Australia Post price increases effective 6th September, 2021

Post by earlierthebetter »

.
I posted the following on a topic with a related subject but thought probably best to have it's own thread.

Parcel rates along with a whole bunch of other services are increasing on Sept 6.

Please click on the link for more info.

https://auspost.com.au/service-updates/current-updates/pricing-updates

"On 6 September 2021, Australia Post is making improvements and price changes to some services. These include:

Domestic letters
Domestic parcels
International letters
International parcels
Mail redirection services

Further detail about the upcoming changes can be found below. These changes will help us to maintain and improve our products and services, and continue to provide a sustainable service for all Australians."

.
Cheers

Thanks for that - it starts Monday, and as a fairly heavy mail user, not a word about these. Talk about STEALTH.

I send masses of domestic Registered sendings which are up in price. JUST time to buy some rolls at the old prices.

Ahoj everyone,

Would using Australia in the title have made it too long? I read it as short for Austrian.

Could September have been abbreviated instead?

Cheers,

I clicked on the link, and it said nothing about "improvement to services", just "price hikes".

I suppose it was necessary, to pay for Christinagate, the full investigation, the compensation, the additional bonuses etc (and so forth) ....... All service YOU foot the bill for, whilst incompetent politicians get off "Scott free".

No wonder AusPost is in such a mess.

A mess?

Seriously, the profit figures released recently were extraordinary

The online retail boom is flowing directly to their bottom line.

Easily number 1 in last km delivery in this country.

Not sure how other countries postal services are performing.

Yes.
It's business bulk mail gobbledygook.

A domestic rate increase must go through various approvals.

Sir, Ubobo.R.O.

Who the hell knows????

I bravely opened up the Information section for Domestic Letters and there are THOUSANDS of possibilities - depending on the weight of the letter AND the service that you require. :?

No doubt the price increase is because Australia Post must now hire PHD level mathematicians as their counter staff to ensure that they can evaluate the postage due for an item!? :P

Good luck to the rest of us.
Greg.

The standard domestic letter rates have not changed.

Here are some details hidden in the gobbledygook.

Registered Post labels - $4.30 to $4.45

Standard Parcel rates - Own Packaging -
Small - $9.15 to $9.30
Medium - $12.50 to $12.70
Large - $15.75 to $15.95
Extra large - $18.95 to $19.20

Express parcel services have also increased in price.

There are changes to International Postage as well.

If anybody wants a challenge, find the pricing update from the Australia Post main website page.
It took me a while.

Wouldn't you highlight a price change on the front page??!!

Cheers

I just told you!
It's for BUSINESS'.

Otherwise why are you not jumping for joy because the first step is now 99.5 cents and not $1.10?

Well no, it is for ALL the country who mail a Xmas gift or birthday present, or return anything to a retailer etc, etc. MILLIONS of mail sending transactions a week from the general public that have nothing to do with ''Business''.

And even ''Business'' have not been told - it comes into effect Monday and apart from here I have not read a WORD on this - my PO has not advised me. There is no new rates booklet.

Even very small parcels have increased - and all larger ones have. Registered Mail has increased etc, many things overseas have increased.

Agree that a link SHOULD be on the front page of their website.

This is price increase by total STEALTH, from a GOVERNMENT OWNED BODY.

The recent comments, questions and replies were very clearly about domestic mail, nothing else.
And somebody asked will their mail be more than $1.10 from Monday = answer.... no.

Not sure if I understand your question but this might answer it.

This only applies to Australian domestic/local mail and outbound mail from Australia to any international destination.

There is no new rates booklet.
After the last price changes in March 2021 my PO told me the rates booklets were not being printed any more.

Told me I could print it from the website or they would print one for me.

Not the same really.
Cheers

They always release a PDF that you can download, the last one is date 1 July 2021.
The app may also now have all this included, I'll have to check.

There are changes to International Postage as well.

https://auspost.com.au/
A major change in the international pricing:

Economy letters postage increased from up to 50g to up to 250g BUT with specification of size as
Up to 130 x 240 x 5mm.

The middle tier (originally 125g to 250g) was abolished

Thus if before you could send a large but light cover for $3.50 to the UK for example now you will need to pay $14.60 for the same item. Not very useful for those selling or buying larger items.

As suggested, here is the latest pricing guide (Sept 2021) from AP:

It's all in the app as well.

I like to use a RATES BOOK -- I never look up postal rates online.

Asked my PM for one yesterday and got told they always take weeks to arrive.

Yes that one they snuck thru totally under the radar.

The Postmaster opined yesterday this was the time bomb that will likely explode at Xmas card mailing time as they will NOT qualify for the overseas Greeting card rate.

A large size card that might weigh only 30 grams will now cost $14.60. A medium size photo of the kids, family, or new grandchild etc to Granny in Europe or USA will be the same $14.60.

Someone who has time should send this thread to Current Affair - they will flaw them alive over this gouge.

For ebay sellers a larger size FDC now costs $14.60 to mail. This $1 retail FDC sold on ebay etc, will now cost you $14.60 to mail overseas -

There must be some obtuse patented American "logic" I am missing here?

How does an ebay seller on this $1 cover above, spend less than $14.60 to get it to YOU?

I'm not a user of Aussie postal services, but looking at the pricelist, I COULD send an A4 item .......
(C4 envelope, 324 x 229mm max size, up to 20mm thick and 250g max,
using Economy Prepaid Airmail Envelopes, starting at $10,
($9.50 at the 10 rate, and $9 at the 50 rate).

Its still one heck of a price hike, though!

"Need to be upfront that 10 purchases will fit in the sending" .... Don't forget to mark it tax paid etc :D
