Thanks for the info Big Saint and Bunge. Quite a hard to get mark.

I googled the name and it was part of the Overland Telegraph system on the Oodnadatta Track and the site was used because of the water there. Not much there now only ruins. The photo below is from the State Library of SA.

Probably No 2 State Mill Dwellingup A26 c1920 to 1937 Rarity of 2 or (R)

Can just see WE of Western Australia so probably Type "A". There is a 'C' type but it is WA not the full name.

This should be your postmark Mike. A couple of things. Could you please put your enquiries upright ? Makes it easier to determine. Have you got a small piece of red plastic/acetate ? Makes it easier to read postmarks on red stamps.

Hello handsome,

I thought my scan was upright, but I assume you mean putting the stamp at an angle so the name is more horizontal(?) I'm not sure I can do that: I only appear to have the ability to rotate it at 90degrees.

I do a piece of red PERSPEX but in this case I didn't need it.

Terry didn't want to reveal his source that actually is available to anyone with an internet connection. No secret!

It's downloadable, in sections, from the WA Study Group - Postal Markings Illustrated (PMI) page. I've used it to identify relief WA date stamps.

Hi all,

Typical, not found time to post for months and now cannot post images with Imgur, trying to set an account with Imagebox but not received the verify identity email yet, so I cannot ask about the cancels am unsure of... but I am looking at the PPA site and the Victorian Datestamps reference, $55 AUD per year, if anyone uses this, would it show the actual datestamps of each cancel? and does it cover A-Z as i know the previous post office and hand held cancellers of Victoria publications only made it to about G... I have quite a few postmarks but collect widely including all world so want to be sure if this is worth me subscribing to,

Thanks all for any thoughts and advice and i will post the ones I am unsure of as soon as I can

Hi all,

I went through some of my Victoria unidentified postmarks and would be grateful some help with a few.

This one looks like it could be Lake Wondah or Wonwondah any thoughts? Strange date format!!
Image

This needs a bath, but it looks like Murroon?
Image

Matlock? inverted NO and 03 year
Image

Melton Ry Stn?

Finally is this barred numeral MCCC57? For Darriman

Also, as per the above I am looking at the PPA site and the Victorian Datestamps reference, $55 AUD per year, if anyone uses this, would it show the actual datestamps of things like these? I have quite a few from Victoria but collect widely all world stamps so want to be sure if this is worth me subscribing to,

Thanks all for your help

Any clues on this one? Google has thrown up absolutely nothing.

Nepean Outstation at top.

PE(N?)...... at bottom.

Penrith is on the Nepean River. Beyond that, I'm stuck.

Also, the PPA website is apparently dead. I know the business has been taken over, so hopefully the loss of this resource is temporary.

Chris

PPA not dead, spoke to David Wood yesterday, will be up & running again soon.

Australia Post Website comes up with this Post Office:

Nepean Business Centre
16-26 Jack Williams Drive, PENRITH, NSW, 2750

Not sure if this is your post office but it is the only Post Office in Penrith other than the one at Westfield Shopping Centre.

One of our local Stampboarders may come up with something while we wait for the return of PPA in a day or so.

Thank you. I didn't even know which state it came from, but I've been looking, and it's similar to ones I saw that were explained by McGooley. I did check PPA before it went offline and wondered why it only went up to 3,000 so 1218 it is. Allendale 2R?

Perhaps this was a temporary postal facility, before the Nepean Business Centre (16-26 Jack Williams Drive, Penrith) was created ?

I am sure I have seen a reference to, or postmark of, an 'outpost' mail facility, although I can find no reference to such item in my notes.

Hello,

Can anyone help me with this postmark? Unfortunately at the moment premierpostal is down, but I had a look when it was still on. I couldn`t find anything with "Red Ba......"!? I think it might be something like Redbank or Redbanks, but does anyone know which Redbank or Redbanks it could be, as in this postmark example the name seems to be in two words!?

There's a mark between the R & E.

Could it be "R'ED" - short for Registered?

I think Red Bank or Red Banks maybe on the money, but which one, PPA (it's back :D ) lists a few.

From PPA:

NSW Redbank PO 1/1/1859; renamed Pampoolah PO 9/6/1890.
Qld Redbank RO circa.1876; PO circa.1900.
SA Redbank PO 1/11/1868.
Vic Redbank (1) PO 23/3/1861; closed 1/7/1920.
Vic Redbank (2) PO 13/12/1920; closed 30/1/1981.
SA Redbanks

It would seem that RED BANK(S) & REDBANK(S) are interchangeable. :)

The mark that The Pom refers to I think is just a dirty mark.

Hello The Pom and Bigsaint.

Thank you very much for your help. I found a scan of a SA squared circle postmark which has "Red Banks" in two words. So maybe this one could be a SA postmark? The date should be 1914 or 1915 as the shade is a G10. Perhaps the SA specialists could help?

Hi josto, there is no Squared Circle cancel of the South Australian Red Banks, but there is a Type C3 which fits very nicely with your postmark..

Type C3 - 29mm
Known Usage - 4/8/1914 to 2?/6/1918
Rated 4R - 4 to 6 copies considered to exist

Reference - The Hand-held Postmarks of South Australia and the Northern Territory

Thanks Brad, if you can find anything out, that would be great.

It's interesting to note that, in general, local PO's seem to have a significant degree of autonomy in the design & content of their postmarkers. Very much different to the old days of more centralised control.

Nth for North rather than N.T.?

T.P.O. No. 1 North Coast Railway
PO 26/10/1900; closed c.1930.

Queensland.

Possibly NXW Peck 102 FE36 to AP43 "T.P.O. 1 NTH WEST" - See wiki Posts 66 & 71.

Oddly Peck 101 has no serif to base of 1 but has a dash between "1" & "N". 102 has a serif to the "1" but no dash between "1" & "N".
Looking for NSW cut-down relief date stamps, as seen in my avatar, to add to my collection.

Thanks everyone. I also got an email from someone who sadly, does not want to be involved on Stampboards, who also went for NTH WEST.

I am aware of a NSW cut-down relief postmark with a numeral 3 but hadn't seen numeral 1 before.

Recall seeing this statement somewhere?
It gets cold in Canada.
It helps with our memory. You've only provided half an answer.

There was also a '2'.

Mobbor. Your postmark is a worn copy of this one. Letter EYE. Not numeral 1.
