I'll bite because I have a side collection of comic related stamps. Here's my offer: 1977 Sweden, Transportation, Michel #999-1003:

...or line engraved stamps perhaps?

I'll jump for these if I can assuming someone would like to relieve me of the Fireball set of stamps from Barbados SG1349-53, issued in 2010 to celebrate the Fireball Championships held in Carlisle Bay Barbados.

I was organizing my stamp desk, and noted that I still have the Swedish set...

So what's the status of this forward? ... Has Erik 'officially' taken up Jon's offer or not (he says he wants, but there's no pic)? If he has, then I've got to mail my stamps to Jon ASAP.

Thank you Kerailija. As far as I'm concerned, I don't see any issue in offering a duplicate of a set that has been used before on this thread.

So Erik, if you scan the duplicate set and make it available on this thread, then you have effectively kept things moving and then Kerailija can mail his stamps to Jon.

Cheers,
Joel.

Nick,

Right now the answer would be no, since Erik just posted his duplicate car set to lay claim to the Barbados set.

There are now 5 days to run during which someone must take Erik's set in order for him to receive Jon's Barbados set.

Joel.

That looks interesting Arnab.

I have a colleague (who is also a dear friend) who is Indian and is a devout follower of a Swami, but I'm a bit ignorant on the subject.

Is there only one Swami at a time or are there several Swamis representing different communities? Please forgive my ignorance on the subject. I don't mean to offend here. Just curious.

Cheers,
Joel.

Thanks Joel for your interest. i did not take offence about your comment. Let's take the discussion offline, as I think there's no point in taking this thread of its main course.

Well, since both Joel and Erik are interested, I will put in my 2 cents. It is really a vast topic to get into, so whatever I am mentioning here is just a summary.

The word 'Swami' as such means striving for the mastery over one's smaller self and habit patterns, renunciation of worldly pleasures etc. So, technically speaking there are many Swamis.

There are different lineages of swamis....one person becomes a swami, he has his/her own disciples who follow his path and his teachings....they can also become swamis if they can achieve the renunciation.

Coming to Swami Vivekananda, he was a devout follower of the teachings of Gurudev Ramakrishna and travelled round the world making people aware of his teachings and also about the tenets of Hinduism.

He later founded the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram which is headquartered at a place called Belur, near Kolkata.

Ramakrishna Ashram was subsequently set up in various other places in India, as well as around the world. Each branch is headed by a Swami and he has many disciples.

Whether one wants to become a Swami is not according to one's whims and fancies and one has to first believe and learn the teachings, then apply for 'diksha' under the Swami who is heading a branch of the Ramakrishna Ashram.

Taking a diksha doesn't necessarily mean one has to leave family and take a path of renunciation. A certain percentage of these followers take up this path of hardship and they are inducted into the Ramakrishna Ashram as junior members.

After that, they have to do various tasks at the Ashram and also carry on their learnings. And subsequently, they get elevated through the ranks to become a Swami.

Hope this explanation helped to some extent :)

As part of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary celebrations, India Post released the stamps and the sheetlet. Apart from that, various postal circles released separate memorabilia like official postcards and pictorial cancellations to commemorate the event.

Among these were the Postal circles of West Bengal(Kolkata) and Tamil Nadu.

Previously also, in the 1960's, another stamp was released by India Post on Swami Vivekananda.

Well Arnab, I showed the Swami minisheet to my friend. His Swami is not of the same affiliation, but he assures me Swami Vivekananda was very famous indeed and I saw his eyes light up when I told him I would get him this sheet, so here is my offer to try and get this sheet for him:

This is a Belgian set issued in 1961, also on a religious (and art) theme, of Belgian paintings showing the Mother and Child. It's MNH, and with the selvage and intense colors, dare I say quite nice looking:

On another note, I received from Neta the Israel mint offer which I had accepted in this thread. The envelope also contained some other flower stamps which we agreed offline....It was a pleasure receiving the stamps!!
