Hello and welcome to David88 fro Birmingham, UK.

Bit by bit is the best way to progress in stamp collecting...
Browse widely for information. Stampboards is a good source, but there are many other sources you should keep in mind —
• your local library;
• your local stamp club (when Covid constraints allow you to engage face-to-face, but by phone in the meantime);
• browse eBay (just watch and learn, at least for a while);
• Websites of philatelic societies;
• Online exhibitions, such as
https://www.ausvipex2020.com.au/
http://www.stampedia.net/stamp/exhibition/en

Don't be afraid to ask questions! A well-phrased question is half way to a solution :D

Hello everyone, I joined a few days ago. Read all the rules, (hopefully I'll remember them all because I don't want to make that moderator mad  . Anyway, I consistently read that one should start a new thread/topic/message, not sure the lingo, when wanting to post pics so that the experts here could help me identify, etc the items I need help with, which are quite a few. My problem is I don't know how to do that, start a new thread. In the FAQ it said to click 'new topic's but I don't see that anywhere. Help please. And thank you :D

Hi everyone, my name is Vincent, and I'm from Belgium. I'm pretty new in the stamps world. I recently obtained some old collection from a deseased neighbour, with a lot of stamps (mostly put in envelopes with the country name on it). There are a lot of them, and I hope to find some knowledge about them, here in this forum. Greetings

Hello Vincent = Vince9630 in Munkzwalm, Belgium.
Welcome to Stampboards :D

As a beginner to stamp collecting, you are looking for advice and guidance about
progressing into the hobby.

Other newcomers to the hobby are among those who have posted their introductions
in this "Hello All NEW Members" thread. The welcoming replies that have been posted
by established members do contain various helpful suggestions and links.

May I suggest that you browse through earlier posts in this thread, and look at the
advice given to new members, particularly those declaring themselves to be novices.
I'm sure you will find good advice among those posts, as well as giving you a perspective
on what others think is good advice! ;)

As a footnote, may I applaud AMark on his recent posts giving clear, detailed help to
reymar2k about starting a new thread. This is the quality of helpful advice that our
newcomers can hope for (and frequently receive!). :D

Our friendly member turtle-bienhoa has recently decided
to welcome new members in his first language ;)
I'm guessing he hopes those wishing to understand his greetings will use Google Translate.
As a "friendly spoiler", I'm going to short-cut that process ;)

Hello!, Hello!, Hello!, Hello!

nước BỉBelgium

Some related translations:

nước Ấn ĐộIndia

Any comments, turtle-bienhoa?

(I was going to put this post in the Stamps and Languages thread, but another
post recently added there is in the wrong thread, so I'm hoping Admin relocates
it before further posts are added there. As an alternative location for these
Vietnamese translations, this thread is a suitable one to discuss the welcome posts.)

Hello,

my name is Tobias and I have been collecting stamps for about 30 years. My grandfather was an stamps enthusiast - I think that was the main reason for me, to became also a collector.
Later, I took over the collection of my grandfather that mainly consists of German stamps, envelopes, postcards etc.

Meanwhile, I am especially interested in the following areas:
- Zeppelin / airship post
- German airmail 1919-1945
- History of the German border (until 1990)

Best regards from Germany
Tobias

There are some strange looking stamps. This is one of my favourites (although I usually prefer recess printed issues of the 1935 - 1965 era). This one was issued in 1999.

I hope you enjoy browsing Stampboards, there are some very knowledgeable and helpful philatelists here. Sometimes you might find someone being a bit blunt (or even perhaps seeming rude) but that will usually be because that's normal in their culture (i.e. Australian  ) so don't be put off.

Syllogism:
A. Some Stampboarders are blunt.
B. Some Stampboarders are Australian.
C. Therefore Australians are blunt. ;)

Second Syllogism:
A. Some syllogisms are valid.
B. No "alternative truths" are valid.
C. Therefore some syllogisms are not "alternative truths".

When did logic/rhetoric disappear from the school curriculum?

And of course, welcome to danico80 in Northampton, UK.

my short introduction

Post by dancux »

Hi everyone,
I am dancux from Cuxhaven, Germany.

I have been a stamp collector for quite a while, but was not active for quite a while. Now I want to become more active again.

My main interests are:

US stamps
first flight covers (FFC)
covers returned to sender (RTS)

When travelling (especially in the US) I like to visit post offices and I will take a picture of the post office, get their postmark and have a chat with the postmaster.

I am very happy that I discovered this board and look forward to exchange with you.

Hello to new Stampboards members
stef, in Etters, Pennsylvania, USA
dancux, in Cuxhaven, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Some shared information about where these two new members live:

• I learnt that Etters is actually "Goldsboro" but is the officially preferred postal designation ;)
Wikipedia wrote:Goldsboro (formerly Goldsborough) is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 952 at the 2010 census. For historical reasons, the post office in Goldsboro is named "Etters" even though there is no incorporated place known by that name, and the United States Postal Service (USPS) states that the name "Etters" is preferred over "Goldsboro" for addressing mail to ZIP code 17319

• I learnt that Cuxhaven is on the North Sea Coast, close to the Heligoland archipelago:
Google wrote:Cuxhaven is a seaside town on Germany’s North Sea coast. Brightly coloured shelters dot its sandy beach. The Kugelbake, a wooden navigational tower, stands at the mouth of the Elbe River. The UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Centre Cuxhaven has a nature trail and exhibits on the area’s tidal flats and wildlife. The port is a gateway to the nearby tidal island of Neuwerk and the small Heligoland archipelago

Hi, I'm Rolcsi from Germany. I've been collecting stamps for 30+ years. I collect stamps from nearly every country.

I have most of Germany (obviously) and Australia. I have tens of thousands of spares from both these countries that I have been accumulating. I am not actively selling them but they are for sale if anyone's interested. I do not pick, would only send a one kilo mixture at a time. In case anyone's interested.

I keep my own stamps in 60- or 64-page large stockbooks with black pages. I have about 50 of these "full". I say "full" because my rule is the keep likes 2, 4, 6, and 8 on every page empty so there is no overlapping. Also I do not squash stamps behind one another, so each page contains about 20 stamps on average. The stamps are sorted by continent, then by country in alphabetical order, then chronologically.

I also like to collect France and Italy. I have thousands of spare old mint Italy stamps for sale.

I do not collect CTOs, except Mongolia (cuz they're nice). I do collect Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Russia. I have abandoned collecting Czechoslovakia, Romania and a few similar countries as they take up too much space and they're worthless for the most part, too many CTOs. Will probably abandon Poland and Bulgaria soon as well.

I prefer using Michel, I think it's the best catalogue. I also have 5 volumes of the 2008 Stanley Gibbons on my bookshelf and the 2017 Scott on my PC.

All that said, I'm no stamp expert, I have very superficial background knowledge of stamps. I'm just an aspie with OCD who likes to sort through boxes of off-paper kiloware and "glory boxes".

Nice to be here on this forum.
