I am a new member to this forum from the Essex, UK. I started reading about the ‘Black Penny’ last week, and thought it would be brilliant to own a part of British Stamp History.

I’ve never owned stamps before, so looking forward to learning!

Thanks, Adam

Hi…replying to Honza.
Yes I did use to visit Caerel Stamps (Gordon Steadman). They moved from Old Post Office Court to further along Friar’s Court…..but have now sadly closed down. So, no longer any Stamp Shops in Carlisle.

Hi everyone,
I'm a new member from London.
Few months ago my grandfather passed away and I found a box full of stamps he had been collecting.
So I ended up researching on some of the stamps he had and found my way here.

Thanks turtle. I showed that cinderella stamp for new member Bob = BobDye who collects stamps from several countries where he has lived, including Vietnam.

Cinderella stamps broaden our collecting horizons, mainly because they are less familiar and not included in "normal" catalogues, so are more challenging to identify and understand. Your translation of the caption, and explanation of the significance of the stamp, are exactly the extra information we need to make that stamp more meaningful in a collection.

Thank you — cảm ơn bạn! :D

Hello everybody,

My name is Frank. I live in Hasselt (Belgium). I am into stamps and postal history for about 40 years. With some ups and downs due to other occupations; probably like most of us.

I ran into this forum a few times already when searching for information on postal history. Finally I registered an account.

During the years I have accumulated quite some stuff. Starting new collections, stopping collections, retiring collections, restarting collections, reorganising collections; also probably like most of us... ;)
I am not going to try to list everything I have been collecting.

My countries of interest are: Belgium, Egypt & Austria.
My topics of interest are: automotive & railways.

My current active collections are:
  • Belgium: postal history of Asse, my birth town. The old name is Assche. This collection is about 35 years old and is my oldest still active collection. It currently contains material from 1840 to the present days.
  • Belgium: (railway) parcel post service. Stamps, cancels, documents, rates.
  • Egypt: postal history of Alexandria. Egyptian postal service & consular offices of France, Austria, ....
  • Egypt: travelling post offices.
  • Austria: stamps and stationery in general, mainly used.
  • Austria: Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867-1918). Main focus on the period 1890-1908. Study of stamps, stationery, cancels, postal history in general.
  • Automotive: a Ford topical/postal history collection. This collection is aimed at official covers of the Ford Motor Company, offical covers of Ford dealers and covers with meter cancels with Ford advertising.
Best regards
Frank

Welcome to Stampboards Frank. It sounds to me that your collections are far better organized than mine will ever be. Congratulations on that alone.

We welcome any comments that assist another and have members who do a great job of answering any questions asked.

Roam the threads, add your own, and enjoy.

I am sure many would enjoy seeing some of your collections. So feel free to show them if you feel so inclined. :D :D

[A note that is no doubt well-known to Frank, but may be new information for some readers]

The mint railway parcel stamps of Belgium are much scarcer and more expensive than the used ones.
The used ones came onto the market in large quantities because the authorities periodically auctioned off bundles of accumulated despatch documents bearing them (so storage space was not overwhelmed). Dealers subsequently soaked many of them off those documents and a lot of them ended up as "packet fillers".
In contrast, the mint stamps largely remained within railway offices ready for use
in parcel despatch, so the mint stamps were not readily available to the public.

First post attempt.
Looking for advice and some technical support on this hobby which I have enjoyed for more than 60 years. I'm a bit concerned that my digital skills may not be adequate to prevent me making mistakes on this forum, however, I'll give it my best shot. I mainly collect Germany but I find it difficult to part with anything from the collections I have acquired over the years which has resulted in this additional material just taking up space, much to the chagrin and consternation of my long suffering wife. Thanking you in advance for your patience and I'm looking forward to making some new fellow collectors. Regards, Chainsaw1

Welcome Chainsaw1 to Stampboards. Wives are sweethearts and long-suffering that’s for sure.

Surplus collection item are good trade material. Check out the many threads and you can always find someone on board who either need what you have extra or knows someone who knows someone, etc.

You hopefully get my drift. Look around and enjoy,

Hello all

I am somewhat of a lapsed stamp collector. I started very young collecting Australian decimal and pre-decimal mint stamps and various foreign stamps that came my way. My father collected Russian stamps fairly seriously and I attended the Southport Stamp Club with him in the 70s.

When the stamp market became too crazy and expensive for a schoolboy, at 15yo I switched to postcards as I had a ready supply from family members. I have collected them ever since along with old photographs.

I now have a rather decent collection of over 20 000 picture postcards and I have thousands of postally used examples with a lot of interesting postal use. To supplement my collection of military postcards and photos, I collect military related covers.

I also collect postal cards as they form an integral part of picture postcard history. I have used and mint stamps interspersed among my foreign postcard collections.

I am webmaster for the Queensland Card Collectors Society Inc. Our club meeting monthly in West End, Brisbane in Australia. Our club is affiliated with the Queensland Philatelic Council Inc.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

My name is Peter and I have been a very serious collector, investor and sometime part time dealer over the past 40 years.

I have been reading Stampboards since inception and I finally joined 2 years ago and have finally decided to make my first posts.

I hope to contribute a lot of useful information and I am particularly disturbed at the damage that certain forgers are doing to the hobby.

I hope I can make a difference, even if a small one.

Hi, I am Farhat (male) :D, a proud Australian Citizen. I am a postgraduate research student plus working part-time with a family of three, two girls and a newborn man :).
Now, why did I join the group???
Good Question.
I actually need some advice here from my seniors on where to buy Australian kiloware stamps, I mean wholesale stamps here in Australia and also will learn with the passage of time, which stamp is more valuable and keeper - please note: I am a South Australian resident.

Hello and welcome to Farhat647 in South Australia

We promise not to confuse your Stampboards ID with Ray Bradbury's famous book Fahrenheit 451 ;)

Interestingly, kiloware is not commonly advertised in Australia. Perhaps some of the large charity organisations are marketing that kind of bulk stamps-on-paper reasonably priced. I suggest you e-mail a few and ask.

A list of charities in Australia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Charities_based_in_Australia
Various charities have strong community support, and good reputations for serving the community.
One popular example is the "Salvos", but there are plenty of others.

Hello ezaragoza from Nizhni Novgorod (Central Russia)
I usually collect coins and banknotes, but when it comes to stamps with owls or postage stamps issued by fantastic, self-proclaimed, micronations and virtual states (Seborga, Lundy, Hutt River, Wirtland and others), then this is what I need.

Hi, all! I am a BRAND NEW stamp collector (less than a month). I am very much interested in space-related covers, and as far as stamps are concerned, I have gravitated towards the Interwar (1919-1938) period. I have quickly discovered that I enjoy used as opposed to mint. I can’t wait to jump in and learn from everyone here.
