I am a retired school principal with two years stamp collecting experience.

I realise how much knowledge is needed in this hobby so I joined this group to assist with that knowledge.

I have limited my collecting and interests to Australian State stamps; with an emphasis on Tasmania where I am lucky enough to live.

”Welcome” to all the MANY new members in recent weeks. :D

We now have 21,500 REAL members, from over 160 different countries at last count - add your own country here if you wish -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3436

Remember, you need to make at least Two (2) posts to get this ugly Yellow "NEWBIE" hairshirt off your back :D ....

Image

So DO wander around, and add a few posts. I am amazed how many members sign up, make just one post in this thread, and we never see them post again. Most of the new members on this page alone are in that boat!

If all members did that, we'd only have 21,500 posts over our past 15 years - not our current 6.5+ MILLION messages! So please, make post #2 now, and get the “Newbie Jacket” off your back. :)

Get to just 5 posts, and you get a brand new colour member star and ranking. Same with 10 posts, and 25 posts etc - https://tinyurl.com/StarsSB

Best of all, new members can claim their choice of superb FREE stamps just by clicking this link – a superb reason to get off post #1! All details here –

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50036

And here is a great link for ALL members to bookmark - new AND old members! To have a quick look at the current hot discussions on stampboards at ANY time, simply click – https://tinyurl.com/SBDnew

https://www.stampboards.com/search.php?search_id=newposts

If you are NOT logged in, you usually cannot see that. The board moves so fast now, you'll miss NOTHING new, if you bookmark that link.

You can see “what’s hot” that day, and click immediately on the thread(s) that interest YOU most. Add a comment please to those that interest you.

We have TWO on board “Search” Engines. The one at top of page, and the VERY powerful site specific Google one right at base of page.

Enjoy the boards, and many thanks for joining our friendly COMMUNITY here! :D

Welcome aboard Windigo.

I look forward to seeing more of your Privatpost/Stadtpost material and I would be happy to hear from you if you want to make contact via the board email.

I have a lot of material to trade (if that is of interest) and a lot of literature in German that I struggle with that you may be able to help with.

Welcome Shryder, from Luton UK.

Do they still have the famous Girls' Choir?

Learning something new every day is a great plan for your involvement with philately. That dimension makes it very satisfying, and it's easy to pursue questions or connections in depth these days — thanks to Stampboards in particular, and the internet in general, making that kind of follow-up easy to pursue.

/RogerE
Hi /RogerE,

Must still be famous then :) … Not so much nowadays I'm afraid...I went to school with a guy whose Mum was in the Choir during the height of their fame!! Luton is famous for very little now, apart from the Football Team, and the Hat Industry is still around albeit with a more bespoke clientele....Oh, and the Airport....but that's pretty much it.

I realy would like to share knowledge and stuff. I also have lots of literatue from 1880 until now, so i think i can help you. Now i try to build up a collection of the Privatpost Speditions AG. and go on competition with it. From Packetfahrt and other Berlin companies i have over 1000 letters and stuff i would like to trade for my collection. If needed i also have a lot of contacts where i can get some good things. So if you want you can write a board mail with your questions.

Thanks for your reply Shryder. I read about the Luton Hoo, now a luxury hotel rather than a private estate. Its five acre walled garden sounds very attractive — wish I could see it!
I learnt that a hoo is the crest of a hill. Is that topographical feature still discernible? /RogerE :D

Yes, Luton Hoo is atop a hill, actually, more of a plateaux so not too viewable from surrounding roads....you have to drive through the estate to appreciate it. Its actually where Pr Phillip officially proposed to QEII !! Nowadays its a fine hotel, fine restaurant (only been a few times...very expensive!!), its also a movie location, and stayover of choice for F1 drivers !!

Hello fellow stamp collectors/philatelists!

I am a retired systems engineer who has collected stamps for as long as I can remember. My dad introduced the hobby to me when I was young (now 64).

I maintain several collections:

* United States up to 1996
* United Nations up 1996 complete
* Canada up to 1996
* Rest of the world up to 1956
* World wide Perfins both on cover and off
* United States Precancels
* United States Plate Number Coils, used only, both on cover and off
* Stamps and banknotes engraved by Czeslaw Slania
* World wide cinderella stamps including revenue/fiscal, telegraph, locals, etc. stamps
* Probably a couple of others I can't think of right now

I have used the forums frequently for research. Now it is time to get active.

