They certainly are a nice cinderella, popular theme too.

There's 4 m/sheets in the set, one for each year.

Sold a set last month on ebay

Hi Ashley

The RNZAF $5 mini-sheets contain four by $1.25 perforated stamps. I believe that many privatetly issued stamps are sanctioned by NZ Post for use to mail letters. Is this the case with these? If not, why would they be perforated as to remove them from the sheets would spoil their appearance.

Brian

Hi Brian,

Not sure about the postal validity of the stamps ex m/sheets.

Perhaps Warwick from ACS can let us know if he reads this, as the sheets are listed in his ACS New Zealand Stamp catalog.

This is fun.
At least I can count myself as a dedicated Philatelist. An hour and half trying to post an Avatar and now this.
I have even posted pictures at another phpbb Forum exactly the same as this and did it without any problem.

So please have patience with me while I try all possibilities.
Thanks

OK, here's another one of my faves.
I am trying to collect all British Stamp Exhibition Stamps and Souvenir Sheets, so if anyone has anything to exchange ,sell or whatever, I am interested. I have a few dupes too.

Just got the new catalogue on CD to revive my interest.

These stamps are a very interesting part of the collection.
Lots of varieties and all that.

Londonbus1,

Nice Wonderland fantasy cinderella's :!:

Here is some background for those interested:

Wonderland stamps were first created in 1965 by Gerald King of Great Britain who was frustrated over the British Post Office's refusal to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".

Over the years more and more Wonderland stamps were issued and a catalog of these stamps was published in June of 2000. The monetary system of Wonderland stamps is: 40 Winks = 1 Golden Slumber.

Two different Wonderland stamps depict the Mock Turtle from Carroll's book as follows:

Mock Turtle Stamp - Perforated stamp printed in black on white but numerous imperforate color essays exist as illustrated here. Denomination is Two Golden Slumbers.

Mock Turtle Mini-Sheet - Mini-sheet of three stamps, one of which depicts a mock turtle. The illustration of the turtle is different from the one on the stamp described above. Denomination of turtle stamp is 3 Winks.

Londonbus1 - I had just typed them into my next list at $A40 when I saw your Post, hence my interest! The RH blue stamp is superb MUH.

These are quite popular here as they are very similar to our 1914 KGV head series, and collectors here often like to have a few as a curio, that may have guided our designers! I imagine there are far less floating around oz than in the UK. :D

Darren,

Top Scan: "Rheinland und Ruhrgebiet in Rot": Rheinland and the Ruhr valley are heavily industrialised areas in Western Germany - as these designs show. "In Rot" = "In Red", which would imply to me that these were some kind of Socialist Propaganda - perhaps celebrating an election victory or extolling the locals to vote for the "Reds"?. They look Post-WW1, 1920s, which would fit with the Weimar Republic and a time of "revolution" in Germany. Nice set 8)

Middle Scan: The first 2 have a value in "h", which would be "Heller", hence Austria rather than Germany. Those and the 3rd are probably local/private delivery late C19th. The last one in this scan is Spanish or Spanish Colonies.

Bottom Scan: Nice Rocket Mail stamp 8). The pair are for "Humanitarian Relief" - probably Bavaria?

Hopefully some of our Cinderella experts can fill in the gaps...

Hi Gavin-h and DarrenK,
it means not Ruhrgebiet in red (rot). The Ruhrgebiet was in destitution (Not). The reason was the French occupation of the Ruhrgebiet (Ruhr Valley) in 1923, because Germany was a little bit behind with his reparations payments from the treaty of Versailles.

To the some other cinderellas: The "Deutscher Schul Verein" (Germany school association) was active in the former Kingdom of Austria (without Hungary). The Südmark were Kärnten (Carinthia) and the Steiermark (Styria) in Austria. The Schulverein was active there. Heemstede is a village in the Netherlands with 26.000 people.

Königin Luise was the Queen of Prussia / Preußen (1776-1810). In 1989 a definitive stamp in the series "Women of the German history" was devoted to her.

Hope, that was a little bit helpful.

Kai,

Thank you for that - now you have pointed it out, I have looked again, and I can see that I had mistaken the "N" for an "R", becuase of the "Gotische Schrift"!!!

It's good to have someone from Germany to help out with these things on the board.

Danke!

Gavin,

bitte sehr.

Yes it's sometimes not so easy with this block letters. But really difficult is the Gothic handwriting "Sütterlin". The most Germans can't read it today.

I can often read in letters with this handwriting only a few words, if the writer has a good handwriting!

Here an Olympex Cinderella:

Image

It's on the back of an Olympex 1956 Souvenir envelope with the 4d Olympia stamp and an Olympic Philatelic Exhibition Cancel (12 November 1956) to Germany. Was 4d the printed matter postage to Europe at this time?

I am working on it now, and typed them in for $A40 - you or others can order in advance if you want. ;)

The one list that changes once or twice a week is

Which has all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff on it!

Why do you smile about this? I don't feel happy about it.

Is it possible, that the letter was carried by mail? If the address was added later, then you'll better use a domestic address.

Hi Andrew,

thank you for your response. But on the top right I've see only "quote" and "edit", but no "x". If I'll edit my post I don't find a "X", too. :(

And I've tried it with two different browsers. Perhaps I've not the authority to delete my own posts???

For me it wasn't possible to place my own avatar, too. Although all was right (pixels, height and file size). At other boards I hadn't such problems.

Kai .. I'd guess 4d was the SURFACE mail rate to Europe, ... as well as domestic.

The "Printed Matter" note on face seems to indicate that.

Any thoughts on these two cinders - Are they worth much? I cannot seem to find out much at all on these.

Kindest regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas.

They are indeed GB. 1916 National Philatelic war Fund labels. Printed by Perkins Bacon.
Issued in sheetlets of 10.
Single stamps sell for 1.00-3.00GB Pounds depending on the colour and condition. Sheetlets are harder to find.

Here is a set of 10.

Yes these turn up a bit here in SYD - as one would likely expect. :) There is also another value IIRC.

Retail about $A20 a set, but seldom have gum AFAIK.

I forgot to post these after Lakatoi's last message.
Are these the Turtles you are referring to? Also added the Turtle stamp as in the sheet but in a different colour.
Enjoy:
