I believe I've already answered this.
(Every computer I've seen in the last 20 years already has the software to open, rotate and save the new image included.)

Kaygeevee's new thread on the plate shows all the images upright.

Sorry Greg,

but I don't think so:

DLX 1 - Vertical scan of DLX envelope that is too wide to scan in horizontal position.
DLX 1 - Vertical scan of DLX envelope that is too wide to scan in horizontal position.
DLX 2 - Rotated 90 degrees right on my computer. Stampboards or my computer have rotated it another 90 degrees to fit.

DLX 1 and 2 as saved on my computer

DLX 3 - after uploading DLX 2 to IMGUR then down loading that image back from IMGUR.

DLX 1, 2 and 3 as saved on my computer

I believe this is what Kaygeevee was describing & it happens to me every time I want to scan DL & DLX or larger.

I am guessing that when the vertical image is rotated 90 degrees left or right it becomes too wide for Stampboards & maybe then Stampboards adjusts it back to fit. This is why I shrink it in IMGUR.

I am no computer whiz kid, so if you have any suggestions that would eliminate the IMGUR process, I would be pleased to hear them. :)

Firstly, the post was about the image being upside down, not sideways. Anyway...

Saved the vertical one to my desktop.
Opened to edit in "photo's"
Rotated and saved as a new image.
Didn't adjust anything else and uploaded here.

Doesn't the new SB software auto resize to suit the max width or height?
Certainly looks like it does for me.

I can't believe that nobody else has a facility to rotate the area to be scanned. Surely Canon have this option; Epson have always had it. This avoids any need for post-scanning adjustment, no Imgur, no uploading downloading renaming, nada.

Overview of item to be scanned, with selection rectangle, not yet sized for the cover.

Same view but with mouse pointer on rotation tool - this allows freeform rotation, which saves trying to line covers and stamps properly on the scanner bed.

Note this also works for magazine pages best laid on inverted, which can be scanned by setting the rotation angle to about 180º and will then be upright.

Stamps and postmarks on the commercial covers I collect (ca. 1920s - 1960s) are often aligned independently of the envelope which themselves are not square.

I prefer one random scan then import to Photoshop and rotate as required. Result is: one rotation for the envelope, one for the stamp(s) and one to view the date-stamp's strike intended horizontal alignment.
Time to quit. Was told what I should collect.

And I prefer two scans, each at independent resolutions pre-aligned to the required orientation. Scan to desktop, drag and drop to Stampboards in a couple of minutes. It takes longer to write the post, and the image caption, than it does to do the scanning, with no need for Photoshop or any other software.

As demonstrated in the post preceding yours.

I notice your images are scanned at 160 dpi. I rarely scan at anything less than 600 dpi.

Yes I have the ability to rotate images, like everyone else, but as Allanswood pointed out, something somewhere is automatically rotating my already 90 degrees rotated images a further 90 degrees.

It is as if the Board is saying my image is too large to fit in horizontally, but it will fit vertically, so it changes the image from landscape to portrait.

A blind man would be pleased to see it, it looks fine.

Depending on what questions (if any) you might have to about the stamp you might need a larger image.

That's a very small 600dpi scan image.
It should be the size of a saucer plate, (A5 paper)

:D
I only used 160 as an example because it was a c5 envelope and I didn't see any point in making the file huge when it would be shrunk for display. There was no detail that I wanted to show so it didn't have to be sharp (ie 300 dpi).

This was scanned at 200 dpi for the same reason, it's 2012 x 1622 so too big to fit across the SB page - it's 10 inches by 8 and has produced a 573kb image; it didn't need to be 2Mb. It was on the scanner sideways, scanned with the rotation at about 90º, and displayed here on the OHMS thread with no problem, no rotation. Displaying it on my computer the 'View Image Info' drop-down shows "1024px × 826px (scaled to 904px × 729px)".

10 x 8 inch OHMS cover scanned at 200 dpi producing an image 2012 x 1622 pixels.

But how was it scanned? See my previous post.

I don't have an explanation for all this, I merely demonstrated that, fortunately, we don't all have the problem that some of you do.

I had my first image failure for a long time today, trying to upload a file with this name

Holocaust Memorial Greenford/Windsor 20210125.jpeg

On drag and drop in the usual (current) way, I found that a yellow triangle appeared alongside instead of the progress bar - the file could not be uploaded with this name.

Then I looked at the file name alongside and it showed as

Holocaust Memorial Greenford:Windsor 20210125.jpeg

The / had been converted by the software to a colon, which (like many other characters) has always had a special meaning in file names.

Just a warning if anybody else has similar experience: check that the file name you were trying to load has been changed by the board software.

Hi dickstabile888 (rather a longwinded ID!).

As you can see from your posting, you did not insert the image by clicking on the "Place Inline" button. Your image, as a result, has a white border all around it and the ugly "ATTACHMENTS" at the top. Hopefully you saw that and corrected it for your next posting. Always use the "Preview" option to see what your post is going to look like, before clicking on "Suubmit". :)

Checking back after many months, I am pleasantly surprised that we can now post our pictures directly without resorting to external servers. Just a test ...

Hooray, it works! Now I can ask my questions in this forum. It was too awkward for me to use an external image server, which is why I had practically withdrawn from stampboards. Thanks to whoever made this possible!

All of this massive upgrading of the board and features, was only possible as we had a phpBB Whizz like Yuriy to assist - I am a Total Tech Trog, have no idea at all on this stuff, and have never even sent a text message . If it were up to my 'skills', we'd be using blunt chisels and sandstone tablets to post our messages here!

Yuriy truly deserves a few gallons of strong coffee, and a car load of pizzas for battling for ENDLESS hours on this over recent months, to make our FREE board 5 times better, more usable and more robust overnight. We have over a MILLION stamp images stored here forever now on our massive USA based servers. At ZERO cost to any member, ever. :!:

Several members have asked me for his PayPal address to send him a little personal "Thank You" for his amazing work here, to fund the strong coffee (or whatever!) and Pizzas, and I am sure he will not mind at all - yuriy [at] rusko.org (Think of it as your oblique Membership Fee or Crowd Funding.)
