.
It does seem odd that first world countries cannot make their own mainstream stamps, but heaps of examples where that is not the case.

The US prints its own stamps, except for all the fake "Forever" stamps that mostly come from China.

Hello,

Lithuanian postal history is quite exciting.

The first Lithuanian stamps from 1918 were printed in Vilnius (Martynas Kukta printing office). Starting from 1919, most of them were printed in Kaunas (Lithuanian state printing office, J. Margolinas lithography, Aronštamas and Andrejevas lithography), and a smaller part in Berlin (H. S. Hermann printing office, Otto Elsner printing office) and London (Bradbury Wilkinson & Co).

After the restoration of independence in 1990, the first Lithuanian stamps were printed in the local printing office "Spindulys". Until 2012, the stamps were printed in Leipzig, Budapest, Tallinn, and Vienna. Starting from 2013, stamps are printed by "Garsų pasaulis" in Vilnius.

Regards,

Since 1972 nearly all Malta stamps have been printed locally by a company called Printex Ltd, except for the years 1999-2004 when stamps were printed in Germany by Bundesdruckerei. Apart from Maltese stamps, Printex have also printed stamps for the Vatican City and the SMOM.

Prior to 1972 most stamps were printed in the UK by De La Rue, Waterlow, Bradbury Wilkinson or Harrison, while overprints and the provisional 1925 postage dues were printed locally at the Government Printing Office.

From independence in 1964 to the selection of Printex in 1972, the post office also tried out several different foreign printers apart from those in the UK, such as the Government Printing Works (Rome, Italy), Enschedé, State Printing Works (Vienna, Austria), the Government Printer (Israel) and Format International Security Printers. Most of these only printed one or two sets of commemoratives.

As far as I know, all current Canadian stamps are printed within Canada.

Thanks for starting this thread. It will be interesting to see where other countries print their stamps. :)

Royal Mail's gravure stamps are printed near Wolverhampton, the litho ones in France, by the same company.

As I recall, way back in 1994-95, the 43c and 45c Canadian Flag stamps were printed in Australia by Leigh-Mardon Pty, Ltd.

Since the 90's UAE stamps are printed at

1. Cartor Security Printing, France
2. La Poste, France
3. Lowe Martin, Canada
4. Oriental Printing Press - Bahrain
5. Joh. Enschede Security Print - The Netherlands
6. Veb Wertapierdruckerei, Germany
7. OESD Printing House - Austria

This is interesting.... I was aware only of a couple printers... Will have a look all from 1973 till date and update later
