I shouted myself a few nice stamps for my birthday.

These were posted (registered mail + extra insurance) on the 28th December from Aldgate, South Australia and have never arrived at Devonport, Tasmania. Australia Post is investigating.

Could fellow Stampboard members keep an eye out for these on Auction sites, and dealers please keep a lookout for this material being offered to them. Thanks for your help.

All the Vic Centenary stamps are p10½, and the 6d engraved kookas are all CTO with full gum.

Very distrinctive.

To be honest my guess they are still in transit or mis-sorted .. what did the AP on line tracking website tell you?

The registered letter number does not show up on AP's website. Their guess at this stage is a problem at the sorting centre in SA. Hoping you're right Glen, would love to report a happy ending to this.

Rod in 30 years dealing I do not think ONE Reg'd items in oz has been stolen or lost, so you'll be fine is my guess.

They do get mis-sorted and that takes weeks to unravel at times.

My wife had a chat to the postie the other day when he dropped off a registered article.

Back log cleared after the dispute, be buggered was his thoughts.

Australia Post was putting a positive spin on the dispute, but I think it had a severe effect. Letters that could take 4 days to the U.K. took 3 weeks plus. I was fielding a few enquiries from customers in the U.K. and Europe. Lucky they were regulars.

The family and I snuck out of Melbourne on the 20th November and now have a house in Devonport overlooking the city and Mersey river. (Well, it's a city by Tasmanian standards - population about 20,000).

Mr Boggler - great news re your Xmas card - I live in hope then.

Glen, having a relative who works in the insurance industry I do know that a few years ago, someone down here was mailing some laptops to MEL and they went 'missing' even though they were sent Reg'd.

So they were only Regd for the basic $100 but the insurance comany paid the rest. So Reg'd mail does actually go missing.

Also I will say on this thread that I lot I purchased off you months ago (which you mailed Reg'd) was signed for by my Mail Contractor and left on my front door step for three days whilst I was on holiday.

Not your fault at all, but does make you wonder why AP Contractors leave mail on doorsteps.

Three weeks ago I was expecting a registered letter from Sydney. I asked the sender for the registration number, but it did not show up on the tracking site. After I finally received it I checked on the site again but it was not listed. I asked A.P. about it and they basically said "These things happen. Sometimes they are not scanned/logged in"

So much for the electronic scanning/tracking system. At least my article arrived safely.
Heres hoping yours does.

Regards

I have never had a Registered letter go missing but like Tassie, I have had them left at my front door with no-one home and therefore obviously not signed for.

One sat there for over a day until I got home.

Not good considering the weather we get in Mount Gambier.

When I asked at the PO why it was left, I got a shrug of the shoulders and a muttering "contractors". :!:

Makes me think investing in a PO Box might be money well spent.

Cheers

Bill

FWIW I generally receive between 5 and 10 parcels per week either from overseas or via domestic postage and have to report (somewhat sadly) that I've NOW not received a single item (other than normal post) since the 15th of December... Australia Post tell me the strike talk which occurred just before Christmas would not have affected things however to my knowledge I have at least 15 items still in transit (at very least) ... Aussie Post say don't panic - so my best advice is PANIC !!!

I had one sent last year, to the wrong box number   , and it went back to the sender via the Sydney dead letter office, after some weeks delay.

Eventully sent ordinary mail     to the correct address, and arrived, but I paid for registered delivery, and the incorrect addressing was not done by me. Shellgrit happens.

And I believe that there is a collector with many fine items in the Solomon islands or somewhere, Ulopo :?: or some such, where a lot of mail appears to go to  :? 8)

But on the flipside Philly that packet I sent off to you before Xmas with the Cook mini sheet as part franking to your old address went there, and came back here, and went back to you - no issues!

Yes the on line tracking does not always work. HOWEVER none of the staff know where it was last tracked/bar coded so their job/contract is worth a lot more than whatever is inside if they nick it.

Anyone getting a lot of stamps that does NOT have a PO Box in oz is frankly insane .. sorry but you are.

Stamps and rain are not a good mix, neither are stamps and passers-by down your street.

I mailed a red/white/blue Regd satchel to UK Dec 17 with about $1000 of stuff inside.

Dealer there jumping up and down for weeks, and I told him to relax it will arrive.

Today he told me it just did in Sat post.

I have a post-office box that I use for a number of my stamp collecting or philatelic magazine deliveries. There is nothing worse than when they either drop off a registered package without requesting a signature ... or dropping off a notice card because they claimed nobody answered the door. :!:

I'm an original Taswegian, born under a pile of rubble at Queenstown. I was deported to Victoria 12 years ago and had to have the extra growth surgically removed to fit in over there.

Now you mention it, that same shoulder is getting rather itchy lately.

Rod, your mail will arrive. Although there have been delays to the Offshore Genetic Research Institute(Tasmania) due to the strike.

I was posted two covers from Denmark on 14th December,2009.
One arrived 22nd December,2009, and the other I feared lost. It arrived on Monday 18th January. A difference of nearly four weeks
for two items posted together.

Several years ago I bid on a lot of Sirmoor Rajas on ebay from an Australian dealer I had been buying furiously and forgot about it. It showed up nearly a year later I looked and the postmark date was correct who knows where it had been during that year no other marks.

I was in the Post Office today, and a woman came in to re-send, for the third time, a Christmas card to her cousin in Wyoming, NSW.

Twice, some bright spark had sent it to the other Wyoming. You know, the real one in the US. Sure enough, the back of the envelope had two receiving marks, one dated 22 December, the other 11 January

She was complaining. I suggested it was cheap postage. Fifty cents for round the world twice! Bargain.

The silly woman re-posted it! I told her she should just ring them and send them one in 11 months time.....

Wouldn't budge

I think you will receive your stamps.
I ordered two things on the same day (feebay, different stores)December 2nd last year.
Both items in Hong Kong..
One arrived fairly promptly (in time for xmas)the other just arrived the other day !
The second item was posted one day after the first one !

I'm beginning to think AP doesn't know where Tasmania is - maybe they sent them to Tanzania!

Isn't it a sparsely inhabited lump of rock off the south coast of Australia? :?

I thought we called that New Zealand!

As your in Devon(port) - they probably posted it to Devon UK! It'll come back between 2 slices of bread anyway! Unless it was picked up as "Spam"!

There is a rural suburb in Tasmania named Bagdad. A few years back a lady was sending a Xmas card to her relative who lived in Bagdad, Tasmania. The correct 50c Domestic rate stamp was attached.

Although she didn't put a postcode on the envelope, she did write 'Tasmania'.

Needless to say the card ended up in Bagdad, Iraq instead of Bagdad, Tasmania.

Then it came back to Tassie and eventually got delivered.

How do I know this? Well so little ever happens down here, that it made front page news on our newspaper.
