Hello again pamik.

Not a surprise that you're already a member of MSG, given your well-defined collecting field.
But don't add extra msg — it gives you a headache :)

Where in Buckinghamshire, may we ask?

Good evening, my name is Mike, but normally answer to Max! I have recently returned to the hobby and am interested in collecting mint GB stamps from 1840 to the present day. I currently live in Newark with my girlfriend.

Hello Mike/Max = mikeboyce2003 in Newark, Nottinghamshire, UK.
Welcome to Stampboards. :D

Some friendly comments/suggestions:
"Good luck" with getting a full mint collection! How much do 1840 penny blacks
and tuppeny blues cost in mint condition‽
On the other hand, no doubt more modern issues are affordable in mint condition...
Don't dismiss the possibility of collecting used stamps on "commercial" cover (they
have more story to tell). And there are all sorts of bylines — railway letter stamps,
revenues on document, perfins on cover, etc.
There are so many further possibilities...

Happy collecting, and happy browsing on Stampboards!

Hi. New Machin Collector

Post by County Fan »

Hi to all. I began collecting used Machin stamps around 2 years ago and now want to begin collecting mint Machins. I'm keen to swap and buy suitable stamps from other Machin collectors. I'd also welcome information about Scott Catalogue numbers for Machins, or transferring SG to Scott. If you have mint Machins for sale or swap please message me privately. JADH

Hello county fan in Menstrie, welcome to Stampboards.

You didn't tell us where in the world Menstrie is! I had to find out with Wikipedia:
Wikipedia wrote:Menstrie (Scottish Gaelic: Meanstraidh) is a village in the county of Clackmannanshire in Scotland. It is about 8 km east-north-east of Stirling
The specialised Machin treatment by SG is far better than Scott's treatment. They don't readily "translate".
This is not surprising, The best catalogue for the stamps of any particular country is almost always the
specialised catalogue printed in that country...

As a case in point, may I invite you to have a look at this post made in another thread today:

Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Eduardo, I am a professor and University researcher in the field of pharmacy, and I live in Cascavel-PR. I was a philatelist in my childhood, and I am thinking of going back to collecting stamps, but in a thematic way: I will collect some themes, preferably themes with few issues (for now).

I have a reasonable collection, mainly of stamps from Brazil between 1980 and 1992. I still need to re-organize and catalog my entire collection, evaluate the status of many of them, etc. Soon I will probably make a good part available for sale and, mainly, for exchange.

Among the themes that I'm interested in at the moment are AUTISM and the new theme that, unfortunately, started this year, COVID-19. These topics are of personal interest to my professional area. But, if all goes well, I intend to collect some other themes as well.

I hope to count on everyone to help me assemble this collection and, soon, I will also collaborate as much as possible with your collections. Good week to everyone.
.
Returning to philately. Themes of interest: Autism; COVID-19; Mollecular Modeling; Presidents of Brazil; Themes under study: ; 1981, The International Year of Disabled Persons; International Day of Disabled Persons; Pharmacy; Dentistry; Japan stamps with representations of characters or authors of anime and manga.

Hello ebormelo in Cascavel, PR [Paraná], Brazil. Welcome to Stampboards.

Have you already found the thread on Coronavirus stamp issues? Here's a recent post:
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=89900&p=6786678&hilit=covid#p6786678

I do not know Brazilian geography well, so for my own benefit I looked up Cascavel in Wikipedia.
Here's some of what I learnt, for mutual interest of other Stampboarders:
Wikipedia wrote:Cascavel is a city of Paraná state, Brazil. Is the fifth most populous city in Paraná with, with 324 476 residents.

An image of the city center of Cascavel, seen from my neighborhood. The trees are from the ecological park near my home. Cascavel has a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from 0 oC (winter) to 32-35 oC (summer).

It rains and winds quite a lot almost all year round, even in winter, although there are also periods of drought. It is a region with prominence for agribusiness.

Thanks ebormelo for the photo and extra information about Cascavel, PR = Paraná, Brazil. It's interesting to compare the latitude of Cascavel with that of some relevant cities on the east coast of Australia:
• 24° 58' South — Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil — ebormelo
• 26° 47' South — Caloundra/Golden Beach, Queensland, Australia — Waffle, Ubobo.R.O.
• 27° 29' South — Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
• 32° 56' South — Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia — RogerE

Thanks for the advice Roger. I followed the link you suggested but regrettably for me it took me to a forum discussing forgeries. Some people set out to collect forgeries, but as a forgery is really not a stamp then it's really not "stamp" collecting is it?

I'm looking for someone on here who is interested in selling or swapping mint Machins. I have a good collection of used Machins plus a fair supply of mint Machins of assorted values and types to offer in exchange. Please message me if you are interested.

Well County Fan, it's true that forgeries are not the "real stamps" that they pretend to be, but they are collectable. In fact, forgeries by famous forgers like Sperati are so widely sought after that they sell for huge sums, comparable to (or even exceeding) the cost of the genuine items. Look at this example proudly included in the prestigious Chapman collection:

[url]https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=91707&p=6775935/url]

There are also people who collect forgeries as a thematic/subject collection. For some collectors the category "cinderellas" includes forgeries, due to the fact that they aren't "real stamps". There are at least two types of forgeries — postal forgeries (intended to defraud the postal service by not paying the required postage) and philatelic forgeries (intended to part philatelists from their hard-earned money).

Summary: don't be too hasty to exclude forgeries from your collecting scope — properly identified as forgeries in a written up collection (as with the Chapman example) they enhance and broaden the "story" the collection has to tell.

Hello Yiannis = yannoslar in Larisa, Greece. Welcome to Stampboards!

Adding a "fun" subject to your collecting interests, like "strange and unusual" stamps,
is a great idea! It gives an extra dimension to your collecting, and takes you outside
the confinement of standard catalogue lists, into a space where you are much freer
to roam around and select whatever appeals to your sense of odd/strange/interesting!

Happy browsing on Stampboards :D

My Name's Danny from Singapore. I've been collecting stamps for over 20 years and am really happy to join this online community.

I specialise in thematics on birds (MNH sets where possible) worldwide and am currently broadening my collection to include errors and varieties as well.

Would be great to know fellow thematic enthusiasts here and discuss / contribute to this wonderful hobby of ours! Cheers!

I will introduce myself

Post by [rastinirv] »

Hello! My name is Chris, I live in North Carolina, and have always been fascinated by stamps but only in the past few months -- I suppose the pandemic has had something to do with -- have I really gotten serious about it.

I signed up here in the way I suppose many do: I wanted to ask a question (which I will do, once I track down the appropriate board).

It's more than likely, though, that I'll become, if not quite a regular, at least a frequent visitor to stampboards.

I hope you are all having a fine weekend.

Best,
Chris

Re: Hello All NEW Members - please briefly introduce yourself!

Hi all,

I’m re-discovering stamps now in my 50’s after being interested in them as a kid. I have inherited two large and unsorted collections from both my paternal and maternal grandparents. Hundreds and hundreds of stamps sitting in old bags and folders. So I thought I’d register on here and try and find out more about them. In particular, the Australian KGV and Queen Victoria heads from the early 20th Century as I literally have hundreds of them. If there is a special forum devoted to these then please let me know.

I also have hundreds of old Kangaroo stamps and many QE2 stamps of various vintages and many, many others. Its all a little over whelming to be honest!

Cheers
Luke

Hello Luke = bigday in Melbourne, Vic, Australia. Welcome to Stampboards!

Nice to see a new participant in the "Counting down from zero" thread :D
There are some other counting threads waiting for you — they're a convenient
way to build your number of posts (but most do have a turn-taking protocol).
