Erm, they all appear the right way up (.... on this side of the planet :D )

Does that mean, in this case, its most likely a "viewer handling / compatibility" anomaly?

Sadly No 3 still looks sideways in Golden Beach, also on Firefox! Admittedly we are only 1.8 Km apart, so distance has not lost anything in the image.

As I have said elsewhere, orientation inconsistencies will go away if the EXIF data in the image is removed.

I have just done a test with this website, and it works fine:-

https://www.verexif.com/en/

Just browse for the image you wish to wipe EXIF data from, then press the Remove Exif button. It will save the image in your downloads folder.

There are lots of utilities like this on the web that will enable you to edit EXIF data, this one simply removes it.

Hello kenlondon, looks like you have found a solution for those annoying rotated images that others were unable to tame.

For those of us not "up" on the technicalities, can you explain a bit more about "EXIF" please? What does the instruction mean, and what does it do? Thanks!

EXIF is an area in the image file (JPG) which contains lots of useful information about the image.

If you have a digital camera you can often embed the copyright owner into each photo taken by going into the menu settings.

Other data you may find in there (different cameras have different capability) is the date and time the photo was taken, exposure time, the aperture used, focal length, notional ISO, resolution, the orientation of the camera, the model of the camera and lens used. You will no doubt see references to Geotagging online: the place the photo was taken can be used to show it on a map, without having to type it in anywhere. That is if the camera has GPS capability.

Though I have mentioned cameras in the above, scanners have similar features.

If you use Notepad to open a JPG (in Windows, right-click and select Notepad from the Open With... option on the pop-up menu. DON'T click the Set As Default checkbox though!), you will see some of this information in the gobbledegook that comes up. Do a "before" and "after" of the image once the EXIF data has been removed to see the difference.

The link I provided does show this information if you click on the View EXIF button.

N.B. Stripping the EXIF information from the image has no detrimental effect on the image, but I suggest you do not overwrite the original as the EXIF information may come in handy in future.

Thanks heaps kenlondon, a prompt and very helpful description of a technical topic I didn't know about.

I expect there will be other readers who will find your post and benefit from it as well, because you have made it both clear and informative.

(Before asking for a commentary, I did look at the link you previously provided, but I didn't think to click on the "View EXIF" button — didn't realise what it was for!)

One of the best characteristics of a good teacher is patience, and you are a fine role model for that :D

I can't say anything about the date or origins of this stamp/cinderella,
but I can transcribe the Czech text and use the transcription to give
Google translate's English version:

Mezinárodní odborový
International Trade Union Committee

solidarita(*) s pracujícími a lidem Jižního Vietnamu
Solidarity with the workers and people of South Vietnam

Hrdinný Jihovietnamský lid zvítězí
The heroic South Vietnamese people will win

(*) Oddly, it seems the text uses the English word "Solidarity" rather than
the Czech word "Solidarita". Perhaps the English version was the most
widely used catchcry at the time...

Well, that's the Viet Cong flag and copies of the cinderella are on Czech websites rather than dotted elsewhere around the world so it's probably exactly what it appears to be! ;)

No more specific details online at a casual glance, sorry.

Thanks very much for your opinions Roger, much appreciated! I’m guessing the date of the Cinderella is probably late 1960s - Early 1970s.
