(Final Results)

1st Place - Darkice, winner of the third Annual Stampboards Footy tipping contest.

2nd Place - AndrewWalker,

3rd place - sjperth

LAST place - swoosh

==============

Yep we are back, and the third Stampboards AFL annual tipping contest will be starting shortly.

It will include lots of prizes both throughout the season, with major prizes to the ultimate top and last place getters at the end of the season.

I do not expect anybody to read through the week to week events of the two previous Yearly tipping threads, but it is enough to say that we had a ball last year and the year before.

This will be the thread to post your tips, talk footy gossip, have fun, win something, and eventually understand how Geelong (Go Catters!) will win yet another Premiership.

... and also work out that an American, and a Sydney person who between them, have never seen a game of Australian Rules Football in their life, were first and second in successive seasons for the first two seasons this competition was run.

So this year I expect that a true Aussie Rules fan will beat both Lakatoi (from NSW, enough said) runner up 2008, winner 2009) and Clino (winner 2008, runner up 2009 from the USA, enough said)

The rules, and the fixture, and other details will be posted in the next few weeks. Let's have as much fun as we have had in the past two contests. In other words...enjoy.

Serious posts will test my temper!

First prize : will be a $100 Gift Voucher from Glen Stephens, and you can purchase whatever you want from Glen

Second Prize : will be an annual subscription to "Stamp News" - the leading stamp magazine in the Southern Hemisphere. That is worth $A89.50 for Australians, and $130 for anyone overseas.

Third Prize : Is a 16 page European made Stockbook from Mr Boggler

Last place : A 1949 £1 "Arms" high value in a perfectly centred imprint block of 4, VERY kindly donated by member pandadog. Retail in this grade easily $250.

The Stampboards AFL Footy Tipping Contest is starting for the 2010 season, and all members are welcome to join in the fun.

The 2009 winner, Lakatoi4 was a Rugby Union supporter, and the 2008 winner Clino, was from the USA and neither of these winners had ever seen an AFL match in his life, so anybody can win. We had over 30 starters the first year, over 50 last year, and had a really good time. Let's try to break the 75 barrier this year - it might get me a 10th grain of sticky rice as my annual payment for Modding on the Board (even though I have never seen any of the rice I am owed) .

If you have a few hundred hours to waste, here is the (huge) thread where we played out the competition in 2008:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4914

And in 2009

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11481

We will have lots of prizes, as many of our members from previous years can attest to, including surprize prizes for selected rounds, and certainly there are end of the season prizes for the top three tipsters plus a prize (subject to the rules) for last place.

Join up and have some fun - no skill needed, just five minutes required once a week to post who you think will win the eight matches. And you do not need to know anything about Australian Rules Football to play.

And anyone comng in late can join in for up to eleven weeks after the season starts, although you will be at a disadvantage tp those who came in from the beginning.

The Footy starts on 25 March, so get in on time.

Don't wait - subscribe now. No skill is required to play, so overseas members are definitely welcome, as long as you pick Geelong every week. :D

And of course, it is completely free.

The Rules:

A list of all forthcoming AFL matches will be listed each Monday (or Tuesday if there is a Monday match) during the season.

All you need to do is predict who will win each of the eight matches to be played over the following weekend.

One point will be awarded per correct selection. No points will be awarded for any drawn matches (unless somebody actually predicts a draw of course).

The total number of correct selections will be aggregated over the entire season and the winner(s) shall be the person(s) who picks the most winners of the 176 games over the season.

All AFL results, the progressive AFL ladder and a progressive list of where you stand on the Stampboards tipping contest will be posted weekly.

All predictions must be posted and board time-coded by 7:00PM Australian Eastern Standard Time each Friday (if there is a Thursday match, the Thursday deadline will apply). Late entrants will recieve the "away" team for any match where the deadline has passed.

Posts may not be edited after 7:00PM on the night the round starts.

If a member does not post in a particular week, or misses the deadine above, he or she will be awarded the away (second named) teams as his/her selections.

