Brummie

Actually I did pick them (bad taste personified?), they were much nicer than the ones available from the National Health Service (black or brown solid plastic frames, available for a few shillings), these were private frames (which cost only a few pounds).

Everyone in England (pretty much at that time) had the National Health Service pay for the lenses though.

Kindest regards, Richard

Just in case I should become a famous dancer one day, I thought I should give you the opportunity to say that you knew it would happen. I'm the one on the left, doing the Gangnam Style with my daughter.

Thanks 'Brummie' and 'Margoz'. Actually visiting Sydney in about 4 weeks time. Is a work trip with little spare time but hope to connect with another stamp collector while there. Must pick up those two new aircraft stamps that have been issued by Australia Post.

For her sake I hope you are right! And as the picture only shows the way I present myself, then 14 is pretty accurate. The face adds the other 15 years.

You already know what I look like, but let me show you my new puppy Charlie.
Adopted from an animal shelter in Kitimat, BC Canada. Breed? Unknown and who cares? Cute, smart, friendly and playful....what more can you wish for? I am beginning to think he does not like his dog food or treats, but prefers human food, especially cheese and sausages. :D

Yes, Philexx, way too nice of a dog. He is one more thing to worry about and spend money on. Just had a visit to the vet today. $160 is gone for a regular check up and a couple of shots. I bought him two new toys that he enjoyed for 1 day before he ripped them apart. It was fun watching him play with them though. Then he starts picking up dead salmon by the river and chewing on them, barking at invisible bears, running into the bush....so many things to get worried about, but he seems happy! :D

As to fish, the first time I fed him salmon, his stomach couldn't digest it. I will try again when he grows up. He is 7 months old now; don't expect him to get bigger than that.

What gorgeous scenery and what a great looking pup.

Kudos to you for rescuing a dog from a shelter as well, you likely saved his life.

If he's 7 months I'd say he should get bigger, my Spaniel-Lab mix is now almost 18 months and at the vet today for some booster shots we noticed that he was a few pounds heavier.

Be careful with the human food, especially cooked meats, higher fat meats can give them pancreatitis.

To add to Glen's comments on Jean-Jacques Tillard of St. Pierre and Miquelon, Jean-Jacques had at least two exhibits at the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada convention in Halifax last May and won several prizes. His St. Pierre exhibit was amazing and, if I remember correctly, was bested only by Ron Brigham's exhibit of the Canada 1908 Quebec Tercentenary issue.

Someone told me at the show that St. Pierre & Miquelon's stamp club has 60 members; not bad for a community of 6,000.

Wow Jules! Those pictures are amazing, seems like a slice of heaven. I love the ones in which Charlie is jumping across and sitting. Don't his paws get numb in the snow?

Here's me on one of my solo cycling trips. This trip was for two days. The weather was great.

we have woken to a gorgeous sunny day
Make the most of it.

I remember spending a nice sunny day in Dublin once - I have a photo somewhere of mechanical diggers perched precariously on top of a building that was being demolished set against clear blue skies.

It (spending a nice sunny day in Dublin) has never happened again and the day after the blue skies the weather was back to normal; blowing a gale and tipping it down with rain.

Maybe it is just us who attracts the bad weather .... or maybe not.

Fare thee well!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind!

I also spent only one day in Dublin - in 1952!

I spent most of the summer in the Isle of Man - my mother's
birthplace. One day we went on a day trip to Dublin. I don't
remember much, but I do remember going to the GPO to buy
some of the current stamps - and having absolutely no idea of
the historical significance of the building.

One of life's great constants...a bar where pints of Guinness sit resting in rows, part filled before the final top-up.

In a Chicago bar I was offered a pitcher of the 'black stuff'....I never went back.

A man after my own heart :D

The cans here are fitted with 'Draughtflow' system...works pretty well but the taste is nasty.

I do make exceptions though; having once dated the daughter of a former Guinness Nigeria brewery manager I was enlightened by their 7.5% bottled 'Foreign Extra Stout'....worth looking out for.

Guinness is only worth drinking in Ireland. It doesn't travel well, it's just not the same anywhere else, even in Irish pubs.

In general that's true, though Kilians in Munich always served decent Guinness and was good for an Irish breakfast too.
There are bars in Dublin where the Guinness is not great - the best though is McDaids, period.

In an effort to drag this thread kicking and screaming back on topic, I shall be meeting our illustrious Oz travellers this arvo (see what I did there?)...they are currently soaking up the sights of Newgrange and we'll be meeting them later for (cough) coffee....pictures to follow.

We again had the pleasure of Glen and Margo's company on Sunday afternoon; we met for coffees at Newgrange not far from our house.

If only I had recorded the conversation in the car as my young sons practiced their "G'Day mate" and Skippy noises in readiness for meeting Glen...hilarious. The kids really took to Glen and Margo and have pestered me since to plan a trip to Oz.

Here's everyone (post fizzy orange drink explosion!); Glen, yours truly, Isaac, Margo and my wife Cathriona - Chris my other son took this great picture.
