1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
Always picked a few up here and there as a kid and teenager but never really focused on a collection until I discovered mourning covers as an adult.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
19th century Mourning Covers.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Mourning covers!

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Counting reading and browsing through online collections, etc. about 15 hours a week - only around 5 hours messing with my actual covers.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Mainly 19th century culture, also violin (though I'm not very good at it) & geology fascinates me.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Wings of Desire

7. What is your favorite stamp?
Really more interested in covers but I do tend to instantly fall in love with any stamp that has a big inky Maltese Cross cancel on it.

8. What is your favorite food?
Ethiopian

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Yea, when I start typing on my 'smart' phone and it corrects my words for me mid-sentence. It likes to auto-change stuff like you're to your because it doesn't wait to see the context in the FULL sentence (did that last night in an email). It once even changed the word "better" to "litter" (probably due to cat litter being a frequent word on my phone shopping list). Funny thing was, it was in a text to my friend who was telling me about her her OB appointment and finding out that she was having twins...she was like "huh? it's only two, hardly a litter." Really though, I make enough of my own typos without the phone helping out.

10. What is your professional background?
BFA - Experimental studies & BS in Psychology. (With a BFA being a 5 year 'broad spectrum' degree, they don't allow a minor, thus the double major in psychology). MFA - Painting. Then an MEd. Some other random post-grad work in Aesthetics.

So, to support my painting I went to work as an herbalist doing herb-drug interaction stuff in a pharmacy and became certified in that. Then about the time I could support myself full-time painting, I opened a small business instead (herb related). Which is far less stressful (and socially demanding) than dwelling on art all the time, although I do still get obsessive with painting from time to time.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
It may be different on another day but since I could really use some fun right now - going with Alan Rickman. :D

12. What is your favorite TV show?
The Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
My dear friend (iomoon) told me about it.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Champagne.

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Edward Ka-Spel.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
I guess every mourning cover that I found appealing. Oh, and a penny black just because I have never had one...though probably not an expensive one, just any one would make me happy.

Only just found this thread. Some interesting responses, but one thing I did notice was the number of collectors who started young, had a break then got back into the hobby.

Me too.

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
My first recollection was collecting the AIF stamps during WW2. Dad was away at the war and I think it was my mum who generated the interest. I was about 6 at the time and I continued with the hobby until I was 14 or 15.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
All world. Anything that looks loke it may have been stuck on a stamp.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
A difficult question. Perhaps Germany mainly due to the aura that surrounds Hitler and German occupations
4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
My physical hobby is Orienteering (and Yes there have been stamps depicting Orienteering) and my only other 'hobby' is keeping my wife happy and content because that allows me to work on my stamps.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Many and varied, mainly comedies, but the one film that sticks in my memory is 'Leningrad'.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
Don't have a favorite. They are all 'friends'

8. What is your favorite food?
Again, many and varied but Calzone with a thin crispy crust leaves me weak but satisfied as long as there is ample beer to wash it down.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Oh yes I do. It is mainly against those fraudsters and corrupt politicians, bankers etc who drive 'idiots (to quote an earlier poster) out in the streets to riot and protest.

10. What is your professional background?
Again, many and varied but 2 themes. 25 years military service as an engineer officer, followed by 18 years as a Building Manager of a national institution. Architect and engineer.
11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?

12. What is your favorite TV show?
BBC /Russia Today ews services

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
I was surfing the internet and located StampBoard as a Philatelic Chat Room

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Food. What else would you expect?

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Louis Armstrong- the one and only musician. The rest are second-rate, particularly Madonna, Cher and like ilk

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
Whatever is in the next auction.

Questions you haven't asked

17 Are you interested in meeting other Stampboard posters?
Yes. The next time I am in the UK (or if I slip back to Oz) I would expect an invite the next Stampboard Get together) Invitations awaited.

18 Would you be interested in a major swap convention?
Yes, my wife tells me I have to clear out my 4-500,000 spares so there is more room for her shoes.

19 Are you interested in being part of a lobby group to pressure Postal Authorities to return to the original aims of the postage stamp- that is, a sticky label to show that a fee has been made for a service- and so restrict the number of issues every year most of which would now fail the 'genuine postal use' test
YES PLEASE.

Just found this thread, so I will open up.
The one common thread through these posts is the number of collecters who started early, left the hobby and then returned.

Me too

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
While dad was away at the war (WW2) mum collected his mail and I finished up with (mainly) the common AIF issues but it took me quite a while to get the full series. I kept collecting until I was 14 or 15 and then discovered

...girls.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
Anything that might have had gum on it..and lift your minds up a bit with your thoughts about that answer

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Many and varied but I think I would have to go with Germany, manily because of all the occupation issues and despite what the laws saw, there still is a fascination with Hitler and the Nazi era.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
About 10-14 on stamps and 20 or so on Stampboards much to my wife's dismay because she would prefer to be out looking at shoes,

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
My only other hobby is Orienteering and yes, there ar 13 stamps worldwide which feature Orienteering. My only other aim in life is to keep my wife content, because if she is content I can sit in front of the computer and 'veg out' with the othe GOM.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Many and varied, mainly comedies but the one single movie that stands out in my memory is 'LENINGRAD'

7. What is your favorite stamp?
Again, many and varied but I would have to say..the last one I identified and put into my collection

8. What is your favorite food?
Again, many and varied. BUT a real calzone with crispy thin crust washed doen by a good beer is almost impossible to top.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Oh do I ever. To refer back to a previous poster, my peeve is against the fraudsters, the thieves, the manipulators who have driven the 'idiots' out on the street to burn and confront and protest.

10. What is your professional background?
Bloody hell! Many and varied..again.
2 main threads. 25 years in the Oz army (Corps of Royal Australian Engineers) followed by 18 years as the Building Manager of a national institution. Qualified as an Architect, military enginering and Post-graduate studies in Recreational Planning.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
My father. He was killed when I was 11. The 5 years between his return from WW2 and his death were the happiest years of my life.

12. What is your favorite TV show?
I think it is a tie between Mash and BBC/Russia Today news services

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
I was surfing the net looking for a stamp chat room.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Food

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Louis Armstrong. Are there other musicians?

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
What is on offer?

There are a couple of questions missing

17 Are you interested in being part of a lobby group to pressure Postal Authorities into reducing the number of issues so that stamps can be classified as genuinely termed 'for postal use'
YES PLEASE

18 Are you interested in regional and worldwide Stampboard meetings?
YES PLEASE

19 Are you interested in compiling a central pool of stamps available for swap or sale?
YES PLEASE

20 Are you interested in keeping Glen in business?
Yes I am, someone would have to co-ordinate the pool and so it is only right that, like financial markets, the 'manager' gets a percentage

Hi! Returned to the stampboard after a very long absence. Well, it's water under and over the bridge as per usual in Queensland.

1 - Started collecting at primary school for the first and short time. Took it up for real when I arrived in Australia in the 60s and after a small break during the 80s, I am back!

2 - I collect too many countries (according to my spouse) and it is true: Australia (used and mint), Greece (used to 1954 money change) and mint from then to 2000. Then all used: Canada, Great Britain including Machins, India, Ireland, Latvia, Papua New Guinea, Switzerland, USA including precancels, USSR (from the 40s on), some small definitives from Japan, Germany and Austria, Diamond and Triangle shapes, natural fruits, and other "small fry".

3 - I have no favourites as all are equally frustrating to find, especially with nice round cancellations.

4 - What do you mean how much time I spend on this hobby? I am retired, so it's pretty much full on!

5 - I enjoy football, the one with the round ball and legs and heads being used? Especially the English Premier League. And the occasional movie or TV series. Being with family and friends cannot be beat, ever!

6 - Favourite movie! Now, that's a poser but I'm afraid I cannot answer it... Unless it's a comedy, with the likes of Cary Grant, Tony Curtis and others from the old school where "funny" was really funny and witty not swearing and body functions.

7 - I do not have a favourite stamp. If I did, it would probably be an old time one, before the "photographic" representations of today.

8 - All the food I cook fits the favourite category. Why cook anything else?

9 - Pet peeve! Yes! POs promoting stamp collecting and then producing enough stamps to drown you in. Never mind the machine cancellations and the immovable gum!

10 - Used to be a high school teacher - English and Geography, now retired.

11 - Nelson Mandela is one dude I would like to meet!

12 - NCIS for now is the TV show I would still watch happily. Can't stand reality TV. I lived it in my classrooms and had enough of it ...

13 - It was so long ago, I forget, but always had some contact with the "boss".

14 - Water, Adam's Ale will always be in the fridge!

15 - My favourite musician is Vassilis Tsitsanis (deseased) and George Dalaras, the "nightingale"

16 - Something expensive to leave my children as a legacy.
Always a pleasure

Well, here I go :

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
My English teacher in school (I was about 15) made us contact pupils in other (English speaking) countries via "school letter".
When I received the first answering letter from Pakistan, my father who was collecting, grabbed for the envelope and I complained because I saw the letter as mine only. So dad decided to call his collection "our" collection and we started into philatelics together. Unfortunately dad fell sick just a few years after and died with 61 years. From then on I collected more or less, depending on the time I had.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
The 3 Baltic countries, Argentina, Chili, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela as for countries, my topic is stamps on stamps.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
stamps on stamps

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Being retired, about 20 to 40, depending on the weather.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Reading, bike tours along rivers, (last not least) caring for my wife

6. What is your favorite movie?

7. What is your favorite stamp?
GB one penny black + Bavaria number 1

8. What is your favorite food?
Oysters with black buttered bread and white sparkling wine

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Groups of skittle-players travelling together - they are loud and mostly drunk. Something similar are Dutch or Scandinavian groups travelling in wine countris.

10. What is your professional background?
Accounts - first as a beginner, then with diploma, later IT for accounting

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
My grandmother in her 40s ... she died 8 years before I was born

This has been such a fun read!!!

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I seem to remember stamps always being around but only got really interested when I was about 14 or so! My Dad took me to my first ever Stamp Club meeting and I won the door-prize! A brand new 1966 Scott's Catalogue!...which he claimed as his! but it was my ticket that won!!! I've been hooked ever since!

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
Silly question for me! I try to stick to Australia, Canada and New Zealand...but the rest of the world is my oyster!!

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Anything that looks like a stamp! Especially if it's pre-1980's...well preferably pre-1950's...but I'll take whatever is available!

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
That's a scary question! How about...waking hours in between work, house keeping and some cooking!

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
 You mean there are other things out there besides stamps??????
Yes, of course, we also collect coins and are avid readers and have a "library" of almost 5,000 books covering almost any subject you can think of! We've just started downsizing the books, as we know our kids will probably take the lot to the tip when we "fall off the perch" as someone here so quaintly put it!

6. What is your favorite movie?
Have a couple, but Starman would be the one I would watch...if I could stay awake long enough!

7. What is your favorite stamp?
Easy! All of them!

8. What is your favorite food?
Anything I don't have to cook myself! After that...dark chocolate!!!!

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Mainly, it would have to be a real lack of manners in the young kids! And, sorry, but that comes straight back to the parents! A simple please and thank you is not hard! It should be second nature to the kids...or even a rort response...but at least it's said! Common courtesy!

10. What is your professional background?
Well, I can probably call myself a Jill (as opposed to a Jack) of all trades! I have worked everywhere from Kidney Research, Veterinary assistant, dairy farmer, rural mail delivery, motel cleaner, newsagent, takeaway cook, school bus driver, mother and grandmother! Good grief! That's nearly enough to qualify for a book!!!

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet
Well, I've already met Prince Phillip aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia to recieve the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Medal so I won't be greedy and I'll say I'm happy with what I have!

12. What is your favorite TV show?
I don't watch a lot of TV. But if I do, my fave shows would be Antiques Road Show (no longer on our chanels  ) Big Bang Theory and very occassionally, I watch CSI.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
My hubby actually found this site while trying to find some stamps for me!

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Always left overs and all sorts of cheese..and the stray bottle of wine... :D

15. Who is your favorite musician?
I love Glen Miller and the Beatles...there are a lot of other bands I really like as well. Does anyone remember Radar Love???

I just love the songs you can actually sing along with!

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
Don't even tempt me with a comment like that!!!!!!!!

Anne
I am having fun collecting WW and Indian States.

Nice thread, I've red everyone of the posts. Here I go:

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I told in another post. When a child, I said my father "I'm bored" so he gave me some covers, explain a little, and said "here you got something to do". I never said "I'm bored" again.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
World Wide simplified, I cannot say "no" to a stamp.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Old Stamps. (I call "old" to the ones up to 1960. Don't ask why, I don't know)

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Better don't ask.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Riding my motorbike, reading essays.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Mmmm...I don't like Cinema very much, I could say "Stand by me", "Casablanca", "Terminator", "Saving private Ryan" are great movies. I could not see "The Lord of the Rings" (I felt slept) and Woody Allen makes me sick.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
This one: Image
I remember when, years after I got the stamp, arriving St.Michel was appearing little by little in horizon. I could not get the stamp off my mind, thinking "it's real, it's real!!!" And it was even more magic than the stamp.

8. What is your favorite food?
Roasted MEAT with frenchies and tomatto & onion salad. Hate fish and boiled vegetables.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?

I'll take a swing at it ... be a good post for my 10th woohoo 8)

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting? as a youth; like many I earned the scouting stamp collecting merit badge & seemingly like many, I didn't do much collecting for about 30 years after that. I have, unfortunately, recently divorced, and having time on my hands and boxes and boxes of junk to sort through, came across an old lighthouse stockbook containing the remnants of my youthful stamp collection... and thought "hey why not?" and have been buying rather too many stamps ever since ...

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect? when I began collecting I mainly focused on US stamps, and had a pretty good collection ... unfortunately much of it disappeared over the years ... my one stockbook had enough to make a nice beginning on a US album, but I felt like branching out, and after some reading decided to go with "the classics" ... worldwide up to 1940 ... with a few topical interests as well, mainly science (astronomy, biology, scientists) and weapons (mainly ancient).

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect? right now I seem to be focused on eastern Europe & South America ... but after looking at some of the collections posted here on stampboards I'm sure I will be branching out ...

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby? 10-20 ... did I mentioned I have extra time on my hands?

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes? reading, science fiction, mysteries, I've recently started down the graphic novel path (which may become yet another obsession) ... I also like outdoor activities, hiking, car camping, astronomy, etc

6. What is your favorite movie? hard to pick just one, but maybe The Outlaw Josey Wales or Casablanca

7. What is your favorite stamp? hard to say ... let me get back to you ...

8. What is your favorite food? I really like good chinese food ...

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it? life's too short ...

10. What is your professional background? been teaching physics and biology for almost 25 years at the high school level ... I have two degrees in geology and an advanced degree in science education. I've found that I far prefer high school kids to college kids ...

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet? Richard Feynman, Robert Heinlein (although I've heard he was a bit of an ass ...), Ernest Hemingway ...

12. What is your favorite TV show? currently The Big Bang Theory

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards? Keijo Kortelainen's excellent stamp collecting blog http://www.stampcollectingblog.com/...

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator? beer

15. Who is your favorite musician? wow ... I want to say somebody really "knock your socks with my insight" special ... but Jimmy Buffett, Freddie Mercury, Shania Twain ...

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy? I'd try to buy all of them, but of course there aren't enough hours in the days of the remaining years of my life to even look at all of them, let alone collect, organize, mount, research, and spend time admiring ... but it would be fun to try!

I was sure that I had completed this once before but it doesn't matter because as we get older and grow, some of our earlier answers will have changed so here we go:

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I was sure that an Aunty had started me on this trail and a couple of years ago I was given that first album back again.
Sticky tape instead of hinges was not a very good idea at all although it seemed to be OK at the time

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
Has always been Australian but seem to have amassed quite a lot of other country issues.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
As my collection has developed, I am looking toward specialising in booklets (Australian) and selected issues such as the "Living Together "set.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Julie says TOO much but on average I would say 10 to 20 hours (maybe 40). :)

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
I am still renovating (11 years now!!) but am getting more and more in to wood and making furniture and toys. When you work on a piece of scrap timber and see the colour come out after the first coat of varnish or oil, it is hard to hold back and not rush things. (If you do not like the dark colourof a timber, use liming white as a first coat. This does stop pine for example yellowing).

6. What is your favorite movie?
The Emerald Forest for its initial pure indiginous beuty.
There are so many really. It depends on my mood at the time I suppose but anything that plucks the emotion strings.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
I am a bit embarressed but I cannot remember the year and my "Stamp Room" is upstairs and Julie is sleeping at the moment (1:12 in the morning) but it is the early 1980"s something Australia Day issue depicting a spray of Golden Wattle.
What I like about this stamp is its simplicity of design, use of complementory colours and its overall balance. If it were a painting I would more than gladly purchase it and proudly show it in a place of prominance in my home.

8. What is your favorite food?
Yes! (sadly)

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Complainers. Why can't they look for the good in things instead of continually focusing on the bad. Idiots!

10. What is your professional background?
Power Technician/Shift Team Leader at a Power Sation. (What does the little cross and minus line mean on each end of a battery????)

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
I have quite a lot of heroes actually who I would like to meet.
Two are Germain Greer for her sheer guts and determination to make the world equal and Raylene Boyle (I hope I spelt that right) because she went to the Tokyo Olympics (I think) when the Government didn't want to and paid her own way.

12. What is your favorite TV show?
At the moment Australia is developing an incredibly realistic series of series.
"Underbelly"
The acting is absolutely terrific and the casting and plots are just so realistic.
On the otherhand I like any of the cartoon type movies like Madagascar.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
I think it was after trying to identify a stamp on the computer.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Cheese. God made it to go with omelettes, pizzas, salads, toasted sandwiches, cellery, grilled tomatoes and of course red wine. :) :) :) :)

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Too many.
Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull, Jack Bruce from Cream, My neice Luella (check her out on the net Luella and the Blue Heelers), Jeff Beck, and so on as the mood changes.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
Australian Pre Federation (States), Roos,KGV and Booklets. There would also be the odd issue such as the 1 cent Cockatoo, lower denomination Alpine Wild Flowers and Eucalypts all used. (This leads toward my desire to specialise in booklets).

17. Ultimate wish?
To find and be able to give unconditional love.

Germaine Greer leaves me cold, but Raylene Boyle is one of the most under-estimated Oz athletes. She also is one of my 'heroes'. Her many battles with officialdom, and then breast cancer, and her outstanding athletic ability, should be an inspiration to us all.

PS. She represented Oz at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics and withdrew from the 1980 games after pressure from the Oz government. Tokyo from memory was 1964.

Her athletic career spanned about 14 years- not bad for a sprinter.

A great sportswoman and human being

Mazski,
Thanks for the reply.
Germain Greer may make you feel cold and I can understand that particularly of late but she did and still does make people think.
In her early years she fought to bring to light errors in the way women and people in general were treated and she didn't hold back in her views.
If it wasn't for her and people like her who put themselves out on a limb the rest of us would more than likely carry on with our own little lives not realising that what we are doing might be wrong.
These days with the internet and world wide web we are able to access all sorts of information on which we can build our values. When Germain started her campaign, she was trying to educate a much less informed population and it is the limb that she placed herself on that earns my admiration.
Cheers,
Frank (Electric Chook)
P.S. Raylene was good wasn't she? (and still is I might add).

I must agree with those comments re Germain Greer- and Raylene (I met her a few times at athletic meetings in Melbourne in the late 60's /early 70's)

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I started at age 10 when I checked a book out of the library about stamp collecting. After soaking off every stamp on every old letter in the house, I saved up for a small US album published by HE Harris. My grandmother in Japan got wind of my interest and had a friend send me a stock book full of mint and used stamps from all over the world, and I was hooked. I ended up with a Harris Senior Statesman album and started down the road of obsessive worldwide collecting. I gave up the hobby at age 17, but picked it up again at age 40. I have since moved to homemade albums (printed from Will Steiner's excellent stamp albums.com site) and have about 30 loose-leaf albums so far, adding a new one every couple of months. However, I still consider myself a worldwide collector, and I still enjoy that juvenile kick from filling in all the spaces on an album page.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
My primary interests are USA, Japan, and the British Commonwealth. However, I am easily distracted and will pick up a new country for a few weeks, and then move on. My only topical interest ar Scouting stamps, as I have been a volunteer leader in Scouting for most of my adult life.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
This week, it's Luxembourg, although I'm about to get my hands on a nice starter collection for Jersey. Who knows what I'll be collecting next month?

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
8-10 hours, usually an hour or at each sitting.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
I love to read science fiction, business self helps, and history. I am a huge fan of science fiction movies an television. I do a lot of outdoor camping and hiking, and I work as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Spartacus, starring Kirk Douglas, Lawrence Olivier, Peter Ustinov, Charles Laughton, and Jean Simmons. Lawrence of Arabia is a close second. I have a thing for epics.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow commemorative issued by the USA in the 1970s. The US Postal Service had an amazing advertising campaign on television that featured this stamp. When I found a copy on an envelope in my grandmother's bureau, you would think I had found the Holy Grail. I still have that very stamp today.

8. What is your favorite food?
I will try anything once. Asian food is my favorite, but constant variety is my true preference.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
People who are afraid to ask questions out of the fear of looking stupid. Smart people ask questions - always.

10. What is your professional background?
28 years in the travel industry - the first 15 were in call center operations and management, and the rest in IT Business Analysis and Project Management.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
Carl Sagan, the late astronomer and science populist. His books and documentary work taught me the pleasure of learning things just for the satisfaction of knowing them.

12. What is your favorite TV show?
Star Trek, just about any version.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
Google search, the Oracle of the Silicon Age.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Soy Sauce. Kikkoman, to be specific.

