** Your Country Roll Call - Add To Our Map! **

Post by RolyRJ »

RolyRJ thoughtfully set up this thread back way in 2007, the year we we started out the board.

As you can see from post 4 below we only had members from a few countries then!

The rest of this thread is un-edited, and just plots our steady growth. Month by month, year by year.

Kevin Hedley kindly kept us updated until mid 2017 as new members sign up, and his most recent update follows this admin note, and will give readers a quick overview of where we are at NOW!

Glen Stephens - Admin

Most recent update - 150 different countries -

Yeah I know Jim,

Weakness of the mapping program I am using. There are a few other inconsitances I have noticed as well. Eg click China and it also fills in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.....

I may look at tinkering with the software a bit myself and see if I can "redefine" some of the boundaries so to speak.

Cheers

Hong Kong and Macau are now in China.

Taiwan (Formosa) is a matter of dispute.

Not to the Chinese. They still think it is part of China.

Great thread idea Roly!

Seeing many of us now live in countries we were not born in, I think it is fair enough for a German born member now living in Italy to nominate EITHER of those countries to Roly's neat map!

It is too small to show on a map of Europe, and does not rate a pinprick on a map of the WORLD!

Couple of medium size hills and a few cow pastures, and a river, and 2 bears is your lot isn't it? 8)

I was hoping that various members would add their own countries so we get a bit of a representation of Active countries.

All those you mentioned are currently active though :)

As we spend 3 weeks a year in Samoa and I always buy stamps there can we put that in? Or is it too small?

Roly .. that's neat how all the images show the map progressing.

When this thread goes to 2 pages, I wonder if post one and the latest map image might be the same?

I assumed the map would be the same in all posts, so got a big surprise to scroll down to see the new areas lit up!

Well I guess I'll prove Waroff49 wrong. I'm from Queensland Australia, living in Madison Wisconsin (temporarily for the last 9 years), currently working at the South Pole Antarctica.

Roly, thank you for the welcome. I visited Scott Base quite a few times in the seasons 99 to 02. I was always angling for an invite to dinner, or the bar. I wonder if we ever ran across each other. No chance of remembering now. But it's a small world. I was visiting the TAE hut (a hugely under rated place) one day and a close friend from Hobart who had been in as guide on a tourist ship had signed the visitors book the previous day!
