"View all posts since my last visit" New Feature

A fantastically useful new board feature.

Actually it has been up for a while, but in general, no-one seems to know it exists! :D

Go to the main Index page (click either of the large coloured stampboards logos to get there fast!) and then simply click the small text link in blue writing at top right saying - "View New Posts"

OR, if you are logged in now and want to "road test" this feature now - simply click here which should work for you:

https://www.stampboards.com/search.php?search_id=newposts

Even if you have not logged in for 4 days or 40 days, EVERY thread with a reply(s) made since then shows up. A wonderful way to ensure you miss NOTHING interesting being posted!

Stampboards now gets about 500 posts a day, so it is VERY easy for a thread of great interest to you to slowly sink down and vanish from view, without you even knowing it ever existed.

You can quickly go to the ones that MOST interest you.

Please post here and let me know if this feature is useful for you. 8)
.
Click HERE to see superb, RARE and unusual stamps, at FIXED low nett prices, high rez photos, and NO buyer fees etc!

Been using it regularly.

It's the only way to fly, in my opinion. Gets all the latest posts on a single screen.

You can leave the screen open, come back hours later and refresh, and you have an update of all the latest posts since last time.

Give it a try!

This is a really useful way to keep up with what is happening on the board

- especially for those of us with limited time to visit.

Thanks

I think it's one of the best features on the board! I've used it as long as I have been a member, and I would be lost without it.

Do have one question about it -- didn't it used to post the number of threads it listed at the top? I notice this feature is now gone, and I did find it useful. ( It said something like "29 Posts".)

Anyway, this is one of the features which make the board so much easier to use than other boards.

Hi Jumet

it still lists how many new posts were found,
it's down the bottom left now, in brackets, eg: page 1 of 1[search found 30 matches]

I'm not finding it that useful. I only visited yesterday and today it's giving me ten pages of new posts. I guess this means that this is a popular forum, but it does make the feature less useful.

Isn't that what the Google search bar is for? To narrow down what you are looking for? Makes things a lot easier if you end up with the half million new posts.

Didn't know it was new and as a I am new here I assumed it was just one of the features. It's priceless and I wouldn't be without it.

It is also very useful for spotting Glen's bargains or toxic waste offers very quickly!

Hello:
My "view new posts" seems to have had a small glitch. As with the "unanswered posts" and "view your posts" there used to be a bar at the bottom to set date range. That has disappeared from my screen, and when I logged back in, had set to zero, with no option to reset.
Has this been seen before?
Thanks,
patg

Hi Everybody...I'm back

Its been more than a few days since I last posted and thought I would renew or re introduce myself a little.

I did manage to upload a few pictures and I'm pleased about that .

I was thinking of starting a thread and was wondering if it is the right thing to do at this moment in time. Moderators please let me know ?.

As I explained when I first joined I have come into the ownership of my Fathers collection. Now I'm no expert in this matter and forgive me if I omit some of the technical terms towards this great vocation which is the collection of stamps.

When I was a boy I used to accompany my Father every Sunday to that part of London known as 'Brick Lane' and loved the hustle and bustle of a thronging market environment and the fact that you could purchase just about anything if you had a mind too. The array of animals that were available were quite stunning in fact. I digress. My late Fathers reasons for attending this market was obvious.

The stamp market stalls were many and were wide (crowded too) with pieces of paper which reigned from all over the world and I lost my Father on many occasion as he wandered back and forth from those large and varied platforms (market stall tops) hunting out his prize for dragging me all the way there and back.

Most Sunday evenings were spent floating little pieces of paper in water filled metal plates, when ready floating the stamps from same and then laying the them all out to dry. My Father encouraged me to get involved with collecting in my own right and I managed to fill a small album with mainly stamps from Ghana and surrounds. Alas this interest only saw me into puberty and soon other things took priority at the time and I got involved with other things and I wandered.

Yes That album is still around and my Father had kept it all these years with his own prized collection.

The collection totals some 45 albums in the main in a stock book guise with many repeats across the page. There is also many binders containing many covers along with FDC's which he collected later in life. Some special one themed collections of covers. These total along with some Ltd edition albums of a royal nature. About another 30 binders Approx. There are many loose collections and accumulation in many cellopayne envelopes. There is also a number of loose pages.

Of course back when my Father first started collecting all stamps in albums and books were in the norm presented via hinges, which correct me if I'm wrong was the way that most people presented their pastime.

I think it was in the sixties when my Father went over to the stock book way of presenting his collection. Many though still have the scars of the hinges etc. There are many items that are mint, unused and unhinged.

When my Father passed it then became the possession of my Mother who kept it around mainly getting under her feet. She had approached a number of people as to their disposal and after taking advice from many, all and sundry, she still had them. I have since purchased them from her with the undertaking that should I find anything of worth in the collection I would recompense her accordingly.

At the moment we are sorting through them to try and access their condition and their worth. Don't get me wrong the intention here is not with a view to selling them. Since looking and sorting through them is a monster project I am becoming fascinated by the differing aspects that some of them portray. The history of the world has fallen at my feet and I wish to discover more about them whether that be their rareness, their worth or their history I find myself going back to those Sunday mornings down at the market.

I am scanning some of the collection and will post in the thread which I would like to start and I would be most grateful for any input that I can get from people who are more knowledgeable on the subject than I can ever be. I would welcome comments from collectors and dealers alike and I ask you not to hold back in your assessments of anything that I post.

Many thanks all. Sorry to fill up the content of this page.

Ray

Great feature and hence a bump for this topic.