15. Who is your favorite musician?
James Pankow, trombonist of the American rock group Chicago. You have to admire a man who pioneered the art of the rock and roll trombone.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
All of them, and I'd buy them from Don Sundeman at Mystic Stamps just because I could finally afford their prices!

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?

1974. Came across my father's collection of Poland and world. Used, hinged stamps refecting wartime Europe and European colonialism.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?

In 1974 I started collecting Australia, and I continue to this day. Still have all of those stamps that I collected as a child. Must say that I regard the early 70s as an interesting period in Australian stamp design - as it was a 'groovy' era in other ways. Also have a small collection of Tasmania.

see Q2

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

?5

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?

Field naturalism, bushwalking, swimming.

6. What is your favorite movie?

Just watched Rocky Horror on Halloween. That was good. I suppose 'Four Queens' is a good stamp movie.

7. What is your favorite stamp?

I like the Tasmanian sidefaces of the 1870s -especially the 4d blue!

8. What is your favorite food?

Hard to beat pizza

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?

Google

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?

15. Who is your favorite musician?

I read that Freddie Mercury was a stamp collector - so I better give my vote to him. Hard to imagine him quietly sorting through stamps I must say.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

1d Tas courier, 4d blue sideface. The top three roos.

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?

When I was about 7 or 8... My dad would take me to the Naval base where he was assigned, originally because I played chess and he had two Grandmasters he worked with that he'd let teach me. One of whom had a stamp collection out and let me look it over, and I was hooked (he was the one that would clean my clock on the chessboard, and show no mercy even against a kid. the other would give me a 'fighting chance", even though he knew he'd win). It just so happened my grandparents were visiting so they bought me a huge amount of them, and then started sending me British stamps and first day covers.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?

Any and all... if I can ever get through this last kiloware box [hopefully by this weekend!] I might start paring it down. (Yeah, right, like I really believe that?)

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?

I have to pick one? Okay, Hungary... no Vietnam.. no Greece.. no Pakistan.. no Great Britain.. no, USSR, no Poland... oh heck, all of them!

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

I finally calculated this up.. on average, 2 hours a day before I go into work, 3 hours after I get home from work, and almost all day Friday and Saturday, so I'm thinking a minimum of 30 hours a week at the moment.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?

Bowling (I'm getting close to breaking a 160 average.. FINALLY after about 4 league seasons!), Video games, both old school (Commodore-64 games in particular) and modern, collecting ECHL hockey pucks (although my collection is TINY), sports cards, and HO scale model trains (I really need to learn how to build the structures better, mine always look like crap).

6. What is your favorite movie?

#1 will always be Casablanca, #2 - Shawshank Redemption... #3 - almost anything with Jet Li or Jason Statham (and if it has both, even better).

7. What is your favorite stamp?

Probably one of my first stamps I got was a GB Penny Red from my grandmother (not in the greatest shape), but it's a pride and joy of mine.

8. What is your favorite food?

You can NEVER go wrong with Pasta!

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?

Mine is weird.. I HATE when people use blue tooth telephones (the hands free version).. If you're near them and they're talking, you might think they're talking to you. And if you don't see them on the phone and try to say something, they give you dirty looks like you're a fool for not seeing them on their TEENY TINY headset. (That and they look like they're talking to themselves so many times... someone call him a psychiatrist! This guy is hearing voices in his head!)

10. What is your professional background?

IT Support Center

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?

Ronald Reagan.

12. What is your favorite TV show?

Doctor Who, hands down...

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?

stampcollectingblog by Keijo.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?

Ranch Dressing. Cause the wife never remembers we have three bottles of it in the cupboard when she goes shopping.. so we always have to shuffle at least one bottle into the fridge.

15. Who is your favorite musician?

Garth Brooks, hands down

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

That's a trick question... what wouldn't I buy? If you're making me choose... Honestly, i'd first buy as many specialty catalogs as I could first. And then I'd probably go crazy on anything and everything Icelandic. (hey, it's my birthplace, what can I say?)
Collector of many moons ago... now back in the hobby.
Do I know what I want? Absolutely... anything I can get my hands on :)

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I started when I was about 8. My dad gave each of my brothers and myself a pile of used stamps from all over the world, a stack of fullscap pages, an empty folder for the pages, some hinges, a Stylograph pen and an aplhabet stencil. We had to sort the stamps as we wanted, title the pages neatly using the stencil, affix the stamps on the pages and insert them into the folder. That took several weeks!

I stopped when I was about 12 and started again four years ago.

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
My grandad introduced me to stamps when I was about 8 years old. He was my hero, a rare individual and true gentleman. Even just to come visit us he wore a three piece tweed suit complete with bow tie and trilby. This was a man who even at 85, would run across a road to open a door for a lady. I adored him so when he showed me his stamp collection I instantly wanted to do it myself. He started me off with some from his own collection and I kept it up until I reached about 16 and suddenly other things seemed more important! I always kept the album though and then recently I had my first baby and found that I needed a hobby to help me relax when I wasn't looking after my boy, cleaning or cooking! So I pulled out the old album and started ordering. In two months I've gone from a modest collection of 100 or so to 7 stock books, 100 stock pages in a file, and a surplus of about 6k! I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I find the collecting and organising very therapeutic.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect? I haven't fully decided, although I have stockbooks with combined thematics... Birds, animals, flowers... Anything nature... transport: trains especially and cartoons/comics. I also like stamps from Tanzania, GB, Australia, New Zealand and a few other commonwealth.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Trains are my favourite topic, and I love the uniformity of a lot of the more recent Tanzania sets.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Whatever I can get between feeding and playing with little one and my general day to day tasks! Maybe 6 hours ish.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Quite a mixed bag actually! I have always been a bit of a gamer... I know that's about as far the other side of hobbies as you can get, but never the less! I also write poetry, shorts stories, children's poems and fantasy. Im actually currently looking for an artist for my latest children's books... A collaboration if you will. I love music, movies - sci fi especially. I grow chillies too. Oh and I knit! I'm not very good yet though, so just blankets! And I like comics, especially Star Wars oh, and graphic novels!

