Info sought re tiny German: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 6 Pf stamps

Post by MOOSE »

Hi guys and gals, I have two tiny German stamps that I cannot trace in my catalogues.

They are both valued at 6pfg but are different colours.

Their size makes me think they MAY be connected to the Kinderpost, as they are approx 20mm X 20mm. Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi MOOSE,

Look under 1945 Soviet Occupation of Germany: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. I am sorry but I can't provide SG numbers.
It does pay if you are humble and kind.

They are not listed in Stanley Gibbon's Stamps of the World.
But they are listed in Stanley Gibbon's Part 7 ( Germany ) catalogue.

Here is a copy of the relevant page from Michel 2015 Specialised catalogue.

As you can see there are a lot of different colours and papers for the 6Pf stamp.

Many thanks to all for the additional information. As they were bought in a small "cinderella" collection I didn't think to look in any "Country" catalogues.

This is an interesting and attractive area to collect.

Shades, flaws etc.

The genuinely used (cancelled) command much higher CV in general.

Here are a few scans of a few of my stamps to show the range of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern stamps , maybe you will run also into some of these in your collecting. There are not many more in the issues.

Maybe there is a need for a thread dealing with this area?? Anyone interested?

Here are some examples of Mi8,9 and 10 on cover (from my collection):

As far as a separate thread is concerned there is already the "umbrella" thread "The Russians in Germany Stamps 1945-49 (Soviet Zone)"
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=16899

but you could, of course, start one specifically on SBZ Regional Issues.

I have pages of plate faults of the first series. I think just about every stamp in the sheet had a different fault!

I was thinking of doing a thread on the plate faults so maybe we can do one just for these few stamps in greater detail. I know I have difficulty with Opal Green (May Green) and light blueish green or medium grey-green papers on the 6Pf. They have so many variations.

Obviously start a thread on these if you wish but afraid I could not contribute much as concentrate on covers. Perhaps one on the Regional Issues would have more general appeal?

I have just started bringing lots of these together in one album so I can sort them all out.

This is a few pages I have accumulated over the years. I'm sure between John, Gavin, you (with postal items) and I we could put together something pretty detailed and useful.

Darren, the ´greens` for sure are not easy and I strive juggle too to ID them .

Flaws abound though the printings are generally so poor that, as you say Darren, almost all stamps have something odd and flaws are not confined to the smaller stamps.

The stamp on letters are nice to see (OldDuffer1).

I will think on what might be most educative! Certainly the SG catalogue descriptions Stanley Gibbon's Part 7 Germany, are far easier to handle than the Michel so I might start there. This also applies to most German stamps including the SBZ issues in general.

Nice lot Darren.

I too have many so we might have a useful attack on them.

I have the PHILOTAX SBZ Plattenfehler Katalog that lists flaws.

Maybe we can get them all?

There are about 84 listed for the 6Pf at least!!!

Michel list 50 for the 6Pf alone. Probably decided that that was enough. They were printed 10 x 10 so sheets contained 100 stamps.

I don't know if I could handle the more complex list from a more specialised catalogue!!!

The advantage of the PHILOTAX SBZ Plattenfehler Katalog is that it shows the flaws.....

Also the CVs reflect more realistic pricing.

The Michel flaws are indicated too, though example is not a ´MIchel` flaw!
