I don't know about anyone else here, but I believe in ghosts and orbs.

I have taken quite a few pictures with orbs in them. I know that a lot of people say that they are only dust spots, or humidity in the air, but I don't believe that is always the case.
Take a look at these photos.

We were in a church about 2am when I took these photos. The only light came from two tiny flashlights. NO that isn't a light on the wall. My camera is not that good, so I really doubt that the flash could have been that bright on a speck of dust either.

Oh, if you are wondering why we were in a church that late, we weren't breaking in. hehehe!! I volunteer with a group, called, "Out of the Cold". The church provides, hot suppers and a place to sleep, and then breakfast for anyone who is homeless.

This was my first night to help, and it felt really good. Our group was there from 11pm until 5pm, including the extra hour setting back the clock.

Mmm...

Two flashlights and optics in the lenses (perhaps some sort of orb link there :!: )

I have seen a ghost one night while staying at a native Fijian village. I had woken up at about 3:00am, couldn't sleep in the heat and humidity so I went to the window (well wall opening really, they don't have glass).

Outside the hut was a ghostly outline of a native who turned towards me. He looked at me, smiled, then his image disappeared like mist in the wind.

Naturally, I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night and first thing in the morning I told the story to the village elder. I described the image to him and he knew exactly who it was -a village chief that had died about 30 years beforehand.

Now I'm a believer :!:

On the other side of the coin I have seen in two separate events separated by about 10 years, what I am sure were UFO's in country NSW (and no, I wasn't p*ssed at the time and they weren't weather balloons).

But then this thread isn't about those sort of things 8)

Perfectly Honest I do not know one way or the other and I do not want to meet one to find out for sure but I believe that it is a good possibility. :)

I've never seen a ghost. Until I see one, I don't believe in them. I suspect I will never see one, as they don't exist.

Nor orbs.

If you have never seen a ghost, or an orb, then how do you know that they don't exist?
You can't see the air that you are breathing, but it's there.

It can be about UFO's too if you want it to be. I haven't seen one yet, but I am sure that they are out there.

This is one incident that has defied any logical explanation. I remember it was on the 2nd of November, all Souls Day. I was in Singapore on the 1st and 2nd of November (can't recall the year off hand).

When I came back (to Malaysia) the next day, 3rd of November, and entered the office, I (being the usual busybody me) checked on the leave taken book and saw that only one day was recorded, although I had applied for these two days.

When I asked the clerk why this was so, she said "You were back yesterday." And I said, "No, I was in Singapore and could have produced the passport (which was cancelled by the Singapore immigration office) (have a newer passport but could still have this old one around) to prove it." She said "4 of us saw you in the same clothes you are wearing now."

I thought they were playing a joke until they said they saw me coming into the office, looking at the pigeon hole (for mail), put something on the counter but did not say a word at all (something very unlike me). They were far back behind the counter and probably in a room (I cannot remember details as I am in a new office) which had a large glass wall that they could see through.

The other thing was that I don't wear the same clothes twice in a row - the shirts are sent for washing at the end of the day.

So is this a ghost? You make your own conclusions.

Have I seen a ghost? Yes, I think I have, in the same office. Saw a colleague, from a few yards, walking to the lift and I wished her but she seemed to be able to just move past a door and when I got to the lift I realised that no body had gone into it.

Could this be the same ghost that posed as me when I was in another country?

Cheers
Andrew

Some folks I know think the same thing about those who fervently believe in GOD .. in all these various guises of that totally non provable belief that he/she/it exists. ;)

I have never seen a ghost, an orb, a "flying saucer" (the term UFO is utterly meaningless) but the person who is making the positive statement is the person who needs to provide the evidence.

I will make the following positive statement:

"I have an invisible pink dragon that lives in my garage"

Since you have not, not seen it, according to what you said here, you must accept that my invisible pink dragon exists.

Do you agree that there is an invisible pink dragon in my garage? If so, why? if not, why?

As far as the air we breathe, its physical existance plus its input and output as far as our lungs go can be scientifically measured with instruments. Ghosts and orbs cannot be measured at all.

So it is a poor analogy.