6. What is your favorite movie? Empire Strikes Back.

7. What is your favorite stamp? So far? I like so many of them, I haven't got a real favourite yet.

8. What is your favorite food? Chilli! Anything spicy, Indian cuisine, Mexican..

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it? Yes, I'm a little tightly wound, but I guess it has to be mouth noises? Haha! Not sure how to explain that, just hearing people chewing loudly, or biting nails, or grinding their teeth...

10. What is your professional background? I work in engineering, using computer aided design software (autocad mainly). Ive drawn up all sorts from house plans to electrics, civil works, structural and mechanical engineering, space planning, the list goes on. I work in rail mainly and currently produce electrical design plans for the rail industry, although I'm on maternity leave right now.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet? It depends whether you're talking crush or something a little more meaningful! Adam Garcia would be because of the crush :) but for something with a bit more meaning, it would have to be John Keats or E A Poe.

12. What is your favorite TV show? Hmmm... I'm an addict when it comes to fiction, I love Walking Dead, Hannibal, Falling Skies, Grimm, Dexter.... The list goes on.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards? I needed people around who didn't screw up their faces or laugh when I spoke about my hobby! I did a google search, found three top forums, and posted on them all. This one has proved the best.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator? Mushrooms and fresh chillies.

15. Who is your favorite musician? Oh dear, this is where it gets weird... Corey Taylor. For those who don't know who he is, please try not to judge too harshly... haha! He is the lead singer of slipknot and also Stone Sour. Whilst thrash metal may not be everyone's bag, the guy can play, write and sing everything from slow love songs to the hardest thrash that could make a persons ears bleed. That versatility is why I'm such a fan.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy? A penny black. I know that's probably predictable, but I could never afford one otherwise and its the first stamp my grandad told me about. Plus it marks the beginning of stamps in this country which I think is cool for a british collector.

I have been having a slack long weekend trawling Stampboards and found this thread, so here goes:

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
In 1966 when I was 11 years old, a friend lived near a Monastery where they collected stamps for the Missions (I always wondered why they wanted to send stamps to poor people overseas, food would have been better) - we used to help sort them out and could have whatever we wanted. So I got hooked.

Mainly Australian Commonwealth but I also have some Netherlands as I was born over there.

3. What is your favourite country or topic to collect?
Australia - Pre-decimal.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

I spent 4 days straight at the 2013 Expo in Melbourne recently - that made up for years of neglect.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
Mr Google pointed me in the right direction.
I was researching stamp auctions and found the very informative thread where the dodgy dealers are named.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Corona beer:)

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Tough one - I have a few I like - Talking Heads, Pink Floyd,

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

I've read all the posts so far, and love knowing a little more about other member's backgrounds :)

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?

I'm 33 and started around age 6 after a Christmas present of an album, tweezers, hinges and a few packets.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?

Australia, NZ and UK. Flight covers mainly but any odds or sods that catch my attention.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?

My favourite are TEAL flight covers followed by used blocks.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

Maybe two hours a week on my own collection or research and then another four on Stampboards. I catch a bus and a train to get to work, and home, so Stampboards fills that void nicely.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?

Apart from my beautiful wife and daughter I love reading, watching sports, horse-racing, camping, fishing and gardening. It has just turned winter here in Perth so I have just planted the beans, peas, spinach, beetroot, carrots, garlic and red onions. I also play piano and guitar and enjoy jamming with mates over a few beers and some good food.

6. What is your favourite movie?

Reservoir Dogs

7. What is your favourite stamp?

Any Chalon portrait of Queen Victoria

8. What is your favourite food?

It is winter here so I can't go past a nice hot roast meal, laden with thick brown onion gravy (and preferably cooked in a kettle oven, or Webber). My favourite snack is still fresh tomato on toast with a bit of butter, salt and pepper, and a sprig of parsley.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?

At the risk of sounding like an old bugger it would have to be most modern music, movies and television. Oh, and I also dislike poor grammar or spelling – I’m not the best but see others’ errors better than I see my own. Yes, I amended the spelling of “favorite” in my post prior to submitting

10. What is your professional background?

University dropout followed by 10 years as a bricklayer - 5 in NZ and 5 here in Perth. A couple of herniated discs provided me with the opportunity to both get back into stamps and change my career and I now look after the estimating department for a residential building company.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?

Michael Jones, the Ice Man. The greatest flanker (#7) to ever play the game of rugby (hopefully Richie McCaw isn't logged in)

12. What is your favourite TV show?

At the moment it is River Cottage

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?

Through one of Glen's articles. Funny story - I had followed Stampboards for a long time before joining up and was in awe of people's knowledge. My last name is Stephens and I didn't want people to think I may be related or have any pecuniary interest here so signed up as "ewen s" :)

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?

