Hello I'm Terence from east London - I've collected stamps on and off all my life and sometimes dip my toe into dealing. Mostly interested in GB Victorian and four Kings and sometimes a bit of Commonwealth. At the moment particularly interested in Maltese Cross PM's on Line Engraved :)

”Welcome” to all the MANY new members in recent weeks. :D

We now have 21,500 REAL members, from over 160 different countries at last count - add your own country here if you wish -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3436

Remember, you need to make at least Two (2) posts to get this ugly Yellow "NEWBIE" hairshirt off your back :D ....

Image

So DO wander around, and add a few posts. I am amazed how many members sign up, make just one post in this thread, and we never see them post again. Most of the new members on this page alone are in that boat!

If all members did that, we'd only have 21,500 posts over our past 15 years - not our current 6.5+ MILLION messages! So please, make post #2 now, and get the “Newbie Jacket” off your back. :)

Get to just 5 posts, and you get a brand new colour member star and ranking. Same with 10 posts, and 25 posts etc - https://tinyurl.com/StarsSB

Best of all, new members can claim their choice of superb FREE stamps just by clicking this link – a superb reason to get off post #1! All details here –

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50036

And here is a great link for ALL members to bookmark - new AND old members! To have a quick look at the current hot discussions on stampboards at ANY time, simply click – https://tinyurl.com/SBDnew

https://www.stampboards.com/search.php?search_id=newposts

If you are NOT logged in, you usually cannot see that. The board moves so fast now, you'll miss NOTHING new, if you bookmark that link.

You can see “what’s hot” that day, and click immediately on the thread(s) that interest YOU most. Add a comment please to those that interest you.

We have TWO on board “Search” Engines. The one at top of page, and the VERY powerful site specific Google one right at base of page.

Enjoy the boards, and many thanks for joining our friendly COMMUNITY here! :D

John.......Ireland.

I started collecting as a child and from October 1970 (sheesh 50 years) been collecting Ireland stamps. I took a 12 year break 2000-2012 and returned with the attitude that collecting world stamps for the juvenile fun of it all keeps me sane and collecting Ireland obsessively drives me crazy. I am therefore a well-balanced person.

I used to have a "collecting" blog until about three months ago and might do that kinda thing again. I miss being opinionated.

I wonder whether you collect the Spoorwegen/Railway letter stamps of the Netherlands.
They are nice group, and have some interesting postal history associated with their use.

A comment/suggestion:
Collecting some facet of the stamps of countries you have been in can be
a great way to retain and develop your appreciation of those places, their
people, their culture and their languages... That would nicely match with
your style of collecting "just about anything I like... "

Hi, I’m David from the UK. I’ve collected stamps since I was a boy, on and off. Now I’m the experienced side of 50. Recently I rediscovered my collecting mojo having read a couple of articles on the Irish SOAR stamps, which I am hooked by (and the thread on here is brilliant, thanks guys if you read this).

Now....off to explore the boards further......see you later.

Welcome to Stampboards. I too rediscovered an interest in stamps (instead of/as well as old postcards) thanks to the Irish SOAR stamps, which are endlessly fascinating. And yes, the thread here is just marvellous.
Enjoy your collecting.

Thanks to the few whom responded to my initial intro posts. A very warm welcome... ;)
I've made some (what I thought, personally) helpful posts for spotting overprint forgeries & illustrated some of the tips I learned on these posts. Hopefully others will find them useful. Not sure HOW to get them noticed & critiqued but this board is loaded with expert advice at all levels.

Welcome Old Architect. Some great posts already.

As to getting them noticed - a new post will bring a thread to the top obviously. In addition to that, post in an existing thread e.g. "ebay forgeries" etc. or start a separate thread if you have a lot to post on one topic e.g. "Third Reich Forgeries".

That will keep the info together and help it get noticed.

Hello! Michael here from the United States. I started collecting coins, and then I realized that I could get stamps with coins on them, plus stamps with all of my other interests, and so here I am. Been looking around and the one thing I've figured out - there's a lot to do and see and read!

I actually own zero stamps at this point, but I'm sure that will change soon. For now I'm just reading and taking it all in. Happy to be here. Thanks!

There is plenty of overlap between philately and numismatics. Here are a couple of examples:

Thank you for sharing these, RogerE! Coins are what have me making the jump to stamps. Not to mention that (I think) the cost of collecting coins on stamps will be a little less cost prohibitive! Looking forward to checking out more of the stampboards forum.

Hi All

I started collecting NZ stamps in the mid 1960s, then also Australian stamps in the late 1960s. I stopped actively buying in the early 1980s. However, by then I had a large collection of MUH NZ stamps from 1910-1980s and similar for Australia, but with fewer MUH. This includes all the Health stamps and mini-sheets.

I also inherited two stamp collections, both contained stamps from 1910-1950 from around the world and these are in albums and not yet identified by me. From my mother, I inherited NZ stamps and FDC coving up to the late 1940s and from my father-in-law I inherited Australian Mint and MUH sheets of Kangaroos and a couple of other pre-decimal sheets. Also over 100 corner blocks of 4 stamps with printer identification in the selvedge, all pre-decimal and either MH or MUH. Now I am trying to get them from their paper envelopes into some longer-term storage, stock sheets etc.

Hello Gremlin in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Welcome to Stampboards :D

We don't normally need another gremlin in the works, but we'll make an exception for you ;)

Those marginal blocks of four you describe are imprint blocks. That was a popular format
for collecting Australian stamps in the predecimal era. Many collectors feel that multiples
are more visually appealing than singles, and when the multiple comes with extra information
in the form of markings on an attached part of the selvedge, so much the better.
