I didn't say it was a 1, but I thought it was. Now looking at your example I can see it is in fact an I- thanks.

Good stuff Terry!

I have a cover with a double strike of this date-stamp that was described in auction as a "II" - had to look at it a few times to decipher it.

Those partial/incomplete strikes can be very misleading.

mobbor, note that June is uncharacteristically depicted as 'JU'; since I have copies with 'JY" it can't be July.

Obviously no issues identifying where this is from, but does anyone know what the "ADV. 2" and "GR. 1" signify?

Chris,

I'll check my literature sources: BSAP & ACCNSW. I've seen something written regarding "ADVANCE" but cannot recall where.

Hello,

can anyone help me with this NSW postmark? Could it be Hombush Cattle Yards? PPA have some more NSW with Homebush, but I`d go with the Cattle Yards. PPA says it was only a TO 1/11/1882; closed 29/4/1976, does anyone know, if it is rated somehow?

Thank you very much

Another in the category of easy to read but can't find anything out about it.

I've found an online reference to the event, but nothing whatsoever about the accompanying commemorative postmark.

While it's not a major city, Moora isn't exactly the back of beyond, so I assume at least a reasonable number were cancelled with this postmarker.

Thanks Brad,
My edition of Pictormarks goes up to Dec 2004, so it turns out I could have looked it up! The stamp above is cancelled 2008, but it never occurred to me that it was an annual cancel that might have come into use earlier.

In relation to Sydney cancels, do you know how many different numbers were used?

Another one I can't de-cypher-
camp.jpg
It seems to be Warwick Farm(?) Camp. N.S.W. Oct. 1915. Whatever it is, it's not in my reversed listing of N.S.W. post office names. (Perhaps where the racecourse is?)

Kept searching and found this one.

This lot with a couple of fronts sold for about $250.

Condition and clarity is everything for postmarks.

Hello,

is this NSW postmark from Bankstown a common postmark or a scarcer one? I seems as if it is an altered postmark where the word in front of Bankstown has been removed. I saw there was North Bankstown, Upper Bankstown and Central Bankstown. Can anyone tell me which word was removed?

Thank you very much

Central Bankstown PO closed in 1918, so presumably one of the other two. (Oh -- unless they repurposed the Central Bankstown handstamp once that PO closed?)

Pampstamp,

Your postmark looks like a similar one to this Kyogle violet double ring cancel (from the Bruce collection).

The last letters before N.S.W on yours indicate it might be Ballina.