It used to be Marmite prior to Marmageddon. Not the thin English muck but the beautiful thick stocky, yeast-laden Kiwi spread. These days it is the olives out of my garden

15. Who is your favourite musician?

Otis Redding

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

I'd start with Rod Perry's unsolds from the Phoenix Auction

Cheers,

Ewen

Hi, My name is Mark. I can't remember not having a stamp collection. My father gave me his ETA (the peanut butter people) stamp album (1934) when I was very young. I still have it but I've taken all the good stamps out and put them in other albums. Lots of kids had stamp collections and I got a lot of stamps from swaps. I can't remember any of the details now but I also had stamp collecting penpals in a few countries and we'd exchange packages of stamps. I remember there was someone in America, Canada, South Africa & Fiji
I collect mostly British Commonwealth & USA.
I've had a 20 year break from collecting. I got annoyed when governments started issuing masses of stamps just to gain revenue from collectors and the quality of the stamps was poor. Then I started a business and just didn't have time for stamps anymore. I always planned to come back to it in retirement. I like the old stamps and the history they portray.I've got all the king's heads but they are boring to me. I'm not planning on filling in my collection past 2000.
At the moment I don't spend much time on my stamps. Only really when it's a rainy afternoon and there's not much else to do.
I like to play with plants in my nursery. I've started sketching since retiring and go to art class once a week. I like to make things in my workshop. Cooking can be fun. Planning to finish setting up my aquaculture system before spring and get a beehive happening.
My favourite movie is 'Brother from another planet'.
For my favourite stamp I am going to stretch the definition of stamp a little bit and choose the set of stamps for Azad Hind. I told you I like the history in stamps. During WWII there was a movement in India that wanted to break away from the British and take india and Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) over to the axis (german - japanese) side in the war. Azad Hind was going to be the name of this new country and the stamps were being delivered by a japanese ship when it was sunk by macarthur's fleet. So you see these stamps never went into issue and therefore aren't really stamps by definition. Some of Macarrthur's sailors salvaged some of these stamps. I don't have these stamps. A friend of mine had them because her father was there and was one of the sailors that got some.
I like seafood. I like to make desserts.
For the last 20 years I've been running a plant nursery. I went into engineering after school but didn't like that, did some mining, some fencing, a couple of years of making kitchens and then I found horticulture.
I admire Paul Worstling from 'I fish' just because I think he's really happy doing something he really likes and making a success of himself
my favourite all time tv show was called 'the crypton factor', it was on back around 1990. Contestants had to answer lots of questions just like a normal quiz show, then they had to work out a difficult puzzle. Then they had to run a 1/4 mile army endurance course. THE MUD. THE MUD.
A new friend from the Wyong Stamp club told me about this forum.
I alway have milk for tea or coffee in my fridge.
It's hard to pick a favouite musician so I'm just going to say John Lennon.
I guess I'm not that serious as I haven't really thouhgt of buying a particular stamp.

 well, you asked, so here goes....

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I first started collecting when I was about 12 or so. It became a brief hobby after I visited a féte and bought some stamps that had horse themes (as this was another craze at the time - anything horsey). My first stamps were four of the eight values in the 1972 Umm al Qiwain "Horses" set and I still have them in my collection despite their lack of value.
I then handed my collection to my daughter when she was also about the same age and encouraged her to build on it but her interest was only brief.
Now I have taken it up again much more seriously than was my original effort and I am learning rapidly about all things philatelic as I grow the collection with the purpose of it eventually leaving it to my daughter.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
I started collecting the same countries as in my original collection, but I have also developed an interest in Iceland, Poland, Argentina and Persia.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
My favourite country to collect, at present, is Iceland and my favourite topic is anything biological, botanical or zoological.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Just about every waking moment when I'm not at work.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Insect collecting, parasite biology and ecology, mammalian biology and ecology, reading, watching movies and listening to and playing music.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Beware...it's pretty horrific..."Seven".

7. What is your favorite stamp?
I'm still waiting to find one.

8. What is your favorite food?
Seafood of any sort!

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
I'm not letting that cat out of the bag on a public forum! It would be silly to go giving the enemies my weaknesses!

10. What is your professional background?
Bookkeeping/accounting and applied science

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
Johnny Depp (she says, blushing profusely....)

12. What is your favorite TV show?
I couldn't pin it to one but I like "Qi", "Catalyst", "Law and Order", the "Gruen" series', "Bargain Hunt" and "The Antiques Roadshow" amongst many others.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
I was googling or binging for information about a stamp and it was number one on the list. I started reading some of the threads and found them very informative, so I happily joined up.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Milk

15. Who is your favorite musician?
There is no way on earth I could limit it to one!

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
Probably a really nice One Penny Black first before I do more research into other, more valuable ones.

A very interesting thread! :D

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I've been collecting for the last twenty years albeit very slowly and in an on and off fashion. It really started because of my kids; I brought home a big bundle of used world stamps and they had a ball going through them all.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
Newfoundland and more recently, Germany.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
I wouldn't say I had a favourite to be honest.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
Typically anywhere between 5-10 hours.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Travelling with my beautiful wife, photography, reading and dispensing sage advice to my now adult children.... although they tend to call it something else....

6. What is your favorite movie?
Bladerunner.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
I have no particular favourite.

8. What is your favorite food?
My wife cooks up a mean Newfoundland Marble Fudge Cake that I could eat for every meal if she let me.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
That so many drivers now consider the use of turn signals to be optional. That and Celine Dion.

10. What is your professional background?
Retired Navy. Joined at 17, saw the world, drank more beer than any one man had a right to, bought the T-shirt, went home. Home is infinitely better!

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
Leonardo da Vinci.

