Hi there - I've just joined, but really only to try and determine a value and find a new home for a Limited Edition Australia Post Philatelic item I recently found in a cupboard. I know it's quite a rare item as I received it directly from Australia Post (sometime in the late '80s I believe) and I've not seen or been able to locate another one anywhere...
Hello Retsel. Please clarify "I received it directly" — was it a purchase you initiated, or perhaps a gift for services rendered? Was it sent through the post, or handed over at a special event? Those circumstances would help us understand the nature and significance of the item.

Greetings all from Las Vegas NV. I received a collection of stamps from my grandfather a few years ago when he passed away. Im trying to get more information on some of the stamps he’s left me. His dad (my great grandfather) was one of the first foreign correspondents for National Geographic. As such the collection includes some stamps from all over the world.

I recently began going through the collection then I started a home renovation project and a book with some stamps from Afghanistan fell out of a box. Given the current events over there I couldn’t help but wonder where I could find some more information about these stamps. I’ve found a few via google search but without a book to reference it’s beyond my abilities to find very much information about these stamps. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All I can tell is that they are from France, Afghanistan possibly and India in relation to a trip that took place in the early 1930’s

Ps. Sorry that letter cover is upside down I can’t figure out how to fix it.
Cheers

Welcome to thesoonerkid in Henderson, Nevada, USA

To rotate your images, you can use the Tools pulldown menu. With the image open on your laptop, select Tools > Rotate left for your first image, and do it twice for the cover from France to Kabul:
.
Afghanistan revenue, cancelled Départ Kaboul 19 June 1931
Afghanistan revenue, cancelled Départ Kaboul 19 June 1931
.
Cover from France to Kaboul
"Care of the French Legation, Kaboul"
Date stamped at Le Bourget airport (Paris) on 20 June 1931
Cover from France to Kaboul
"Care of the French Legation, Kaboul"
Date stamped at Le Bourget airport (Paris) on 20 June 1931
.
The fact that the first stamp is a revenue is suggested by its cancellation ("Départ"). Here is an Afghanistan revenue with a similar central design:

Hello new member Gene from Hamilton, New Zealand.

Here are two registered New Zealand covers (1938 and 1918) for your viewing pleasure:

Philatelic history documented by such covers has a keen following. Stamp News Australasia has been serialising images of a gold medal collection on Australian stamp dealers formed by Rod Perry, and acquired since his death (8 May 2020) by Richard Juzwin Stamp Dealers.

Hello Mikesstampshop in Lexington, South Carolina, USA.

Are you actually a collector, or just a dealer?

That reminds me of a New Yorker cartoon I recall from years ago. Man in coat and tails stands in a reception area, speaking on a telephone. "Yes sir, that is a table for party of four at seven pm for Dr Brown.
And may one ask, is that a real doctor, or merely a Ph.D.?"

Hi, my name is Joins and I live in the Czech Republic.
I like to collect all stamps, especially old stamps.

I wanted to ask for advice. I found this stamp and it looks as if it has been torn off or forcibly removed from the paper.
How can I clean the back?

And what is the price of a stamp?Thank you

Ahoj joins,

Welcome again!

Your stamp appears to have been mint, so perhaps it got damp and stuck to others. Is there any gum left? If not, and it has extra paper adhering to it, put it in a bowl of warm water and let it soak off.

It is quite a common stamp of little monetary value.

A few other notes as a newbie:-

1 This thread is only meant for introductions. List any questions on the 'You ask the questions - SOMEONE will have the answers!' thread.

2 Crop your image to remove the black area round the stamp.

3 Press 'Insert inline' below where the image is stored and it will avoid 'attachments' appearing.

Cheers,

Honza

Just wanted to welcome all who I have not personally welcomed and express my knowledge of how much fun and enjoyment I have received on this endeavor.

As a old gorged enjoyment sometimes comes at a cost, but here you receive it in all kinds of ways at no cost other than your own personal effort and involvement.

So welcome all and I have added my two bits for now.