One other point while I am here. I have seen photographs of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Ghosts, Ectoplasm, people levitating, even the so-called Fatima event. None of these have ever been independantly supported as being true with legitimate independant evidence.

Tony,

Malaysian forklore has such a ghost who impersonates people - I believe they call it a Hantu Raja (King Ghost/Devil). Anyway, that older office had a reputation for spirits and my room was located way at the back, and most of the staff would not venture past that point in the later part of the evenings.

Cheers

Come on guys, this was just suppossed to be a bit of fun. Of course I know you can measure air, but you still can't, "SEE" it. I didn't mention God, because that could offend someone.
I have never personally seen a ghost either. The "orbs" in my photos, I will believe are just that, but only because I want to believe it. I know that there could be a reasonable explaination for them.
I also know with so many millions of people around the world who have claimed to have seen ghosts, sprirts, orbs, flying saucers and whatever, there there must be something to it. They can't all be a hoax.
As for the invisible pink dragon in your garage, if I knew you well enough, and new you were totally sane and sober, and that you really believed that you could see this dragon, when no one else could, then I would believe you. I don't know for sure that one doesn't exist, so why would I doubt what you see, just because I can't see it?
As for providing evidence of any of these things, it doesn't do any good, when no one believes it anyhow.

Anyhow, I didn't mean to stir up trouble or to have any long drawn out arguements, so please try to keep it fun, and entertaining.

Yep, hundreds of thousands of people have seen Elvis since he died. They can't all be wrong. I suspect he is working in a McDonald's in Chile along with Princess Di. :D

Absolutely, unequivocally, yes. I didn't until I met my partner. She sees/hears/talks to dead people. We've been together for 17 years (apparently my parole docs got lost).

Within six months of meeting her, I saw her father and described him and what he was wearing to her. He'd been dead for 5 years. A few months after that I saw a tall blonde man in our kitchen. We had poltergeist activity in that house (a pelmet box lifted up off it's hooks, turned 180 degrees and landed on our bed the night we came back from a two week holiday, my stepdaughters door was scratched in the middle of the night etc etc etc). We had the house "cleared" by some weirdos, and it worked.

We moved into our new home in February, and we've seen orbs (black and white), and assorted thingumybobs. We've also had this house cleared, but we still get constant thumps, bumps and footsteps.

I've told my partner she's got to go, because I can't stand it anymore, but she just won't leave! I think some people really do funnel the energy. She's sure that her "invisible friend" when she was a little girl was actually a ghost.

Oh they haven't eh :!:

When you think about it, we live on a small insignificant planet on the outer rim of a quite unremarkable galaxy.

How vain we are to think we are the only intelligent life forms in this vast cosmos.

The late (and great) Carl Sagan was not only one of the greatest mind's of our time, but also a believer in the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence.

This man spoke our against Reagan's "Star Wars" initiative, campaigned against the use of nuclear weapons, won a Pulitzer Prize, wrote the forward for Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time", etc., etc.

Grab a cup of coffee, tea or whatever and sit down to read some more on this giant among men:

I have Sagan's early book Intelligent Life In the Universe, co-authored with Russian I.S. Shklovskii, where Sagan apparently writes with approval of the Drake Equation. The Drake equation has been (correctly in my opinion) largely debunked as a legitimate argument for establishing the likelyhood and frequency of extraterrestrial intelligence.

Of more interest is the following, from Sagan's more recent Demon-Haunted World

Carl Sagan wrote:

I'm freqently asked, 'Do you believe there's extraterresstrial intelligence?' I give the standard arguments - there are a lot of places out there, the molecules of life are everywhere. I use the word Billions, and so on. Then I say it would be astonishing to me if there weren't extraterrestrial intelligence, but of course there is as yet no compelling evidence for it.

Often I am asked next, 'What do you really think?'

I say, 'I just told you what I really think.'

'Yes, but what's your gut feeling?'

But I try not to think with my gut. If I'm serious about understanding the world, thinking with anything besides my brain, as tempting as that might be, is likely tp get me into trouble. Really, it's okay to reserve judgement until the evidence is in.

- The Demon Haunted World, Headline Books, p 170, 1997 edition

I agree totally with Sagan here.

