According to my (lovely) wife "ferrovia" certainly means "railway" (literally "ironway").

It looks like there is something missing from row 2, above the M of 11M.

11M = 11 Mattina = 11 Morning.
Always on the lookout for Australian pre decimal First Day Covers.

The Pom is right - the year is missing.

Here is another postcard with a cancellation of this type (from Delcampe):

Firenze_Ferrovia.jpg

It was sent (cancelled) on October (10) 16, 1909.

Hello,
This is a very common squared circle cancel of Florence Railway. As it is already told, the year is missing, but we know that this kind of cancel was in use from 1890 throgh the beginning of 20th century. According to the stamps applied on the cover, the date could be between 1890 and 1896. But if you have got an arrival cancel on the back the problem is solved :D

This was the post office in the railway station. Italian TPO/RPO have different wording with at least names of two cities to show the route.
