I have been following this thread and enjoying the cachets of the older covers. I probably have some to fill in the gaps, but that will be for another time.

I don't want to derail the thread, but I did have a couple questions:

1) regarding the following cover: Canada 15/10/1968 F.D.C. Dr. John Mc Crae Author of "In Flanders Field" Killed outside his aid post outside Ypres in 1918.

....is the small middle crossbar on the "E" at the end of McCrae missing, or can I just not see it in the scan?

2) if you have a long wave UV lamp, could you check: Canada 13/3/1968 F.D.C. 200th Anniversary of The Canadian Meteorological Service.
The stamp is issued in both dull paper and high-bright and the FDC's I've had are only dull. I am curious if any HB stamps were used on FDC. It may be hard to tell because this era of cover often had high fluorescence envelopes. Also on the same issue, there is a variety of the RED/BROWN printed over the Blue (most noticeable on the edge of the dish) as below:
can479iiibrnblulg.jpg

Again, I can't tell from the scan.

3) finally on the 6¢ Christmas stamp: Canada 9/10/1969 F.D.C. Christmas 1969 - look under the 2nd "A" in CANADA and see if there is a small arc between it and the "O" of Noel.

I apologize if this is outside the direction of your thread.

LibrarianC, in answer to your questions:-
1) The middle bar on the E is present.
2) do not have a long wave U/V Light.
3)from the cover, I cannot tell.

I am always happy to see someone is looking and happy to field questions, even if unable to give answers. Canada is one of my favourite collecting areas, as I spent the summer of 1969 at the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital( as an Orderly) and where I fell in love with C.F.L and the Tiger Cats and big Oscar Mosca.

London Ontario in 72-73 was where I became an intern at the Victoria Hospital in South Street And found a little P.O. on the walk back to our apartment. My collecting days restarted there and I have a long collection of mint stamps and F.D.C.s thereafter , so watch this space.

The above 2 posts were the first 2 sets of Canadian stamps I bought specifically to restart my stamp collecting. I had bought several issues from arrival in Ontario but only as postage home on letters to my mother and my wife. I had ceased to collect stamps in 1964, having discovered girls and the Beatles.

I arrived in Canada 7/7/1972, 2 days after graduation. The I.R.A. murdered my father and blew up our shop and residence on 21/7/1971, in Belfast. I lost everything. I married 5/8/1972, just after the funeral and got back to Canada 10/8/1972. My wife arrived in early October on the day of the first winter snow fall. What a welcome, snowed until the following April.

For Christmas, she bought me a stamp album and 1000 world used stamps. And so it restarted. When she complains re stamps being over 4 tables, I remind her that she created a monster!