Apologies for the off "ghost" topic comments but here is a section from the link in my post above about Sagan's stoush with Apple Computer that I really like (must be my "twisted mind" Roly  ):

"In 1994, Apple Computer began developing the Power Macintosh 7100. They chose the internal code name "Carl Sagan," in honor of the astronomer.

Though the project name was strictly internal and never used in public marketing, when Sagan learned of this internal usage, he sued Apple Computer to use a different project name - other projects had names like "Cold fusion" and "Piltdown Man", and he was displeased at being associated with what he considered pseudoscience.

Though Sagan lost the suit, Apple engineers complied with his demands anyway, renaming the project "BHA" (Butthead Astronomer). Sagan sued Apple for libel over the new name, claiming that it subjected him to contempt and ridicule.

Sagan lost this lawsuit as well; still, the 7100 saw another name change: it was now called "LAW" (Lawyers Are Wimps). "

Roly,

Have always liked these 3-D pictures. Have a couple of books of these and they are always fun when you want to just chill out or take your mind off serious things. The figure is not so scarry though.

Glen & Sherro,

Some say you don't stare at the picture for details but look at it kind of cross-eyed or focus either in front or at the back of the picture; almost like you are dozing off and then the picture kind of pops up.

I guess I have had so much practice that I might look cross-eyed to some. Hehehe

Cheers

Sherro,

It's a man wearing a kind of pointed hat with his hands thrust out to claw you.

By the way I wonder whether we are talking about seeing ghosts or simply getting sidetracked?

Well, it looks to me like a witch. Female variety.

I think there is a specific test to check for colour blindness/ability to see various colour shades. This is in the form of a book with each page containing groups of circles of different colours and sizes.

If you have "non-normal" colour sight you can see a large number formed within the group of circles.

Perhaps this is why some people could see the illusion on Roly's image and others cannot.

Also, perhaps the colour differences between LCD or CRT screens may have an effect as well?

I've done that colour-blindness test and can see every number. I've tried looking at the 3D books, but I see nothing there either. I also find it hard to "unfocus" as my glasses are graduated lenses (trifocal). I can feel my eyes actually refocus at times.

If you copy the image and then make it into a screen background it is very easy to see even on a 19" LCD.

I have enlarged this to A3 size and printed it and it still works fine :)

You should see a witch with pointed hat and arms extended toward you.

Then, ..... maybe not..... Maybe it is all an illusion or some sort of weird digital construct.

Hmmmmm

I suspected it was a witch but was not sure as she was not so well endowed!!

Have made photostat copies of such art and they still work fine in that you can see the image but not in colour of course.

l've also taken colour-blindness tests and passed every one of them.

The colorblindness tests you are referring to are the Ishihara tests. They determine which colors you can and cannot differentiate correctly.

All people working in the electrical industry must pass the Ishihara Tests prior to licensing. The simple test is located here

http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Ishihara.html

I test all prospective employee's and work experience personal with this test, just to be on the safe side.

Ahhh the dreaded spots (or is that orbs) :)

Every male pilots dread....

I find I have problems with the 'spot' tests as illustrated in the above link but for the pilot tests we have here in NZ we use Red, Green and white lights.

I have no problems with the lights particualrly if I partially use my periferal vision. I have taught that trick to many of my students going for a night rating as well :)

Cheers

Roly

Thanks apptec,

Yes the Ishihara test was the one I did in a science class in high school many years ago.

At that stage only one or two others in my class were red-green colour blind to some degree.

I have seen these books since then and looking at the web link now provides the same result. I am cured :!: Does this happen - does anyone know if you "grow out of it" at some stage :?:

First sensible thing I have heard inrelation to UFO's.

Of course there is lilfe on other planets, but why would they want to come here?

My father was a very rational, black and white kind of man. A D-Day veteran, a career soldier, and a Military Policeman to boot. When we came to Oz, he was on the way to work one morning before sunrise, on his bike, when he looked up. He described to me that he saw a line of six lights, obviously very high but moving at a fair pace, line astern. They then stopped completely, three lights moved to form a right angle with the other three, then after a few seconds, each group of three accelerated in the direction they were pointing in and disappeared.

I've believed in UFO's ever since.
