Very impressed with all of the positive responses; very well deserved!!

And a big 'thank you' for the tip on the Ctrl key and the mouse scroll... I don't know where I must have been for the last 20 years, but thanks again!

Yay! This morning I've got the Attachments tab - haven't tested it yet.

The site is now much easier to read on my iPhone, too, thank you very much!

One little question - when I click on my Notifications, a list comes up with posts I am interested in and subscribed to, but when I click on anything in the list, a page appears which says I am not authorized to view it. I have to go to the Board Index, and by then, I probably have forgotten what the thread was that I was interested in.... Anyone else?

Amazing improvements to say the least, a big thanks to everyone behind this.

2. Great look and feel on mobile devices too

This is what all members SHOULD see -- many are not - I will ask Yuriy to try and sort it.

Image
Just tried to list in the "For Sale" and could not load images. Worked when I tested on the beta site. I do not see the items below the dialogue box in Glen's post above.

Do folks see that tab NOW?

Please report back on these things, we are NOT mind readers.

Glen
Yes, Glen, I see the attachments tab. Everything seems to work.

I might add that you will NOT see steps 3 and 4 (circled in red) until you click on Add Files (step 2, circled in red) and actually add a file.

This is a wonderful change to this website. Thanks.

Glen:

A suggestion:

Is there a way to make the links I've looked at change to a different color?

On the old version of the website, that happened. It helped greatly in quickly looking down the list of fairly recent postings to show me which ones I'd already looked at, and might be interested in revisiting. That is not happening on this new version.

Thanks for considering this improvement.

Great job, Glen.... really easy to access from all types of media. The email function about 'watched' posts is working well too. Seemed really quick too when loading large posts. Kudos.

Thank you, Glen, and all who did work on this project.

The hard work was near entirely down to Yuriy in New York, who spent near 2 days without sleep in the final stages it seemed to me, due to endless data corruption in files, and other unexpected issues, due to our huge board.

Hope the members here who appreciate the smooth look, and many new features, all crowd fund him MANY Pizzas via PayPal - yuriy [at] rusko.org Without someone superbly expert on the complex PhpBB operating system, and server back end work, and able to somehow untangle the utter mess of 15 years of corrupt and broken code, and database alterations we had created, absolutely none of what you see would be occurring!

MUCH of what you see here is customised JUST for our audience, which is wildly different to a phpBB board a bunch of 20 year old War Gamers etc, want and use.

The huge transition of both servers and phpBB software seems to have gone super smoothly, and Yuriy in New York has very quickly and efficiently fixed a bunch of irritating little glitches the Mods have pointed out today, so all is sailing along like clockwork. :D

Yuriy also loaded a super powerful and super fast search Engine that most phpBB boards cannot support, but we now have the server grunt to do so, and BINGO - job done. Mega powerful - try it out!

BRILLIANT being able to load huge images direct from a laptop here! They are auto saved to the stampboards domain, and never again will photobucket, IMGUR, or IMGBOX or others give us any grief.

We now have over a MILLION stamp images here saved forever. I booked a very large server to host it all so we are good for keeps now.

All of this is only possible when we have a phpBB Whizz like Yuriy to assist - I am a Total Tech Trog, have no idea at all on this stuff, and have never even sent a text message. If it were up to my 'skills', we'd be using blunt chisels and sandstone tablets to post our messages here!

Yuriy truly deserves a few gallons of strong coffee, and a car load of pizzas for battling for ENDLESS hours on this over recent months, to make our FREE board 5 times better, more usable and more robust overnight. Several members have asked me for his PayPal address to send him a little personal "Thank You" for his amazing work here, to fund the strong coffee (or whatever!) and Pizzas, and I am sure he will not mind at all - yuriy [at] rusko.org (Think of it as your oblique Membership Fee or Crowd Funding.)

A brilliant job, it really was. These things look smooth and seamless now to the casual user, but this has been the project from Hell, with endless dramas I will not begin to share here, to get away from our previous hopeless web hosts, get the domains released and unlocked (WAY tougher than you'd imagine) find a solid and efficient and robust new one for our new servers, (also a TON tougher than you'd imagine) get all those ducks in a row somehow, and then to move our ancient and unsupported and often corrupted data base to the shiny and newest phpBB version, onto a clean new server, in exactly the format and look we wanted. :!:

Thanks Glen, and thanks for the positive messages from everyone.

I think I've now taken care of everything that has been brought up, but please tell me if anything was missed. Namely, if you still can't see the attachment options somewhere, please let me know which forum or forums. That's just a small permissions tweak.

All 6.5M posts on the site are currently being reprocessed to fix the BBCode glitches and make centring attachments possible. I've done what I can to prevent any major slowness, but you might notice things not being quite as springy until it completes in 9 hours or so. That's 657,274.3 posts per hour / 10,954.57167 posts per minute / 182.576194 posts per second :D

EDIT: The above is done.

All the usual bots and spiders have access to the board, to spider and index entries for future searches. As it is a new board set up, only those bots that have been active here Since June 1, are logged into Admin panel.

I've personally never heard of Majestic-12 and a google search only gives me UFO conspiracy links - anyone else ever heard of them?

