Victoria 1/- Stamp Statute stamps - what is the value?

Post by fox1 »

This is the Blue/Blue Australian Victoria stamp statute fiscal with an unlisted in SG upright watermark - anyone know what it might be worth?

A used price is fine - there are no bends or folds in the stamp - a little rusting as the images show

Re: Uncatalogued stamps - What is their Value?

Post by lesbootman »

N.B. This post was submitted before one of the moderators amended the thread title

The thread title could have been a bit more specific.

I have no idea of a value on the stamp you have pictured.

In general stamps are uncatalogued for a variety of reasons:

i.e.

The stamp is genuine but outside the scope of a particular catalogue because it is too specialised a variety.

The stamp is genuine but the particular variety had never previously been recognised and brought to the attention of the catalogue editors. This could include watermark and surcharge varieties etc.

The stamp is not regarded as worthy of entry in the catalogue due to it not fulfilling their criteria - as being a stamp valid for postage and widely available at post offices (or stamp retailers).

In any event, whether a stamp is catalogued or not, it is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Catalogue values in this day and age don't always seem to be that relevant.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind!

Sigh. Apart from the obvious horizontal crease, I guess?

No-one has a clue what the watermark is from that scan. Much less whether it is sideways or upright. Needs to be photo'd in FLUID etc to show watermark - obviously. :!: :!:

Tks for your reply the heading i just took from the first generic one that came up as i have not posted a stamp before so there you go, lesson learned

I agree it appears from that photo that there is a fold in it but i assure you there is not -'there is a line - slightly exaggerated with the light in this photo i might add -but it is not a fold or bend as far as i can tell - the stamp does not "give'' across the line when slightly bent in either direction at all.

For the record, I don't just willy-nilly write things without using UV light, all waves - 10 x microscopes - yes both fluid, and electronic watermark checking and the very expensive, but superb German made electronic Perftronic perforation gauge reader (IMO easily the best piece of electronic stamp equipment there is - measures to small decimal points with great accuracy in a spilt second). That doesn't mean mistakes cannot be made, of course not, but....

Your point about not showing the watermark is fair one so point taken - conceded.

With the greatest respect, and I mean that sincerely, I think your reply could be done with more tact rather than unnecessary sarcasm intended or not.

"Sigh. Apart from the obvious horizontal crease, I guess?

I will re-post with some other images. But once again, thanks for your reply .

Barefoot catalogue value is GBP3.50 for watermark upright or sideways with perfs 11.5 x 12 or 12.5 x 13 used.
His prices are intended to represent typical retail prices for good used copies.
