The sun is shining in Melbourne. :D

We are having a day of respite from the heat today, with a forecast maximum of a pleasant 24C. Back to high 30s by mid next week though (it was 38C here yesterday).

What we badly need is rain. There are many bushfires across large areas of Australia at the moment; with Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales the worst hit States.

I went outside about 6:00AM to grab the paper - and it was HOT, so I checked the weather channel, and at 6:30AM this morning it was 29.7 C. That is higher than today's top temperature was supposed to be.

What an odd summer we are having. Off to work!

Good afternoon! Finally, the Rain has come back to Geelong.

After a record period of non-rain fall (37 days without any rain at all), I am presently observing a wonderful Thunder Storm - I love Summer Thunder Storms, except:

Foxtel does not love thunder storms, so, as per normal, you get an error message, and no transmission just a screen on your TV which says "Satellite transmission interrupted". So no TV.

Anyway, then the power went off, so Foxtel's hissy fit no longer mattered. I had nothing. This was half way through reading an interesting thread.

The power was off for less than five minutes, but now I have to go around, and reset 4 digital clocks, the time on my Microwave and the time on my DVD player. These things really ought to have at least minimal battery back up.

But, the rain, is very, very welcome, as little as it is turning out to be - it is passing already, and is leaving behind a warm steamy afternoon/evening. At present, half of Australia seems to be flooded, and the other half is on fire. Just a typical Australian Summer of late.

And I am not really bitching - 15 minutes of inconvenience at the most - I would not live anywhere else.

BUCKETING with rain here too - and I'm not complaining, the garden was very dry - and with water meters now installed we have to pay for water usage per litre... Not long ago it was free.

The rain is very welcome here!

I love the smell of it too - makes everything fresh.

No power outages though, luckily because explaining a power outage to customers in the cafe gets very annoying - they get angry that they can't be served - EVERYTHING runs off electricity, inlcuding all of the point of sale equipment!

Trying to explain to some people that coffee is made using a machine which runs off electricity is like beating your head into a wall sometimes.

Hope everyone is well. :D

I certainly hope the rain gets as far as the eastern suburbs of Melbourne! Very dry here.

I just had a look at the rain radar. Looks like it will be slipping to the south of us.

Good evening all from dry and sunny Perth!

I've been away from the boards for awhile, well, about three years, but am back into my stamps/covers.

In that time I've had my first daughter, Sophie, and my wife and I have settled down in Yangebup in our first home.

Looks like a lot of new faces to meet and am looking forward to asking a million questions, and getting to know some old faces again.

Enough for now, I'm off outside to crank up the barby, crack a cold 'un, and catch the last rays of light :)

Crazy busy at work in January, but hopefully February will be slightly more relaxed....at least I'm not working weekends this month!

Weather has picked up a little, I even got to enjoy a beer on the rooftop on Friday night and watch the sunset.

I'm beginning to realize that my trip to Australia is not too far away....I hope to meet many Stampboards members in Melbourne.....looking forward to it :D

At 4:45 am it is 22C here in Melbourne, after a 38C day yesterday. We are in for a cool change today, only going to get to 33C.

What we badly need is some decent rain. The fires that started weeks ago in the ranges are still burning (although currently inside containment lines) and this weather (it is very dry with low humidity and a northerly wind) means no chance of completely eliminating them.

Malaysian time : 6.00 pm.

Happy New Year to all those celebrating Chinese New Year as we slither into the year of the water snake tomorrow. Stamps have been in the back burner for the past few days due to family responsibilities, i.e., spring cleaning and all. It is almost time for our cherished reunion dinner, so here is a thought ...

It's been a little cooler here today, only 29 Celsius. I've spent nearly the whole day clearing rampant Hawthorn trees from the roadside so I can build a new fence. Hopefully, soon I'll be able to stop the oats from getting out onto the road.

Finally it is too dark to do any more, thank goodness, so I've just recovered in front of the TV watching the bushfires up in Muruk's country which they say will be a problem for at least another month.

We had rain forcast for tomorrow but it has been updated to "chance of precipitation 0%. We ran out of rain water in the tank a month ago so I bought and installed a filter system and now we are using the spring on the property. This spring has never run dry in living memory so we should be fine.

Now for some stamps.
Where do the years go? I went from philandering to philately and didn't even notice.

John, dry across the whole of Victoria (unlike parts north!). I was out on the bowling green this afternoon and saw Elvis flying over, on the way to the fires up in the high country.

Just in case anyone thinks I went mad in the sun, Elvis is a large water bombing helicopter that is leased during the fire season (one of 2 similar large helicopters here in Victoria).

Happy New Year from South Korea too!

