I think I've got pictures of a couple of boxes that have been yarnbombed like Fairyfoot's example in Cemaes Bay

Here's one from the opposite corner of wales, in Caldicot (Reference NP26 468)

Postbox NP26 468

The left hand plate is pretty normal

While the right hand one looks like a local production

On the back, there is an explanatory note from the local Knit & Natter group

Half-submerged post box in Fermoy, Ireland. Hope they left enough space to open the door. (With thanks to Lesbootman)

(Good to see An Post working on accessibility issues).

Here's a private green wall installed box (from just down the road here in Yorkshire...).

If there is a big rainbow on the envelope, you may have mis-read those initials.

Someone mentioned this a while ago- deactivated 'black' KG6 wall box in Whitby which forms part of a 'shelled house' which serves as a memorial to the 1914 German naval shelling of Whitby. Scarborough and Hartlepool were also shelled, causing some 80+ civilian deaths, and hundreds of injuries.

Today, I'd like to introduce you to what was postbox LL31 99.

This was taken end of last month, the box decommissioned. The wall it is in was the post office.

A new box appeared on the other side of the road (and it is nearer the post office counter in a little shop). The new box has been given the same postbox number.

The box is somewhat larger than most boxes found inserted in walls. Size wise it reminded me of the EiiR box within the Bay View shopping centre in Colwyn Bay.

Indeed, but it was suggested by someone that it was a wall box which had been mounted separately - without a wall! - whereas it would normally be mounted in a brick pillar at least. Sounds plausible, but I wasn't entirely convinced, largely because of the filial on top, which would have no purpose on a wall box. Plus it does look rather large.
So I'm none the wiser, really. Curious.

Nothing special about this box other than its beautiful location. It is in Kirkham, North Yorkshire, next to the River Derwent. The ruins of Kirkham Abbey can be seen across the river. It's a lovely spot.

The mysterious Llandudno box does not have a maker's mark.

The Llanrwst box has a GviR monogram and was cast by - "McDowall Steven & Co Ltd Falkirk"

The Colwyn Bay box has an EiiR monogram and was cast by - "Carron Company Stirlingshire"

Postbox in the Conwy Valley
Postbox in the Conwy Valley
After I wore my wrist out writing Postcrossing postcards on World Postcard Day, we went for a walk in Trefriw (to look at a nice waterfall), and saw this beauty. I can't recall the last postbox I saw with the sign for the post office (closed early on Friday).

My guess would be "The end of terrace was probably the local cornershop / post office".

When it was closed, and made into private housing, they walled off the land they were selling......

The wall is not the same brickwork as the adjacent wall,
.... but the terrace looks to have all been built "in one go".

It could well have been a corner shop, and even possibly a post office. As noted the wall in front of No 81 is of a later construction than the wall of No 79.

I don't recall it looking any different (besides cosmetic changes) so it would have been a while ago. It transpires that there was a railway station a few yards down Bradley Lane but that closed in 1970 (as did the railway line) and physical evidence of their former existence isn't obvious. Part of the former railway is now a path and cycle lane (which can be seen on Google Earth). I never knew that (until today)!

Yeah, sounds very plausible. Bought the house and land, except the bit the post box stands on.

This pair of boxes are to be found on the High Street (near Boots the Chemist) in Bangor, North Wales.

We spotted a similar pair elsewhere in the town and Bill has said he's seen similar ones during a recent visit to Liverpool.
