Note to new Stampboarder Felipe = piccinini78 in Brazil.

There is an amazing contemporary Australian artist named Patricia Piccinini, who creates new kinds of beings that appear for all the world to be real flesh and blood and hair and emotion, and move us to respond to them with a natural emotional response. You can read about her in many places, such as this Sydney Morning Herald article:
https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/beauty/meet-the-melbourne-a ... 51odz.html

Here is an example of a Piccinini creation:

Hi all .. I'm Phil, and I live in Coventry, UK .. I'm enjoying retirement partly by cataloguing my modest collection of stamps .. I have owned one or two scruffy albums down the years; not large enough or tidy enough to facilitate a decent display .. recently I decided to buy some stock books (with black pages and clear strips) and for the first time I can take pleasure in a leisurely thumb through lots of tidy pages filled with lots of fascinating stamps. :) :)

I can see that your collecting interest have changed since your first introductory post in 2017. But that is perfectly fine because most collectors do change their area/s of interest. :)

I think your English is fine, considering it's not your native language. :)

Since you have been away from the board for three years, I think it would be a good idea to take a look at the Rules for posting on the board. You can see all the Rules at this link:

Trying to help a bit. Old stamp is before WW I, or before 1900. Often people who do not collect, call stamps from 1960's and 1970's old, while these tend to be the most common stamps in the market (depending on the country). Usually countries with high population (such as USSR, USA, Germany and France) issued lots of stamps and they tend to be common.

Some countries issued lots of stamps to generate revenue from stamp collectors. Worst offenders were some Arab countries, but many communist countries and small islands did that too (along with some other poor countries).

Welcome to all the new members .

Two from Brazil this week -- small world!

I've visited Brazil about 10 times on holidays, (including New Year's Eve 4 times!) and love that area around Balneário Gaivota - visited nearby Porto Alegra too - wonderful city.

Glen

Thank you Sheriff. I am grateful for the patience and tips of all collaborators, at the beginning I had some errors in headings and posts but I am policing myself to make less mistakes. Balneário Gaivota is among the 10 fastest growing cities in the State of Santa Catarina, it had less than 5,000 inhabitants in 2004 when I arrived here and now its population is bordering 11,000 inhabitants with peaks in the summer between 60,000 and 80,000, by the sea now it has a beautiful boardwalk and dunes are preserved, natural protection against big waves, refuge for ferrets, owls and other birds.

Thanks Felipe = piccinini78 in Balneário Gaivota, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Some map checking tells me the latitude of Balneário Gaivota is 29.15 deg S,
comparing nicely with these east coast cities in Australia:
Brisbane 27.47 deg S, Newcastle 32.93 deg S, Sydney 33.86 deg S.

Currently all three are on the same time [11am Mon], 13 hours different from Balneário Gaivota [10pm Sun].
(Later, Oct-Mar, Brisbane is 1 hour behind Newcastle and Sydney, due to daylight saving time in the latter.)

On classic stamps: yes, Brazil's "Bull's Eyes" are wonderful stamps. Nice that you like Australia's "Kangaroo in Map" stamps.

Hi All,

By way of introducing myself, I am a relatively new stamp collector -- just over a year. I was going to throw out an old stamp album I had as a kid but decided to look through it. Though not interested in modern stamps, I found the old ones still interesting. So, I started a collection of 19th century U.S. only. Well one thing has led to another and I now have three other collections forming -- High Denomination U.S., physically large and small stamps that were/are postally used and most recently I decided I needed something really challenging. So I am studying the Indian Feudatory States that issued stamps.

This should keep me off the streets for awhile.

Welcome banknoteguy, you made it to the New Members' thread, congratulations!

Your stamp collecting interests are great — a nice variety, some challenges (intellectual as well as financial), and some chance of finding something to add to one of the collections when looking for something that will fit in another — adding something new is always good for keep up enthusiasm. (And no-one will think less of you if you add another collecting subject or two in due course, when you find something else that is interesting/attractive/fun. :D )

Happy Stampboarding!

Hi, I've finally got around to introducing myself here after browsing this excellent site for a while, I've found it very useful! Thanks to all the regular posters on here for their contributions to our philatelic knowledge.

I'm Graham, live in North Wales just a few miles west of Chester, UK. I work as a geologist, specifically in the field of biostratigraphy, using microscopic fossils to help with geological problems in the hydrocarbon industry.

I've been a stamp collector for over 40 years now, I've built up a large worldwide collection - I like to have many collecting interests so there is always plenty to add. I focus on stamps from the end of World War 1 to 2000/2001 when many European countries switched to the Euro. So many Pre-1918 stamps are beyond my budget, while obtaining postally used very modern stamps post 2000 is getting difficult!

My main collection is used stamps from many Western and Eastern European countries, G.B. and the larger commonwealth countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand) and East Asian countries, especially China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea (North & South) & Vietnam. China was my early speciality, but now prices have shot up so much I've switched my collecting to the other far East countries - I'm hoping formerly "unpopular" countries like Indonesia will be more desirable in the future :D

I also collect geology stamps related to my work, showing fossils and minerals.

Anyway, I guess that's enough detail to introduce myself for now. Look forward to using this site more often.

Happy collecting, Graham

Noswaith Dda, Graham, from other corner of the north. We do seem to have a rock collection, some purchased from that nice little place on Anglesey owned/ran by a character, as well as some hubby and son have collected from mines/caves and whatever else there is locally, and further afield across the border.

Coincidentally I’ve just returned from a brief trip to Anglesey. It’s a unique place geologically, and a designated “Geo Park”. The old copper mines at Parys mountain are fascinating.

The only GB stamp I’m aware of featuring Anglesey is the 1967 Pont Menai 1/6d, do you know of any others?

Hi Graham, yes well, not much of Anglesey itself but, there's the bridges issue and that has Menai Bridge on. It was after my lovely subpostmaster retired and I had to go to Anglesey to find a nice post office (one that doesn't complain when you want the nice stamps). 2015. Looking through my pictures on Instagram, I did use bridges on a letter to Brazil.

Doing my best! Need to write more letters tonight. Do you send much mail?

Son needed to send off a form to the council so we put You Stupid Boy on. Fed it in the right box of my avatar! Also fed were two more letters, 2p plus £1.68 Palace of Westminster, and the wrong bow stamp from Sherlock with additional postage.

Hi, like many people I don’t have the need to send much mail, mainly it’s greetings cards and at Christmas when I use nice commemorative stamps. If I get back to some selling of my duplicates on EBay then I always try and use stamps that I would like to receive :D

I like those local covers faro.

Maybe China prices will come down to more realistic levels in the future, but right now demand seems to be well ahead of supply! Similar situation with older Thailand too, that’s why I’m building up my Indonesia collection while they are still relatively affordable :D

Just joined on the 24th. Started collecting in the '70's, then stopped for 45-years. I have too many hobbies to count & more stuff that requires archiving from "the world."
I've visited this site previously but couldn't view the posts without joining....& I'm glad I did! I was able to find many good tips on forgeries (though it took a bit of digging) that saved me $1,000's. So hats-off to all those whom have contributed over the years. I'm grateful for all that accumulated wisdom.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone....especially if you can help me loading an avatar! The links just aren't "doing it" for me....& my generation invented these wonderful machines everyone is using :D !