12. What is your favorite TV show?
The IT Crowd. I can watch any episode any number of times and still find myself cracking up! "Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
Searching for information I couldn't help but note that Stampboards kept popping up near the top on all of my queries.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Heinz Ketchup.

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Neil Peart.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
As has so often been noted by others in this thread, all of them! But only after checking here to make sure I was doing it properly. :)

Hey everyone! I'm new here too, but this is a great way to learn about each other. Without further ado...

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?
I don't remember exactly how old I was, but my grandfather gave me his old boyhood collection. His uncle, a merchant seaman, passed along many odd and interesting world pieces in his travels. While the collection was not worth a great deal (shocker), it really piqued my interest in philately and world history.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?
- Worldwide with a focus on military/colonial/imperial history
- Canada, pre 1950
- Colonial India and states
- Australian KGV heads (sigh)
- Anything really old
- Really great lithographed stamps

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?
Ack, I hate choosing favourites. If I have to... I guess I'll pick anything involving occupation history or wartime history.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?
I have a 20 month old son (who I stay home with), so that varies pretty wildly.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?
Music (playing guitar, bass, etc.), Cooking, Birding, Kendo (Japanese swordfighting), science and education... lots more.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Again, I hate picking... but we'll say Seven Samurai.

7. What is your favorite stamp?
I'm partial to the Hong Kong 1946 Victory issues.

8. What is your favorite food?
Sushi, but I love food in general.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?
Lots of things irk me, but I wouldn't say I have one particular pet peeve.

10. What is your professional background?
I'm a stay-at-home dad for now, but I'm a teacher and science educator (and perennial student). I have a BSc, BEd, and MSc. My masters degree is in evolutionary biology, with a focus on entomology. If you have a question about a bug on a stamp... let me know.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?
I've never really given that one a lot of thought... maybe Carl Sagan or Richard Feynman.

12. What is your favorite TV show?
I don't watch a whole lot these days, but I really enjoy Adventure Time and Archer these days.

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?
I've been lurking on and off for... ages. I think I first googled some stamp or another and stumbled upon this place.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Cheese. Love me some cheese.

15. Who is your favorite musician?
Radiohead, but only because I have to chose.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?
I'd get a complete world collection of "number 1s" (first issues of a country). I've always love that idea, but places like Mauritius make that economically unattractive.

1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?

I was given an old stamp album when I was really young but didn't really get interested in it until I saw a program on TV called 'the quest for Tannu-Tuva', it was presented by professor Richard Feynman and he made it sound really interesting, he mentioned that Tuva had issued stamps and I decided to seek some out. I was about 11 or 12 years old at the time.

About a week later I went to my first stamp fair (in Bodmin), and managed to get some Tuva stamps with my pocket money, my interest grew and I joined a local stamp club.

A year or two later I had a Saturday job with a local stamp dealer and had exhibited my Tuva collection at Stampex and an exhibition in the Netherlands.

I got more and more interested in the stamps of the whole Russian area, so I joined the BSRP and collected the lot for a while.

When I moved away to go to university the collection was stored and I sort of forgot about it for 20 years or so.

Then a couple of years ago my aunt gave me her collection of Bermuda, explaining that it was a part of the family history as they were sent out there in WW2 and my grandfather started saving Bermuda stamps, she knew I had an interest and thought I would be a good custodian of it.

That collection reawakened my interest in philately, I'm now going into much more detail with the Bermuda material than I ever did with the Russian area.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?

Bermuda. The Russia and area collection is semi dormant for now, and I have a GB hingeless album that I am gradually filling up.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?

That would be Bermuda again, there's a really wide range of material to collect from this small group of islands.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

Varies widely, but I would guess at an average of about 5.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?

Researching my family history, Restoring and driving classic cars (particularly Triumph Acclaims), Railway modelling.

6. What is your favorite movie?

That changes by the day, some recent favourites are Fish story, Bladerunner, The Italian job (original version), At World's End and big tits zombie.
Don't be fooled into thinking that I understand Japanese by those choices, i just read the subtitles.

7. What is your favorite stamp?

The Bermuda penny red (the stamp in my avatar), I'm amazed at the amount of variety to be found on this stamp, could keep me busy with research for years.

8. What is your favorite food?

Strong cheese with Branston pickle.

9. Do you have a pet peeve? If so, what is it?

I've got a pet cat, does that count?

I get really annoyed by hunting (or other blood'sports' for that matter), but only when it's done by humans.

10. What is your professional background?

I'm a qualified home inspector and surveyor, but haven't actually worked in the field I'm trained for. About 5 years ago I made the move from lorry driving to chefing. I now work in the kitchen at a local pub.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?

Many of my ancestors would have interesting tales to tell, I would particularly like to meet my great grandfather on my mothers side and find out exactly what he got up to in Hong Kong.
Professor Richard Feynman would be my choice If I couldn't get an ancestor.

12. What is your favorite TV show?

Thats a tie between QI and Doctor Who

13. What brought you to Stampboards or how did you find out about Stampboards?

I was looking for online resources to research Bermuda postal history and Google sent me here.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?

Space for more cheese.

15. Who is your favorite musician?

That changes regularly, I've been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Clash recently.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

The Bermuda postmaster stamps, and possibly a few late 30s and early 40s Tuva overprints.
I collect Bermuda, and to a lesser extent The Russian Republics pre WW2, particularly Tuva.

Jon,
Seems like we have a lot in common regarding Richard Feynman and Tuva stamps. See my recent post in "Post subject: Re: Newbie starter kit thread: FREE GIFTS for active new mem" Sorry I don't know how to add a link to a specific post here :(
