The first postal stationery appeared along with the first adhesive stamps back in 1840, and has been produced by most countries ever since. I imagine there must be thousands of examples out there, so post them up here!
You can post old ones, new ones, used/unused, postcards, envelopes, aerograms, UPU, anything prepaid....and I'm sure more that I've forgotten

To kick off, here is the first one from Britain. The 1d Mulready.



The design itself was, in effect, the stamp.

The Mulready's or "Mul-headed" as they were christened by the the press, proved to be very unpopular, and the postage stamp became the preferred method of using the penny-post. Here is the relacement QV stationery.

I was organising, for want of a better word, and came across this cover. It is mint, never used Not sure of the year though.

That looks like it could be a bit of Stampboards history, Brummie Excellent!

Can you tell me how old this cover is please?

My gawd Brummie .. have not seem those "007" Reply Paid envelopes for 20 years or so.

That's when I moved here.

They were a good idea - I mailed them out with all orders and lots of folks used them to order new things, as back in 1990 pre-internet days all my business was phone and mail. Mostly mail.

In those days in the 1980s, if my Postmaster gave me a bill for $100 for the month I could ask for a sheet of 100 x $1 new issue commems to be cancelled as a "receipt" and handed to me.

Pretty good deal as *I* chose the stamps to be used for the receipt. Well chosen, I could sell them for about face, so effectively the "Postage Paid" exercise cost me nothing all year.

That loophole closed late 80s, so I tossed them all away at that point.

I needed to make the black rubber stamp, as folks would write their name there, and the dopes at AP would deliver their letter back to them!

Then let me show you some Gwalior postal stationery cards. I'll start with George V, because a quick rummage in my discards box didn't turn up my Victorian and Edwardian ones A ¼ Anna (3 pies) card:



I think the earliest type of George V card. Followed by two versions of the same type. Postcard rate now ½ anna (6 pies):

and finally the postcard rate was increased to 9 pies (¾ anna)

And two from George VI. First, rate back to ½ anna



and lastly, with the new style State arms and uprated to 9 pies with a copy of Gwalior SG 129, the late locally overprinted 3 Pies definitive (old stock, of course, because India had been independent since 1947, and George VI was no longer Emperor of India)



The two cobras and the sun refer to the legend that the infant founder of the Gwalior State was protected from the sun by two cobras, which spread their hoods to protect the child.

And here are some from Nabha State. This time, I ran across an Edward VII card:

And George VI gets a bit more complicated. We start out with the 9 pies rate, and the old style overprint 'NABHA STATE' (used from a village post office, which is why the date in the cancellation is later than the next example)



which was changed to simply 'NABHA'



and the new economy stamp type



before the rate went back to 6 pies



These overprints on British Indian postal stationery can be, and are, highly specialized - there are many more variations than these. They bore me to dry sobs, but if anyone else is interested, this sort of material is cheap and readily available. Don't believe auctions which ask dollars each for these. Expect to pay cents for the common types, and perhaps dollars for the rarities.

A nice set I picked up a while ago.

This one is from Cape of Good Hope, overprinted British Bechuanaland, and posted from Mafeking, site of the famous siege.



It has a very interesting note written on it.....I wonder what they were talking about?

Almost put this in the "nice covers" section but alas its only the front of the envelope and I fear I may have been rejected in that section, but to me this has a little bit of charm about it. India to Malaya 1955

I think that this cover could be shown in many threads, Man From The Kingdom "Nice Covers", "India post", "Registered Covers", "Uprated Items".......

Postal Stationery card from my town Kirkcaldy to Birmingham Joint Stock Bank in 1884, with the distinctive 210 postmark for Kirkcaldy. Its on a very thick card around 3 times the thickness of most of the cards used at that time.

Tongan postal stationery, this time, showing 2 of the sepia postcards released by the post office in the early 20th century..



And the reverse (but I have no idea what I have done to reduce the image size!!):

Russian Post Office in China 2 kop green wrapper, 444mm x 176 mm, with an additional 8 different stamps totalling 56 kop. Used registered from Shanghai, 18 May 1907, to Grefeld in Germany. Stamps and wrapper overprinted with "Kitaj" (China) in Cyrillic characters.

1981 PRC China World Cup Volleyball Champ with commemorative cancellation.
Oil Refinery Machinery Design Section of the Petroleum Industrial Department Official Seal on reverse. Chinese character written read as "Wish (you) A Happy New Year".

Appreciate if someone tell me what "19" "4" "75" meant. Those numerals were printed on the penny pink (at the bottom of the oval).
