Avatar Fairy,

I love the stamp you used for my avatar -- however would I be breaking with regulations if I used my own which is not stamp related.

It is not offensive but more in tune with my other hobby and user name, that's as long as I can upload it, I'm sure the size is within the correct range.

I will await your approval, cheers for now.

Avatar Fairy,

A million thanks for doing that for me. :D :D The item I gave you, I feel, will be of the same value as the one you had so I think a straight swap will be fine and in that regard I look forward to receiving the stamp in the mail. However I will not be holding my breathe waiting    .

Once again many thanks,
Sid.

Thanks! :) A great choice. I have a passion for the mountains.

Mt. Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park. I've been there a few times.

Brought back memories of great sightseeing with the kids years ago, and several backpacking trips in the area. Hmmm... time to go back again, I guess.

Thank you for the lemurs. I was dithering over whether to use a lemur or a chameleon, and now I can go and dither about something else instead.

Glad you like your lemurs, Falsename.
So many lovely Malagasy stamps- very hard to choose.

Glen and I visited Madagascar and couple of years ago- you might be interested in the thread and the great cinderellas our talented member, Allenswood, designed.

Hello Avatar Fairy-

I have a question (or two). When trying to save an image (jpeg) of a stamp as my avatar, I consistently get a message that the pixels are too many. Yet it is just one stamp.

Is it because I scanned at too high of a resolution? (I may have scanned at 600 dpi.)

I see other avatars with very good resolution.

Thanks,
Marty

Thank you very much Mrs / Miss Fairy.

You must have a very extensive collection of stamps to be able to make all of these stamp photographs. I almost choked on my Bovril when I saw the stamp photograph you had assigned to me - who knew there were more than four of these?

Thank you also for ensuring that all of the serrated edges are clearly visible. I think we can all agree that this makes for a much more interesting stamp photograph. It is unfortunate that Mr Samoa did not take as much time or effort as you did in selecting his stamp photograph - not a serrated edge in sight!
The trouble with the rare stamps is that they are hard to come by.

Jason-

I will assume that you are new to collecting. My avatar does not have any perforations (serrated edges, as you called them). It is a die proof, cropped from a strip of 4 which is a key item in my 10-frame exhibit of the Samoan Palm Tree issue of 1886-1900.

Before the final stamp is ever produced, the engraver will pull a series of proofs to see how his engraving is progressing. The printer will print several proofs in various colors for final selection.

This is a die proof in red. The final color was a reddish brown, and in later printings it was done in green.

I selected this item for its rarity and beauty, and I am quite proud that it is in my collection.

The Avatar Fairy did a great job, and I am most happy with my avatar.

Thanks Jason. A good point about the serrations.
I might suggest MrSamoa borrows some pinking shears to do his so they look more authentic .

Another BIG thank you to the AF :P .
Your posting stimulated me to get in there and change my Avatar. Not that I didn't like the one chosen by the Fairy. Just that the updated one has some historical significance in my life.
The Cape of Good Hope stamp is overprinted by W A Richards and Sons, who at the time (1883) were the Cape Government Printer.

I hate my alteration; before my avatar was part of an Arabian Gulf stamp with focus of a circular date stamp of Dubai which reflected my specialist area of Arabian Gulf postal history; but for some random reason I was given an Australian stamp. I don't do stamps. Ever. I hate it. Why did this change occur without consultation?