— is that all you collect? Surely there must be more‽
But seriously, many of us collectors do have quite a list of collecting areas. In practice, there are always two or three areas we are currently pursuing so they immediately come to mind when we are asked to list our collecting areas. But then there are always other areas that we have not been working on as actively for a shorter or longer while. Also, the areas currently active change from time to time. And, if we keep our collecting minds open, there is always the chance that something new will take our fancy, and inspire us to start a new collecting area in addition to all the existing ones... It's hard to confine the collecting urge within fixed boundaries ;)

I have been collecting stamps since as far back as I can remember. I have also all my father’s stamps and father-in-law’s dating back to the 1920’s. I am now 78 and my family have no interest in my collection; they say stamp collecting is only for nerds!
I live in a retirement village in the beautiful Table Mountain range in Cape Town, South Africa. We are still in lockdown because of the virus, and have been since March, so I have had a wonderful opportunity to get stuck into my stamp collection again.
My main reason for joining this forum is to get unbiased help with some of my collection. I have found huge discrepancies when I have asked for advice as to the value of a particular stamp or set of stamps. I will also be selling some of my collection, and maybe trade to complete some sets.
I have collected stamps from just about every country and obviously living in South Africa I have a lot of stamps from my own country and surrounding countries, as well as first day covers..
Just for fun I have posted this picture of the cover of the stamp album that my father-in-law used in the 1920’s. He lived in Holland hence the “Postzegels” name.

Welcome to Stampboards mypandit from Seattle, WA, USA. You have a nice range of collections, so you should never be struggling to find new items to add. Especially so if you go "beyond the catalogue" and add multiples, first day covers, commercially used covers, colour trials, plate varieties, specimens, and so on — in principle, any limits are only self-imposed. ;)

Hello,

I'd like to re-introduce myself as my main collecting interest has changed. I now concentrate on the stamps of France, so posts and replies will mostly be about French stamps and related subjects.
Hi brandenburg5,

Nice to "meet" you. I recently started collecting French stamps as well. Mainly the engraved landscapes/buildings. Such beautiful stamps. Looking forward to seeing some of your collection 8-)
Started collecting Commonwealth Australian stamps. Then Australian kangaroo flaws. Then Australian pre-decimal flaws. Have now got my eye on worldwide birds, animals, gardening/backyards and engraved beauties. Oh, and maybe volcanoes. Who knows what tomorrow will bring

Alan, I have a major Cape of Good Hope collection and have visited the area a number of times since 2000. Also a member of my family was named Parry. Might I suggest to you the Royal Philatelic Society of Cape Town. They are a friendly bunch and meet locally in Newlands.

Kindest regards

Hello all,
Glad to be on board.
I've been a collector for quite a few years. About 15 years ago I discoverd German Colonies and have been addicted ever since. I focus on Togo and the Asian colonies and offices in China. Add Marine Schiffspost to that also.
I look forward to interacting and learning more about my chosen area of interest.

Hello dietrite, in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Welcome to Stampboards.

A comment/suggestion (no pressure!): Your collecting interests are quite specialised. Are you susceptible to finding something you like outside that very well defined area, and just acquiring it because you like it? That can add a new collecting area to your current interests, and has the extra value of giving you a whole new topic of interest. You can find lots more material for a new start-up than for collections you have already advanced, and the pleasure of finding less expensive, more readily available items (at least until you've developed some depth in the new collection) is reinvigorating!

Introducing Myself

Post by fox1 »

Hi all I am Fox1, I Collect Brazil, Australia, NZ and US stamps.

Brazil is my main strength having collected and sold them for quite a while now. If you have questions on Brazilian stamps I may be able to help as I have much literature on these stamps including the much sort after, rare 1996 specialist catalogue on the Tintureiro ( "the Dyer") issues with all their fabulous errors ( and still counting) and printings BUT - I do not use Scott or SG as the bible of Brazil stamps, IMO, and many other Brazil collectors, is RHM ( written in Brazilian Portuguese) catalogues that are similar to the ACSC except they have all the flaws and errors in the one or catalogues, but like ACSC, have some years of the Cat that have special listings of flaws for certain issues etc.

If you have collected Brazil in recent years , you are on a winner - they have gone through the roof with pricing much like NZ stamps with many increasing in heavily in price from just five or six years ago. Heaven knows what the 1843 Bull’s Eye 30r+30r+60r Se-tenant that last sold for $2,185,000 is now worth! People forget Brazil was the second nation to issue postage stamps after the UK with a rich political history to boot.

Anyway that's enough about me folks.

Hello All!

I’m an avid collector since the age of ten (now 42) as well as an active stamp dealer since the age of fourteen. Born and raised in Iceland while currently living in Sweden.

My current MAIN interests are Icelandic postal history as well as Icelandic and Swedish revenues and savings stamps of all sorts.
In addition to this I have a seemingly endless list of other philatelic subjects in which I’m interested.

I’ll gladly assist with any questions that may arise regarding my areas of specialty as well as help with translation of shorter texts in Icelandic if needed by other members.

Happy collecting!

Hello fox1 from Brisbane, Australia.

Are there many serious collectors of Brazilian stamps in Australia, or are most of your customers overseas?

How is your Brazilian Portuguese? Can you tell us how it differs from Portuguese as spoken in Portugal?

Bienvenu à Stampboards travisbatteur!

I commend to you a thread you might not have found yet:

Perhaps you can add an update?