One advantage of working here is that I get to celebrate Jan 1st new year holiday and the lunar calendar holiday too :D

And talking of holidays, on May 3rd I'll be in Sydney on the first day of my Ozadventure!

Flight booked from Busan(despite the usual wrestling with internet security/credit card). Have to arrange flights to Melbourne and Brisbane now.

Tiger airlines for $42+ fees, Jetstar $68, or Virgin $79 what would you recommend?

Jetstar is fine, owned by QANTAS. I would steer clear of Tiger, personally. The flight from Sydney to Melbourne is, from memory, about 90 minutes. Hardly at cruising altitude than you are on the way down again. :D

I think for peace of mind I'll go with Jetstar... Aussie workmates have told me some hairy stories of Tiger Air

I should arrive in Melbourne on the 9th and stay for 8 or 9 days. Hopefully I'll meet many Stampboards members at the big show. Looking forward to it :D

It's Student's test day! So I can read and post on Stampboards, while my students write an essay, and get paid for it :D :D :D

It has turned cold again over here in Busan, but the sun is shining. A 'shiny day' as my students would say. I like that expression :D

I hope everyone on Stampboards has a shiny day!

Cheers.

Feel sorry for Oz, but us here in Kiwiland are enjoying the summer from heaven, we have had 4 days of rain this whole year and all of them were like a few hours of it. We have just had sunny day after sunny day. Its been a warm 25 or 26 most days, a chillier 23 some days and a boiling 28 on a couple of days.

The weather is settled and sunny and Kiwis all throughout Auckland are just loving it, no rain until March is the forecast. Yet no real water shortages yet.

Good morning from the 530 bus halfway between Yangebup and Cockburn Central!

Princestamps, I'm glad to hear the rain is awaiting our first trip home in about 3 years. We'll be showing off the 6 month old to her grandparents in Whangaparaoa for a week in March.

Cheers,

Good whatever... I:30ish AM and the heat has kept me awake most of the night. I am going to try to go to bed and get some sleep again but it is still 29C in my unit, and we have at least another week of 30C+ days ahead of us. Really looking forward to Autumn actually starting.

Hot and I do not mix too well these days.

Good afternoon from sunny Oxford, New Zealand. The clouds are trickling over the mountains out my window but it is bright and clear and still. It feels like 30C in the sun and about 10C in the shade. The grass is not as green as I remember.

Cheers,

Ewen :)

Thought this might be a fun idea. I did search several times to try and find something like this with no luck.

If you are online and want someone to chat with, do so here. Post a thought, what you are working on (in your collection), or whatever else might be on your mind.

The goal would be to have an open chat room that any member can 'chat' with others; everyone can see the conversation and chime in.

It could be fun....

Hot in AUS= Cold in U.S. I am expecting anywhere from 8-25 CM of snow over the next 24 hours. Have a few flurries now, but it is not sticking yet. Do you guys even get snow in the land down under?

Yep- we get snow. This is our highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko 7,310 ft. We were in Peru recently and were asked several times about our highest mountain in Australia.

The locals were very dismissive about poor old Mt Kosciuszko when we told them!

However, despite the meagre height of our mountains we do get a quite a bit of snow on them:

Snowfall covers an area of about 1400 sq. km in the Snowy Mountains area of New South Wales for a period of two months or more per year but snow depth is variable.

Winter recreation in NSW is centred around the 5 alpine skiing resorts and the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority depends on the melt water run-off to generate electricity.

Similarly, Victoria has a skiing and hydro-electricity industry depending on snowfall.

The forecast is for another 4 days of over 30 temperatures in Melbourne, following on from the straight 6 we have already had. Wednesday is forecast to be 37. That will be a new record for consecutive days over 30 in March. There is a suggestion of rain on Thursday, but I will believe it when I see it!

Hi there Peter from Melbourne,

My husband just left Kuching, Malaysia yesterday for a trip to Melbourne. He was asking me if he needed a jacket! I guess not then!

The weather has moderated, with sub 30 temperatures (today is forecast to be 29 and fine). There is some rain forecast from tomorrow, but not a lot. It is, however, much cooler at night now. Down to 13 to 15 each night (makes sleeping much easier!).

Autumn in Melbourne really is the most pleasant part of the year, mid-20s till May as a general rule.

I hate this day. Woke up at my normal time, and it took over an hour to twig - Daylight Savings ended today and I was up at 4:30 in the morning. On a Sunday! It's not even 8:30 yet, and I feel like I have been up forever.

On a more pleasant note, had a lovely Marinara last night at the local Pizza shop.

Good morning from the train, on it's merry way to Glendalough. The train is packed today and I have made it all the more uncomfortable due to the pungent odour emanating from my lunch bag. Today I have blue cheese and onion toasted sandwiches
