Hello everyone. I'm new to stamp collecting.

My name is Robert Rodriguez, I live in Kansas and it's nice to meet you all. Well It started about 5 yrs ago when I was Hired to tear down and old house.

Well that's when I found my first stamps they where in some old boxes that where protected when a piece of plywood fell on top of them and kept the rain off of them. 1880s stamps

I like how they looked and saved a lot of them not knowing what they could be worth. Well here I am 5 yrs later. Oh and with a lot less hair!!!! If you know what I mean. Lol

But now I'm hooked and never realized how must art is put into stamps! Amazing,! Beautiful they can be . So I apologize now for the many mistakes I will make on this website.

I'm not even sure if I'm posting this right I'm not very computer smart. So nice to meet you all and looking forward to learning a lot from you guys.

Thanks Robert

”Welcome” to all the MANY new members in recent weeks. :D

We now have about 22,500 REAL members, from over 170 different countries at last count - add your own country here if you wish -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3436

Remember, you need to make at least Two (2) posts to get this ugly Yellow "NEWBIE" hairshirt off your back :D ....

Image

So DO wander around, and add a few posts. I am amazed how many members sign up, make just one post in this thread, and we never see them post again. Most of the new members on this page alone are in that boat!

If all members did that, we'd only have 22,500 posts over our past 14 years - not our current 7 MILLION messages! So please, make post #2 now, and get the “Newbie Jacket” off your back. :)

Get to just 5 posts, and you get a brand new colour member star and ranking. Same with 10 posts, and 25 posts etc - https://tinyurl.com/StarsSB

Best of all, new members can claim their choice of superb FREE stamps just by clicking this link – a superb reason to get off post #1! All details here –

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50036

And here is a great link for ALL members to bookmark - new AND old members! To have a quick look at the current hot discussions on stampboards at ANY time, simply click – https://tinyurl.com/SBDnew

https://www.stampboards.com/search.php?search_id=newposts

If you are NOT logged in, you usually cannot see that. The board moves so fast now, you'll miss NOTHING new, if you bookmark that link.

You can see “what’s hot” that day, and click immediately on the thread(s) that interest YOU most. Add a comment please to those that interest you.

We have TWO on board “Search” Engines. The one at top of page, and the VERY powerful site specific Google one right at base of page.

Enjoy the boards, and many thanks for joining our friendly COMMUNITY here! :D

Hi from Sacramento, CA, USA. Stumbled on an old stamp behind some boards in a closet and stumbled on this site while trying to research where the stamp came from.

Interested in learning more about stamp origins and values. Fascinating stuff!

Thanks!

Good morning folks from a beautifully sunny north east Scotland (its rare; but it does happen !).

I'm Alan and have been collecting stamps in one form or an other most of my life. These days i focus on fine used from the period ~1914-~1955 from Europe, UK and Commonwealth. I was drawn here when looking for information on the local Soviet issues of Germany in the post war period and found a wonderful thread!

Looking forward to getting to know you all a little better.

Good morning. My name is Erik, a 35 year old Dutchman living in Berlin,Germany. I have degrees in history and linguistics, but not working in the academic field. Since the beginning of the pandemic I picked up my childhood hobby again.

My main collections are MH/MNH stamps from:

Eastern Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia/Montenegro/Yugoslavia (all until late 60's/early 70's)
Former colonies of France, Spain, Italy, Belgium & The Netherlands
States and occupational areas during World War I & II

Currently starting on a collection of the African Portuguese colonies

If there's no pandemic, I'm an avid traveller, also visiting more exotic regions of the world. I guess the stamps have been my way of seeing the world this past year ;)

Greetings,

My name is Chris.
I'm in my 60's and getting back into philately again.
I started collecting when I was a young boy.
We were very poor so my collection started as a "hand me down" from my sis.
It was an old Paperback Harris Freedom stamp album with some used US stamps.
I would convince my mom to buy a 1lb "Bag o Stamps" and then gleefully search for some stamps I could soak and mount in my precious album. I would dream of the day I could afford to buy my own stamps and remember spending time down at the five and dime store looking at the 49 cent pre packaged Treat Company collection of stamps, deciding which ones I would buy some day. Then other interests took over and the stamp collection was shelved.
Then in my mid twenties I found the old album and for a short time fulfilled some of those childhood dreams, getting some of those at the time unattainable less than $1 stamps. It felt good, but I had a young family so the collection was shelved once again. I found the album again in my 30s and spent several years updating the album to a 2 volume Scott Minuteman Set. I also invested in mounting everything in Scott clear mounts. I also had the opportunity to significantly add to my collection. Then life throws you a few curve balls and again, the collection was boxed up and put into storage. Then one day I was watching YouTube and found "Exploring Stamps" by Graham Beck. After a few episodes I just had to find the collection again. I was so excited to find it and look through it once again. Fast forward a year, and today my entire collection has been moved to new American Heirloom Hingeless Albums. I believe the albums are more valuable than the stamps they contain, but I don't care. Now I am able to invest in some more valuable stamps and I am excited. Since it all started with used US stamps, that is what I collect. Thank you for this Chat Board and community I can be a part of.
Be Kind.

Hello All –

I collected stamps when I was younger, and gave up age about 20. My collection then sat in boxes for 35 years – it wasn’t forgotten though, and I always thought I would go back to it at some point. Last year seemed like the right time to restart, particularly as lockdown meant I had more spare time at home.

