:

Glen, my wife has been scrapping (scrapbooking) for years and editing photos. She has followed my example of downloading PICASO and thinks Glen Stephens is wonderful.

So a special thanks from another hobby. :D :D

What you now have is:

All you need do is put the words you want in between the 2 ][ command sections and be sure you END it with [/quite] - you are missing the '/' right now as you can see

This can all be done automatically using the "QUOTE" button on each post.

Again, thanks Glen. All that happened was I also deleted the "/quote" when deleting the unwanted part of the message.

I would appreciate if someone here helped me view the whole post in the browser. Some posts can be viewed whole whilst some need scrolling using side keys. I tried reducing text size both in IE as well as Mozilla but had no success by this method. The post text size gets smaller but I still have to use side scroll keys!

Hi, Parvaiz,

The width of the post seems to be determined by the widest image on the thread. So if somebody has posted a LARGE picture of a stamp or cover, that will be the "default" for that thread.

As you said, reducing the text size will not reduce the width overall.

I am not aware of a solution to your problem, but another user might be able to help...

Gavin

Sandgroper,

Am no expert but my two sen worth: - you could save the photo in your pictures folder and then use photobuckets to upload.

I think once you have the image saved in your pictures folder, you can easily open it up on Photoshop to edit, modify, etc.

Hope that helps
Andrew

Hi Andrew, thanks but don't think that will work as Outlook Express files are .dbx files and you can't save them in another format. I guess there is something that can be done but I can't find it

Sandgroper,

Don't know if this will work but may be worth a try. I sometimes get stuff in e-mails that I want the images of. What I do is copy the e-mail contents on to a word document and then copy the image from the word document into the pictures file. Then upload the image into photobuckets.

Best of luck.
Andrew

Andrew you are a genius! First time I tried Explorer said it couldn't handle this type of Document but when I opened Word docs the file had gone across. Success. I can now do all sorts of new things with copies of stamps that people send me. Thanks

Or .. right click on the email (or web) image you see,and you want to keep. 'Save that' as "image1" or whatever.

Then go to photobucket and call up "image1" and voila ........ :D

Totally free and you can take images from your own computer and post them here in seconds, or take large images from another website, size them to this page and post them here etc.

A GODSEND for those using these boards I can tell ya!

I added 600 scans to my account in 2 months.

Seems like 99% of those on this board now use photobucket from what I can see looking around the boards. :D :D

A timely reminder.

This photobucket works like a CHARM here, and is used by most members.

Also consider downloading the FREE google PICASA program that lets you readily edit the images you scan.

If I can use it .. ANYONE can use it!!!

Thank you for the useful information on posting images from photobucket. I have tried and hopefully you will see my result in item named "Paranoia"

I will be asking for much more expert advise over the coming months.

Keep up the good work

Remember members can edit anything they post here for ONE HOUR.

After that, a moderator can assist.

But what you have in your photobucket account YOU can of course edit or invert or make smaller whenever you like and it will reflect in the posts here.

On photobucket you can quickly edit out the other links you never use, to just not appear so as you can't possibly get confised. (They for some reason give you 4 different types of link by default.)

I've edited mine to ONLY show:

Direct Link
IMG Code

The top one I use where making avatars for members, the lower link is what we use on these boards.

Most members here would get by just fine with just:

IMG Code

Need help to post an image pls. I've joined photobucket and dont know how to get an image from my disk drive to go there.

Have installed picassa, I've tried various times to move a file to photo bucket but its not happening!

If I cant do this how can I get an image from photobucket to this board?

Ralfnada,

If you already have photobucket, the next thing to do is:
1. Scan an image and save it as a jpeg file.
2. From photobucket, you click on one of those "browse" buttons.
3. After that hit the upload button.
4. Once the image is saved on photobuckets you will be able to view it.
5. Left click on the fourth tab below that image which has the words IMG Code in front of it.
6. Go to Stampboards and open a posting box.
7. Right click on the spot where you want to put the image and voila the image is there
(use the preview button to check that is coming out the way you want it).

Cheers

Andrew

Sorry, it's NOT 'about right' for this board.

Most of the right-hand stamp and all of its lower margin etc are off the screen to the right. Consequently it has made the frame too wide for the whole displayed page, which makes it necessary to scroll horizontally to read each and every message.

Images should be no larger than the normal width of the message FRAME, in pixels

Just my suggestion :)
(This page, of course, has an OK width, it is page 1 that is distorted.)

Ian true, but that is only when the MAX sixe of 1024 pixels is used.

Which is a trade off for clarity over convenience. :)

This kind of thing is fine:

Glen,

You're right, the 'roo is fine, but if the image is wider than the page size I'll probably not read the page. I want to read what's on the screen, not what's in the next room.

If I have a magazine I don't start reading a line and then turn over to read the rest of the line, then back to the start of the next, etc. Which is what happens here.

My friend Jim directed me to the discussion on "Great Britiain Philatelic Congress" - http://tinyurl.com/ys9exj

As I have written back to him, it's an interesting discussion but has some faults:

- the large images mean that the frame width is doubled, so more than half the text in ALL messages (even those without images) is off to the right of the screen;

- most of those large images are very poor and their large size is unnecessary: the image of the 1940 GB FDC has been touched up but those covers were never white, and such alterations are unnecessary; the South African covers are almost wide than the whole screen!;

- some people seem to be unaware that when you 'quote' you can edit the quote to avoid showing the same large images 3 times in one thread.

None of this is rocket science, it just needs a little discipline.

Now I know you can't control the quality of the images that people post, and you could spend a lot of time as moderator editing the image size, but you have assistants, I think. And no I don't want the job, I have several already :D

As I said to Jim, I don't have time for all that scrolling. If the page is too wide, I'll ignore it.

But I like the discussions, and you have a more cosmopolitan membership that some boards :)

Cheers, Ian
