I received a letter from Norway to Canada in two days by regular air mail. That is a first.

Never seen that.

What about you?

And from the second end - USA to Czech republic, airmail about 2 months - delayed not due to technical problems or strikes - only some idiot clerk overlooked Czech republic, so it was originally send within a state and then to Czech republic by ship. And this happened to me at least twice.

ANd now the fast service both ways. In the Pre-PayPal time I used to pay for my eBay purchases by sending cash in a registered envelope. So, I sent letter on Monday afternoon - let say 3 p.m. to Denmark and received the items on Friday morning. So, both ways in 4 days.

Shortest - Denmark to GB in one day.

Shortest inter-continental - Japan to GB in three days. The place in Japan was Yamaguchi, nowhere near Tokyo.

The most annoying is things like two packages sent from Canada recently, sent by the same person from the same post office at the same time. Package two of two took four days, package one of two took eleven.

I once got a pile of books from Washington DC for my employer in the UK. They were sent in five packages paid for by surface mail as they were for record purposes and not urgent.

One got to the UK in four days, sent by air mail at no extra charge - thank you :D . Three rolled in separately in the next two to four weeks via surface mail :) . The fifth turned up three months later with transit marks for Caracas clearly stamped on it!

That's Caracas in Venezuela. :!: :!: :!:

Germany to UK regularly gets here in 2 - 3 days.

I've also received mail from NZ in quick time. The NZ World Cup Winners sheet was a case in point. The match was on the Sunday, the sheet ordered on the Monday, and received here in UK before the end of the week.

I can get a letter sent to me from the UK (2 - 3 days) faster than I can get a similar item from the US (1 to 2 weeks), sometimes even another state in Australia (3 to 4 days).

Australia - Belgium in 5 days.

To compare; that same period I send a card from one end to another in Belgium, about 120 km. in distance. It took 7 days :D

Andy

I had a customer last Tuesday who wanted stamps urgently for a birthday present on Friday. I emailed bank details, she paid by telephone banking, I checked the bank online, posted the stamps Tuesday afternoon. Delivered next day.

No big deal but this was a journey longer than many to mainland europe! From Dereham, Norfolk, to St Margarets Hope, South Ronaldsay, Orkney - according to google maps 666 miles by road. Of course it would have gone by air part of the way, but that's still impressive. I could have charged £6+ more for special delivery next day, but I reckoned it was unnecessary based on usual the performance by Royal Mail that I experience. Others are less fortunate and have cause to complain, but generally it is excellent.

From Dereham Norfolk posted Monday 11 June
Arrived London Ontario Thursday 14 June

Of course the customer would have preferred that I had posted it back on 15 May when he paypalled but I must have been taking a leaf out of Glen's book.

I received a letter from Florida that I know was posted on the 8th. June, it was cancelled in Houston on 15th. June (presumably that's an o/seas sorting hub) and I got it on 27th. June (i.e. almost 3 weeks to deliver).

Talk about an abysmal postal service

On the other side of the coin, I sent a letter from Sydney to Bavaria last Friday and it was received on the following Wednesday 5 days later (including a weekend).

Aust. Post and Deutsche Post well done 8)

A British friend once sent me a letter, but in error he typed the word Australia thus: "U S A".

Three days after he posted the letter it arrived at my home.