The $US 4 figures spent in last month on servers and hosting costs etc, is all down to me, and always has been so for 15 years, and I never had an issue with funding that. :D

This board hence costs no member one cent at any time, no matter how useful it is to them! Whether buying/selling/swapping, or seeking and sharing info etc.

However, I have no idea how all this back end stuff works, and what you see this week is entirely down to Yuriy as posted above, so please Crowd Fund a few Pizzas his way, if you like all the enormous progress, crisp new look, and new ease of use, that his fine work has just bought us all!

50 or 100 members doing that, will part cover his 100 hours of tech expertise spent on this rescue.

There are no free lunches in life, and our very generous members here will I am sure, pitch in to this truly excellent cause. We ALL benefit from this skilled overhaul.

Very nice updating to a more contemporary forum platform.

There is one thing I miss though from the old forum (and maybe I am blind and missing it) but on the old forum at the upper right there used to be a link that allowed you to jump directly to the previous thread within that forum subsection. I used that feature all the time, basically starting from the newest post in a thread and working backward until I had read all the unread threads since my last visit. Now, it seems the only way to go to the preceding thread is to go back to the full menu of threads in that subforum and clilck on the previous thread's title.

Again maybe I am missing the link to do that but I am not seeing it where it used to be in the upper right corner of the page.

Otherwise love the new forum. The auto-upload image feature in particular will be a time saver for many of us (myself included!)

Stampboards is looking good I have access to all my post once again without having to go and look for them one by one for this I thank the techies.

I do have a minor glitch, within the wiki in the past I have been able to post small images side by side this I can no longer do, am I missing something or this no longer possible, makes for a very long post with 20 small images downward in a row.

Below is a link about half way down you will find the quickie wiki.

Gutters,

If the new attachment doesn't allow images side by side, have you tried old fashion way using Imgur?

Back to Imgur sort of defeat the point of the easy transfer.

The long post looks okay, it the editing that gets long if there is no easy fix then I will carry on

Was just asking if others or the techies had a work around.

Thank you for your input.

Was just asking if others or the techies had a work around.
The ''work around'' you were advised about above.

It works, has always worked, and is very simple to do, and you have always done it. You just do not like the answer.

The board is improved enormously for 99.999% of things.

If one person for some obscure reason, in an obscure thread, wants to achieve something quirky as you are doing, it is indeed STILL possible to do that, as it always was. Some folks in life are never happy. :!: :!:

Is there a new, larger image size allowed now? What is the new image size?
Yes as widely reported all over the board, including post 1 of this very thread, and member email, 15% larger size is now possible - 1024 max up from previous 900. :)

This one I just loaded direct from my laptop - and is the new 1024 mega size! Try adding one and see for yourself.

Image
I have just loaded an image onto the GB2020 usage thread by drag-and-drop. I didn't check the size of the image before I loaded it and it is 1583 x 1105. However, on the post examination of 'View Image Info' by right-clicking it states "1,024px × 715px (scaled to 904px × 631px)".

However, if I use Ctrl++ to make the image appear larger on screen the info is

"1,024px × 715px (scaled to 832px × 581px)"

So it would appear that we can drag-and-drop sizes above 1024 and they will be scaled down. Obviously a good idea NOT to load something taken on a phone without re-sizing it as those images are large in file-size.

Thanks to Glen and Yuri for all the hard work. Having taken a few days away from the hustle and bustle, and only looked at one or two posts, I am very pleased to say that the change has been largely seamless.

Some display aspects are even better than before, and the ability to drag-and-drop images is wonderful !!

Thank you so much.

Thank you Brad

notch in upper arm on rt stamp.jpg

If this is the image you are talking about it is a single image of 2 stamps, though it has helped me immensely as I can join 2 images maybe 3 in paint while I am editing these part stamps.

So again thank you Brad

Congrats Glen, Yuriy and team.

Much faster and so good to get direct image uploads and faster notifications.

As someone who has had the "pleasure" of doing a website migration in his day job I know how huge these things are, it looks like it has all gone really well for you, and therefore the many stampboards users.

Thank you!

A very quick test using PREVIEW would give you the answer. :!:

All images load readily now, both HTTP and HTTPS prefixed - and if you download from your own device neither is relevant. :)

The way it's configured now, you can embed images any which way and the server will figure it out.

I just found an even better feature - drag-and-drop works both ways!.

Wanting to save the James Bond maxi-card images that JoneBoy posted in the Maximum card thread, I opened my maxicards/bond folder, and dropped the new images in, one by one.

The new site looks great Glen. Congratulations.

I went back through this thread to find an answer but did not.

When I access various threads and open a new topic I CAN see the "Option,""Attachment" and "Poll" buttons EXCEPT in the "Sell your Stamps" thread. It appears it is only in the sales thread I only see the "Options" button. I have been using ImageShack to place images there.

Just wanted to let you know.

Glen - I'm getting exactly the same as Wayne. The attachments tab is there when I create a post in any other forum, but not if I try in the Sales area.

Using Firefox 77.0.1 on a Windows 10 laptop of that helps.

No we can't see -
Screen Shot 2020-06-06 at 21.49.40.png
and Drag and Drop isn't available in the sales forum either, I tried a test post as well.
[Edit - can't add images, even as an answer on a post that I can see.]

This may be to do with forum priveledges that are still set differently for mods? But only a suggestion.
