Does anyone recognise these expert/dealer marks for Mauritius?

Post by blue-within-blue »

.
These photos show a one penny Post Paid and a two pence Sherwin, each with two signatures. The 1d lower signature appears to be Aime Brun, and the left-hand one on the Sherwin is Alberto Diena ; but I haven't been able to decipher or find the other two.

Thanks for any help.

PLEASE use the ''place inline'' button for attachments.

Both marks on top stamp appear crude, thick, clearly forged, and using the same water based ink pad, and are in totally the wrong positions for any BPP Expert.

The Diena is remotely possibly OK, but is not consistent at all with most signs from him I have seen, which is much wider and very florid, see below. Also for a used imperf it should be in the other corner on a rectangular stamp surely?

Can you show us the fronts?

If these are clear forgeries, this should shed some light on the nature of the marks.
Always on the lookout for Australian pre decimal First Day Covers.

Being a collector of Italian stamps, I see Alberto Diena signature quite often.

I think what you have is a forged signature of Diena.

It's the simplest Italian expert signature and cannot be trusted without a certificate.

The one shown by Glen is certainly original.

"PLEASE use the ''place inline'' button for attachments." ? Sorry but I don't understand what was wrong with my original post - when I view it, the photos are the right way up and stacked in the right order 1 / 2 . Are others seeing them differently?

No, not forgeries - genuine worn position 12 and Sherwin position 9. I apologise for the poor quality but they are not yet in my possession and I only have an auction scan to copy from.

Hi. The "Place Inline" button inserts an image exactly where you want it and, more importantly, without the ugly white border all around the image and the big word "ATTACHMENTS" at the top. See below.............

It's an idea too to insert "AddSpace" after each image, much nicer to look at.

Regarding the Kaufman provenance mark page linked above, is this the creepiest "expert/dealer" mark ever applied to a stamp?

Folks, we finally found something more offensive to put on the back of any stamp than Weitzman's high heel on the back of the 1c British Guiana!

Don't know why anyone thinks that's a dealer/expert mark?

Just make your own, even more offensive one. ;)

"Considered by most, if not all, to be garish and objectionable. Unquestionably devalues whatever it touches, unidentified handstamp / owner." The website is honest with their opinion. And they don't say it's a dealer/expert mark.