I’m currently in the process of merging my old collection with one I inherited many years ago from my grandad (both collections worldwide). I am keeping it simple – generally restricting myself to 1-2 pages per country, and mainly only including stamps that I like and which are in good condition (mint if possible) Once I have done that there is a couple of albums of GB stuff that needs sorting out. After that, I’m not quite sure, but I have got a few ideas. Particularly like Commonwealth (especially 1920 – 1960) and GB. Also find France and colonies attractive, and keep coming across other regions/eras that I like!

Andy

It would be lovely if quite a few of our new members would introduce themselves to the rest of us, using this valuable thread. Well over 3000 of them have yet to put up their introductory post or any other one. That is approximately one in 7 members!
I prefer to collect UK, British Commonwealth esp Pacific area ( not excluding West Indies/Canada ) and Western Europe. At the bottom of my zone of interest is Eastern Europe and communist countries.

Hello all - I'm 65 next week and collected stamps (like most kids in those days) when I was younger but drifted away. I've always held a residual interest, picking up interesting first day and commemorative covers over the years, but 5 years of so ago someone gave me some old stamp albums from a relative and it rekindled my interest. I've since picked up some interesting old albums at car boot sales and collectors' fairs and have started my collection again. It'll be good to hear from fellow collectors as we seem to be fairly few and far between these days!

Welcome Femuruy and Shankly to this Stampboards. There are more members on this board than I would have guest. It’s too bad more do not get involved in posting more on more of the threads or starting a thread of their own. My experience to this point is: The more you post the more you learn, the more you know, the more who know you, the more you learn, and so on, and so on. Soooo. The more we know about you the more you learn and know about us. Just watch for RogerE, Big Saint and Ubobo (something, mind mind just went foggy  ) and you’ll see how it’s done.

The key to this hobby is to enjoy the ride and have fun by following through on promises and as I’m sure you will find following the rules of each thread as found on the first page of said thread. :D :D :D

Greetings to everyone! I am new here. My name is Vasily Yunack, originally from Soviet Union. Currently locate in the UK.

I was collecting different things, including stamps, since childhood. Currently I keep collecting stamps and FDC related to the Seventh-day Adventist church, and related to Bible, including illustrations of Bible stories. My Bible collection is not extensive, while the SDA Church collection is my priority. I target to get the most possible stamps and FDCs on the topick.

I will appreciate any input in that.

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yourself!

Post by rmasdf »

Hi all,

As requested, I'll introduce myself and explain why I'm here!

I'm a guy in London, U.K., that may be about as identifiable as I'll comfortably be as I like to keep Internet presence minimal. Essentially, Asperger's gets the best of me as I obsess with various infrastructures and how things are put together around the country; physical things as well as data theory. I'm interested in anything that be made into a list or a map. For example, electricity substations, water pumping stations, gas station sites, wind turbines, council blocks, post boxes and post offices, the list goes on and on. Each piece of infrastructure tends to have a unique ID and it's basically my drive to get as many as possible, understand how things are distributed and why.

Why am I here? I found a thread diving into the branch codes of Royal Mail attempting to figure them out so I registered to contribute my findings. I'll be honest I don't collect anything physical such as stamps, but I will research into the data stored on them or what they represent, along with other Royal Mail data such as their various barcodes and data formats.

I'm not a member of any organisation or group, I tend not to really share the data I've collected or compiled as this can take me numerous hours, days, over the course of years to piece together. To simply hand it out to people on a plate can feel very defeating but if I can help someone with some little bits of information I'm happy to give it a shot!

Looking forward to interacting with you all though it may not be frequent.

WELCOME ALL!
I'm an old collector from way back when, stopped for many years & started up again.
This board has been the best help I ever could have imagined. So much knowledge in one place. The "Sheriff" is great & Roger seems to run the "welcome wagon" with marvelous zeal - always finding great pieces from everyone's home abode.
Thanks folks :) :) :) !!!

Rodger: If you want me to post pics of my digs in Egypt just let me know (& tell me the proper thread!)
Courtesy is contagious.

Hello Old Architect. I "beg off" any claim to running the welcome wagon — from time to time I like to add a post saying "hello" to new members, but that is purely informal, and depends on how busy I am at the time.

A suggestion about a thread for posting Egyptian archaeological images? Look at this link, and see whether you think your images might be at home in that thread:
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=93994&p=7216191
Before you decide that thread is just for Lebanese stamps, have a look at the recent post by CharlesD made on Sat Jun 05, 2021 16:53:19 pm.

Hello Roger~~
I stated it "seems" you run this thread. But you are a gracious host, none the less, & your enthusiasm is infectious. Thank you for your greetings & introductions to all :)
When I joined you asked about my adventures in Egypt. I appreciate the link. Perhaps the "Photo of yourself" thread may be more appropriate. I'm unsure if there's much interest in my still unpublished pics of the Amenmesse Project (KV-10 & KV-63) which I am the sole archivist.... Finishing the work of friend Otto Schaden.
As we all connect with languages, perhaps some samples of hieratic? That would stump everyone I think :D . Few Egyptologists read it, that's why I transliterate for them ;) .
Courtesy is contagious.

Thanks Old Architect. Perhaps you have to start a new thread.
As for hieratic, there is a relevant post (but no transliteration!) in the Stamps and Languages thread, at
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=90529&hilit=determinative&start=429
and adjacent posts about hieroglyphics. Why not share a few "sample" pics for us, there or in a new thread‽ That would gauge interest.