Any member who does not post for three weeks running, or for six weeks in total once having joined will be considered to have withdrawn from the competition.

Any member within four points of winning the "last place champion" prize MUST make selections in the final round (Round 22) or will be automatically disqualified from winning this prize.

Members will have up until round 11 to join the competition. Any member joining after Round one will get an averaged aggregate total of all existing competitors as a starting score.

If there is a tie for any of the prize positions at the end of the season the winner will be chosen by a countback. So if a tie occurs at the end of Round 22, the winner will be determined by who led the competition at the end of Round 21. If still a tie then the leader at Round 20 etc....

Any member who will be away during the season has the choice of being automatically given the "away" teams as their selections, or may select for all the weeks they will be away in advance. Go here:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17711

for the complete 2010 AFL fixture. This will give you all the matches to be played while you are away.

The winner will be announced the Sunday evening immediately following the completion of Round 22 on Sunday 30 August.

If this is unclear in any way, please post your concerns and I will clarify anything you may have a problem with. I discovered a long time ago that I am not perfect - not even close.

Norm

Well, in retrospect, maybe Freud was right, and I was thinking about Lara Bingle.

{Nobody outside of Australia is going to get that one, so I will find a link!)

http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/people/ ... -pr86.html

For those not in the know, Brendan Fevola is a (AFL player) nut case who ripped open Lara's shower curtain and took nude photo's of her a couple of years ago (while they were having an affair), which subsequently got published (Lara is now an acomplished model). Then he got completely drunk at last years Brownlow Medal on live TV, got sacked by his club, and moved to the Brisbane Lions.

His future in the AFL is a bit questionable. Bingle is going to sue Fevola.

Your all very brave people tipping 2 weeks out

I'll have to wait for the 23nd to know the ins and outs because there is one or two games that could go either way. ;)

That is OK if you know what you are doing - I haven't got a clue. :P

I will be bumping this thread next Tuesday, and then "let the games begin". Since this is the third year we have been going, I reckon that I can get to within 6 hours of when the major players will post their predictions each week.

Last year, well, I was actually running second when an unexpected event happened, and I fell off the leader board So, to quote Marlon Brando:

"You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it. It was you, Charley."

Movies are my other passion as old time regulars know. It's fun and games here though, and I do hope that everyone hangs in here and keeps posting throughout the season.

About Tuesday to Thursday, the posts are going to go toxic here. I am expecting (one extra grain of rice please Glen) maybe up to 75 starters this year.

Norm

Sorry, but due the the economic downtown, your cat-herding renumeration needs to be dropped this year from 8 grains of sticky rice to SEVEN.

However, the good news is, I've been able to negotiate a great rate on aluminum foil roof insulation for you!

And again please pencil me down for a First Prize of a $100 Glen Stephens gift voucher for the lucky winer .. ALL are eligible to win - Norm included, as he gets no special advance notice of winners -- indeed as he always tips Geelong he has a 10 game handicap already for 2010. :)

Glen

I wasn't going to shame myself again but it looks like I will get no joy following the Rabbitohs in the other game this year!

Round 1 Picks.
Richmond.
Geelong.
Hawthorn.
Sydney.
Brisbane.
Port Adelaide.
Bulldogs.
Adelaide.

Norm. do you have preferred format for submitting tips, ie, would you prefer spacing (paragraphs) between teams, anything that will make your job easier,
All the Best, Ron(raz)

Global Administrator suggests Western Bulldogs were successful only because of Barry Hall from the Swans. He is correct and doesn't this household know it with my wife and daughter both Swans fans. My three sons all Bomber fans no longer live at home.
I would like to see Western Bulldogs win the big one against St Kilda as it is not Essendon's window yet, maybe within two to three years.

I'm pretty laid back, and take what I get. What you posted is fine by me.

Could be some TIGERS that could spoil everybody's party as well!

Again many thanks Norm for organising this, I won the last place prize a couple of years back and that was great!! :D

Might hold on to the tips for a couple of days yet, see what develops.
