Hi folks:

I haven’t had much time lately for stamps, let alone Stampboards, due to a busy work schedule and lingering health issues.

I have several outstanding exchanges (thank you for your patience RobRoy) and also have a healthy pile of covers and cards I need to acknowledge in some fashion. I will do so.

Please let me apologize to anyone who may feel slighted or frustrated by my lack of focus — I received an email from a fellow Stampboarder to that effect yesterday.

It so happened I read it as I was about to leave for a memorial service for a good friend who died far too young.

So the email inadvertently put Stampboards and stamp collecting into its proper context for me.

I will lurk here, but likely not post and plan to contact fellow Stampboarders individually as time allows.

I wish everyone good health for the rest of the year and beyond.

Thank you for your understanding.

Be kind.

Fellow Stampboarders

I will be away for about two weeks spending Christmas & New Year in China & Hong Kong. I understand temperatures will be a little on the coolish side but with all the layers to keep me warm I resemble the Michelin man.

Re-emerging from self-isolation. I heard there was some sort of toilet paper shortage?

There is a public holiday in Canberra today - Reconciliation Day. Perhaps Australia should consider this day as foreign aid to the US of A....
The trouble with the rare stamps is that they are hard to come by.

I can’t even begin to imagine that long in hospital. Only been in a hospital once, three months of sheer hell after being thrown from a horse when it got spooked. Mind you riding bare back was a bit stupid.......hey I was young

Thank you all for the welcome back :) . It will be a long time until I'll have gained enough physical strength back to do something useful (that's what the doctors say anyway). Meanwhile I have enough reading to do to catch up with the board. It helps.

Welcome back!

And ignore the doctors. When they say “useful” they are, of course, missing the fact that posting here and increasing your philatelic knowledge is “useful”.

Keep going, keep on the path of recovery and remember that your friends here will keep you company all the way.

As my avatar indicates, despite the pandemic house moves are continuing and sometime before the end of the month I'll be out of touch for a short while. I'll have access to the iPad, before the computer is unpacked, but the broadband will be the sticking point I suspect. Time will tell.

Meanwhile if anybody needs info that I might have an answer to I will get emails through the mobile phone - ian - at - norphil.co.uk (different email to the one that I'm registered with here).

Thanks, it's been complex due to the pandemic, with most lawyers and estate agents not working. Some of the companies provided a limited service, others - apparently - doing nothing.

But we've found some very flexible movers, who provide a good service. Having had several quotes, when we went back to some about 3 weeks ago to move the last of John's stuff from his house into our container storage, they were unable to do anything. Then we tried another company, and the team work very well, and charge by the hour from the time they leave their depot until the time they finish dropping off, which is refreshing.

It means if you do things in advance, like unplumbing washing machine & tv, you save money over those who assume you won't and quote acordingly, for instance, but don;t reduce the invoice if you've save them time.

We've used them for two parts of the move, and will have them back for at least two more.

Hi folks!

Just a quick note to folks NOT to send anything to my soon-to-be former Torrance address in Southern California.

We are retiring and moving to Canada in the next few days.

I don’t think I’m involved in any active exchanges except for potentially the Pay it Forward thread, but wanted to let everyone here know.

Already have a place in British Columbia and it looks like it will have a nice stamp den though so hope to be back at it soon!

Ciao for now and back to packing!

Ciao for now and back to packing!
A bit colder, but a lovely part of the world and you'll see get used to the cold. In Vancouver or somewhere a little more scenic?

It’s a city in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia called Kelowna, which has a population of about 150,000, Catweasle. Thank you for your interest.

It’s Canada’s California: lakes, mountains, wineries, orchards.

Most importantly compared to Southern California: no edible air/smog, crowded freeways, a population of millions and millions fewer people, a lower cost of living and overall better quality of life in retirement.

We’re cooling our jets this weekend in a hotel just south of the border waiting for a coronavirus test result mandated by Canada even though we’re both fully vaccinated and most Canadians are not.

And we have to quarantine for 14 days, too, at our newly rented home while we wait for our stuff— including about 40 stamp binders (!) — to arrive. So I’ll probably be back on here regularly in the next week or two bored out of my mind!

If you’re ever in the area…..
